I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

Some guy writes a collection of essays criticizing the American political system, the Mormon Church, and Microsoft. Some of the criticisms make sense. Some don't. All are very angry.

If that's your kind of thing, it's pretty good reading.

Disclaimer: I received this book as part of GoodReads' First Reads program.

Corruptocracy is a collection of rants by the author, a middle aged computer programmer with an axe to grind. The original title was "Corruptocracy and Other Bullshit", but he changed it due to Google constraints. The first chapter rails against the US government and how it currently works. The author provides his solution to the problem. The "other bullshit" consists of tirades against a variety of issues, a large portion of which are against the malignant software monster known as Microsoft. The book was a fun, easy and quick read, and I mostly agree with his point of view. There are a few spelling issues, like the ubiquitous use of "advise" when "advice" is needed, and a couple of mentions of "repel" when "rappel" was meant, but those are minor. I'd recommend it as a light read.

For the next rewrite and title change I suggest renaming it to "My little book of rants". Given that the author is strongly against false advertisement, this would bring the title more in line with its content. While some of the rants have some core of truth to them that I was able to relate to, the solutions described as remedy for the perceived injustices are rather simplistic and one dimensional. I don't think you'll learn anything new about the world reading the book, but might feel good about the fact that others also struggle with the B.S. they encounter. But if you have something better to do with your time than reading this book, by all means do it.

This is clearly an author filled with intense anger over various topics. Unfortunately, his few valid points are overshadowed by his ranting. I would suggest some deep breathing and moving his focus to something more positive. On the plus side, he can write and this is an easy book to read, so perhaps there'll be something different in his future books.
I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.

Our failing government

A brief overview of the many ways our government sells us out for their own personal gain. This also looks at how big companies have the government on their payroll to ensure they stay rich and powerful while the rest of us go without.
