A runaway girl leads me to unexpected places as I come against a twisted cult. My control over my magic is frail and tenuous. My new trainer hates me and hopes I fail, so he can haul me off to the Guild Jail. My life sucks, because I made it this way. I need to solve the case, help the three of us gain independence, fix Jennica, and find Zander before he’s imprisoned or worse. My case draws me deeper into a dangerous new world. My magic, well-being, and soul are at risk from the intoxicating power. If I can’t hold on, I just might prove to be my father’s daughter. The world couldn’t survive it, but a part of me doesn’t care.
The troubles keep piling up for our heroine and this time she certainly has her hands full. Things will get easier eventually, right?
This is book two of the series. It works pretty well as a standalone, although you will be missing a bit of the background.
This is an urban fantasy story involving all the usual types of baddies. I found the story to be well written, easy to read and rather addictive. The setting is detailed and full of interesting details. Our characters are also well developed with more back story then is obvious at first glance. I love exploring the characters and setting as the story proceeds, and both get some nice development in this book. The plot is also excellent and kept me flipping pages to see what came next. Overall, a fun story and I look forward to the next book.
Highly recommended

The gang is back and things are a bit crazy. Between her personal and professional life, Marty seems to be in a hard spot. The mystery and secrets are again great and kept me entertained and reading to the end to see what would happen, who would show up next, and what craziness would be uncovered this time. Loved it. Add in the magic and the paranormal and I got a great story.
Magic Lies by C. C. Sommerly is an awesome story that I have read. This is book number two in this awesome series that I have been hooked on since the very beginning. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about thrillers, magic and fantasy.
