This is one of those series that gets people addicted to reading. Book #2 was just as magnificent as the first! Since the world was established so well in the first book, the second book really helped build the story. It starts off strong and exciting, and stays like that all the way through to the major cliff-hanger ending. It is so easy to forget that these characters are kids because they are dealing with a very tough situation, and are actually handling it fairly well. I found some of the greatest moments in this book are when you are reminded how vulnerable they really are. They are all being used as pawns to destroy each other, and it is difficult to see it happen, but the story is so intriguing and fascinating. There are a lot of new things revealed in this book. Many of the questions from book #1 are answered, and some information given in this book really had me wondering about what book #3 will bring. It ended in a way I didn't see coming at all. I can't believe how much happened in this book. It was just a matter of a few days, but characters, relationships, powers, and even worlds changed dramatically, and it all seems to be connected. I absolutely loved it, and I love that I am left wondering. I normally don't care for cliff-hangers, but I'm very excited about this one because I know Micah Caida has nothing but greatness waiting for us in the next book.

TIME RETURN by Micah Caida has time travel, science fiction, coming-of-age, first romance, and dystopian futuristic worlds all rolled up into one fast-paced rollercoaster package.

This is a fun, fast-paced series, but if you haven't read the first book, TIME TRAP, you need to do that first. Some series you can jump into - this one you can't.

Each chapter has a specific POV and voice, with each character having a wildly different agenda and interpretation of each situation. Even our three time travelers - Rayen, Gabby and Tony - have different reasons and different goals for returning to The Sphere.

As with the first book, most of the story is from Rayen's viewpoint as she is the catalyst for the story, but this time we have additional POVs and insights, including more chapters from Callan, the love interest who draws Rayen back into this dangerous world. Most of the intricate world-building was established in Book 1, so again, you really need to start at the beginning of the series to appreciate the twists and turns and complexity.

The scenes between Rayen and Callan were frustrating at times, as they deal with the overwhelming emotions of an impossible situation. Their reactions swing between hormonal teenagers to battle-hardened adults - which seems jarring until you remind yourself this is a Lord of the Flies kind of situation, where Callan has been forced to be the adult of the group for far too long, never having a chance at dating or falling in love like a normal teen would.

The ending of this installment leaves the reader dangling on an even larger cliff than the first book. Luckily, the third book is due out this summer (hopefully!) to conclude this thrill ride.

February 2014:

Wow!!!!! Can't wait for book 3 this summer!!!!

One thing that may turn off some readers is so much mushy-gushy teen attraction - thought I would warn you. A few times I thought it might be overkill but realized it was also realistic & has a lot to do with how things play out...

So, looking for fast-paced adventure book, you've got it here. Time travel, magic, teens, corrupt government, and some romance...

Few times, I thought about "Lord of the Flies," but only as kids are running the place on the sphere (which you already know from book 1)

October 2018:
Yeah, book 3 is here. Can’t just end like this!!!

Time Return by Micah Caida is the 2nd book in her Red Moon series. Having read the first book, I was prepared for this adventure, as I now knew this world and the majority of the characters. I love the start of the book description, which perfectly says it all when starting this book.

Her Time. His Time. No Time

Rayen promised to return, Gabby must return, and Tony can’t return.

When we left off in Time Trap, Rayen, Gabby and Tony were back in their own time. The three of them have become so much closer and in sync with each other. With Gabby having adverse reactions, they need to go back, and the three of them will work together to make it happen.

Returning to the Red Moon sphere (in the future), they arrive to much destruction, though only a few days passed. The situation is dire, and Rayen is ready and willing to help Callan fight off the Tecknati enemies, to save the children and find a way for them all to go home. Though throughout this book, this does not look possible. I will not give spoilers, as it is impossible to tell too much, without being too revealing

We get to see the characters we got to know in Time Trap, especially Callan, Mathias, V’ru, Jaxxson , and the two I hated (Zilya and Etoi), as well as two new great characters, Kaz and Kenja. I loved how the friendship of Rayen, Gabby and Tony evolved, as well as Callan and Rayen’s slow build romance. This is young adult/children, so there is not much romance other than the strong feelings between them.

This was such an exciting adventure, lots of action, as well as learning more details about the upcoming prophecy, which will decide their future. I was totally hooked by the fast start, and had to finish the book in one day. What I found amazing is that Micah Caida has been able to convince us that these children, especially the main characters (11-17), are strong fierce survivalists, capable of doing the things we watch them do. We learn to care about them and root for them all the way. Rayden is a wonderful heroine, whose powers keep growing, and somehow, someway, she is going to be the one piece that will save them, when this trilogy ends. At least I hope so. I also loved Gabby, who has grown so much since this series started, which technically is only a few days or so. Another plus for Caida is how she has taken three characters (Rayen, Gabby & Tony), so very different, and allowed them to develop a bonding and strong friendship.

Time Return is as story of survival, time travel, futuristic, friendship, villians, battles, sci fi, prophecy and a nice simple romance. This is not just a story for young adults, as it is a very exciting story for all ages. I cannot wait for the final story in this trilogy, Time Lock.

I have read the first book and it flows well in to the second. Rayen, Tony and Gabby make their journey into the Sphere again. Will they survive this second trip?
Will Rayen find where she belongs and where she comes from? Will Gabby make sense of these changes coming over her? WIll Tony be able to take care of his little brother? Will they be able to help those that live in the Sphere to also leave some day?
This is a great read for young adults and adults. There is action and adventure to keep you reading til the end..Can't wait to read the next book in this awesome trilogy.

I read Time Trap (book 1) and was hooked. In Time Return - we have Gabby, tony and Rayan - returning to the sphere - and kicking butt - and helping where they can. I don't want to add any spoilers, but this book is full of action and crazy schemes.

I would suggest you read Time Trap before you indulge in Time Return as they are sequential for the story line.

I am really looking forward to the last book in this trilogy. But I will probably be sad when it is all over.

Amazing second installment

This story just keeps getting better. The characters developed even further and I love that in a book... where the author doesn’t just introduce them and say “good enough” but keeps them evolving.

In addition I love the slow progression of the romance. It’s not overdone with too much too soon but takes a nice process. And even with the secondary characters, which I liked because a lot of the time authors forget to let their secondary characters shine too.

The pacing was great and the author tells a compelling story. I’m very much looking forward to the finale.

I read the first book and while I struggled with the plot and characters, I thought the concept was interesting. I figured I would try the free second book... Boom, teenage angst right out of the gate! And for some reason there was enough that happened in the time gone that jumped the character's emotional development forward like a month but it had been only 3to4 days... I couldn't continue.

This book takes you and an intergalactic ride. Well thought out and unique ideas in writing. The characters were fleshed out and (thankfully) the editing was of a very high caliber. Enjoyed going along for the ride, even if they were mostly teenagers, it was an enjoyable read.

WOW!

Some sequels never match up to the hype of the original, but this was not the case for this book! Even more action than Part 1 and lots more plot twists! A great read!

***NOTE: This review may contain spoilers for the first book in the series.***

Time Return is an exciting sequel to Time Trap! Rayen, Gabby and Tony return to the Sphere, hoping to help the MystiK children return home. But when they get there, they find that the MystiK's village has been destroyed. Rayen wants nothing more than to be back with Callan for as long as she can and to help him and his people return home. But Callan fears that Rayen's attachment to him will put her in danger - plus, he's torn between his connection to Rayen and his duty to his people. He pulls away from her, but can he bear to lose her?

The negatives:

Tony and Hannah.
There was a romance that developed between Tony and Hannah, but it developed very quickly - in the space of one conversation. Granted, since the books in this series all technically take place over just a few days, the romances ALL happened quickly. Still, we got to see a relationship develop between the other couples so they didn't feel like instalove. Tony and Hannah weren't together much at all. So, I wasn't particularly invested in these two, and the romance really felt like a convenient plot device. Luckily, Hannah and Tony's romance wasn't incredibly central to the book, so it didn't ruin anything for me.

Kaz.
There was a bit of a love triangle introduced in the form of Callan's best friend Kaz. Kaz was definitely interested in Rayen from the very beginning. Again, this felt just a little bit like a plot device to me - something to increase the tension between Callan and Rayen, rather than a real attraction between Kaz and Rayen.

What I loved:

Callan and Rayen.
The tension between Callan and Rayen was high in this book. Both Callan and Rayen wanted to protect each other - in Callan's mind, the best thing he could do for Rayen was to convince her to go home. But Rayen would not give up until she'd helped Callan and the MystiK children return home - especially now that she knew that Callan would die a horrible death if he was still on the Sphere on this eighteenth birthday. So, while Callan and Rayen both wanted nothing more than to be together, Callan kept pushing Rayen away. The push and pull between these two felt realistic, even though I desperately wanted them to get past all of the issues that kept them apart and realize they were meant to be together!

The TecKnati/MystiK conflict.
The conflict between the TecKnati and the MystiKs really heated up in Time Return. When Tony, Gabby and Rayen got to the Sphere, they found that the TecKnati had attacked and things were even more dangerous than when they left. The TecKnati were no longer satisfied with simply hiding the MystiK children away. They were feeling threatened by the Damian Prophecy and felt that the threat had to be eliminated ...

The mysteries.
We learned a bit more about the prophecy and how Callan was central to it, but there were still plenty of mysteries to be unfolded when the book ended. The biggest mystery is still who is Rayen really and why was she sent to the past? We get some tidbits of information in this book, but we have to wait for book three to really get answers!

So, overall, this was a really great second book in the trilogy. The book ended on a major cliffhanger, but luckily book #3 was just recently released! I give this one 4/5 stars.

Though the main characters are all teenagers in The Red Moon trilogy, my adult mind easily became riveted in the many tricky dilemmas this spirited trio faced. From dire predicaments to challenging emotional issues, these three are still making difficult decisions in the second book and often there is not a satisfying choice. The writing duo known as Micah Caida has truly created a most unusual storyline plus unique characters, and outcomes are never assured until ever single second plays out. TIME RETURN is notable science fiction with lots of unexpected twists.

After waking up with no memory of her past, Rayen was taken to a school where many students study varied subjects and even live. Most of those at the school think of her as rather strange, but she had managed to make friends with two other teenagers. By chance, the three somehow traveled through time to a place known as the Red Moon sphere, a world in their future. Even though they managed to make it back to the present, Rayen has vowed to return and help the MystiKs, a group made up of young children and teenagers under the age of eighteen. They are relentlessly persecuted by another group, one which would like for every MystiK to be annihilated.

Rayen hopes the special powers she possesses will help once again when she revisits to the Red Moon sphere. She knows the place contains countless mysterious dangers, but she does not plan on letting the leader of the group down. Callan came to mean much to her in a short time, and there is no way Rayen will let him fight an enemy without her assistance. However, upon arriving back on the sphere, she discovers much destruction took place while she was gone and Callan’s actions are very confusing. While some believe her presence brings even more threats to the MystiKs, there is no way Rayen will leave the vulnerable group unless forced.

There are so many variables affecting the life of Rayen, regardless of what time period she is living in. With so much of her memory missing, she often does not know what path to follow and can only hope any responses are right. Although she is only a teenager, many of the decisions she has to make are extremely difficult yet they must be made. With so many lives affected by whatever she decides, I felt her unease over what to do on so many occasions. The ordeals that just keep coming her way could be disastrous if Rayen chooses incorrectly, and her anxiety is clearly obvious from her inner thoughts to her actions.

The relationship Rayen has with her two friends from school is just like a normal teenager at times. Disagreements occur and minds must be changed, yet their friendship endures throughout it all. The connection between Rayen and Callan is also comparable to two dating teens sometimes. Even though most young people would not have to make such drastic choices, they do have to think about matters that involve other individuals along with their own desires. The peril in the story is very real, and I often held my breath until a scene concluded. With its dramatic ending, the third book in the series looks to be even more intense. Micah Caida has crafted a notable science fiction series with believable characters and a rewarding plot. TIME RETURN has one risk-taking adventure after another and is continuously entertaining.

While I liked the first installment in this series, I think I liked this sequel better. It wasn't as confusing, since we'd already been introduced to all the sci-fi aspects of it in the previous book. And even though the main character was still suffering from her initial amnesia, she knew exactly what was going on for the present-time, so the reader wasn't left feeling her confusion.

In this sequel, the trio travel to the other world again, only to find that everything has changed within the short time they've been gone. While we do get other character's perspectives here and there, this book focuses mainly on Rayen's point of view (and with Callan, her love interest). I applaud the author here for not creating a true love triangle. There is a flirty new character introduced, and he is very likeable, but Rayen makes it clear that her only choice is Callan. Personally, I get annoyed in reading love triangles in other books, because the main character is shown to be torn between the two options and "in love" with both guys. Here, that is not the case.

I like even more that the romance angle is not at the forefront of the story. It is in the background, simmering, but the main plot is non-stop action and danger at every turn of the page. Looking forward to reading the 3rd book, as it seems we'll be getting some answers about Rayan's background.

Wow!

Time Trap was a very very enjoyable book . However Time Lock had me on the edge of my seat! It gets better and better!! Rayen can't win for losing. Callan is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Gabby is struggling with the realization of who and what she really is and poor Tony is just along for the ride . Coming back to the school in Albuquerque and realizing they had to return to the sphere was so intense. Saving Gabby from being sterilized, Tony wrestling with needing to help his brother yet being loyal to his two new best friends, Rayen with her heart in shreds wanting to return to Callan but hating to put her only friends in danger... it goes round and round . Meanwhile back in the sphere things have gone from bad to much much worse . Callan is again faced with an impossible choice but one he has to make nonetheless. Rayen wants to help him but is torn by her own heart and need to protect others. Also, I'm not sure which side of the fence Kaz is really on. We will find out in Time Lock I'm sure .
What I thought was just gonna be a quick simple 'mind cleanser' before I dive back into my usual genre has turned out to be a wonderful adventure I'm so glad I didn't miss . Kudos to the author Micah Caida. You're doing a masterful job so keep it up!!

I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. I was a bit confused and had to reread several parts in the beginning, but after awhile, caught on and followed along closely. The characters were fitting, and the situation was very modern, but the discussion about why the "natives" were in this place and who put them there, lost me. It just was too technical. I actually skipped a lot of that part because it was just too difficult to understand. I am looking forward to reading more though, as long as it stays interesting.

I LOVE this series. The first one was part of a ten pack special and I was like what did I get this time, but gosh once I started I was hooked and always keep an eye out for the next one coming out. Time to read that one :)

The characters are well developed and the story line is great. It is rather different from anything I have read to date but it eats easily and sadly quicker than you know are you done with it. I absolutely love the main character and feel with her at every step along the way.

Keep them coming.

Book two continues the saga of Rayen's unusual life, as she battles for answers from the past, present and future, in addition to surviving strange worlds and keeping a step ahead of those who have a need for power.

I love the way the characters are developed, the changing perspectives, the suspense and the mystery.

It's difficult to say too much so as not to give spoilers, however, I will say that this tale is very well written, with a great plot and a fascinating look into a new fantasy world.

Highly recommended.

The battery on my reader needs replacing and I kept having to wait for it to recharge so I could continue reading. It was worth waiting and definitely a YA book, which didn't keep me from enjoying it. I will go on to the next book in hopes that they kick '_ _ tt' of those that feel they should be able to control the lives of those they disagree with. Sounds a bit like some modern day extremists, doesn't it?

I received this one in the first read contest. I really like this one! I was lost at times because I have not read the first one but will definitely read it now. Fast pace and so very easy to read I could not put this one down!
