[Addison True is ONE BOOK divided into TWO VOLUMES due to its length. It is NOT a single volume plus a sequel. Please see reviews for Volume 2 that reflect the opinions of those who had read the whole book.] Addison True is an old school, rollicking western adventure ride--a sweeping, epic American saga. The historical novel follows the title character, a quintessential American hero, from Addy’s arrival in Gold Rush San Francisco in 1849, age 18, to guiding a winter-trapped wagon train down the back side of the Sierra, pioneering a stagecoach route through Apache territory, getting caught in the 1855 Plains war, serving as sheriff of Leavenworth during “bloody Kansas” days, Pony Express station keeper in Nebraska territory, to the Civil War, where he is a scout-turned-spy for Grant at Vicksburg, and he and a slave escape north from Mississippi to Ohio. There is a concluding chapter back on the Plains. Addison True comes highly "Just finished reading Addison True and loved it. I think you may have finally captured the elusive Great American Novel once and for all. It’s Herman Melville meets Larry McMurtry. Addy is a true western hero who reflects the zeitgeist—best and worst—of the American experience in the mid-1800s. His historically accurate experiences are told in page-turning fiction to document and foreshadow the great events and issues of his time. All told, Craig, I think you have a masterpiece here. It's extremely well written and documented, but more importantly, it's great entertainment!" Ron K., St. Louis, MO "Addison True is a compelling page turner. The action is richly described but in a vernacular that intensifies as the scenes unfold, drawing the reader into the tale. I didn’t want to see it end but couldn’t wait to finish it. The story is full of adventure after adventure within character stories that are very real...all wrapped in a love story. It is a quick read but doesn’t skimp on detailing the times and places. I felt like I was there and learning along the way. This book will appeal to the adventure reader, action reader, and history buff. I’m ready to read another 1000 pages!" John W. Louisville, KY
This is several books bundled that are basically one long book. Follow the adventures of Addison True from the time he is just a boy. Lots of adventure in each book. The bad guys and Indians always come up short. He and Emma make a great team. But there is no climax leading up to a conclusion. Imagine that might come in Volume 2
If a movie is not made from this story the industry is nuts. I loved the hero and all the other player's . The violence was not over done, no sex scenes added because not needed to make an excellent movie excelent. I can hardly wait to read volumes 2. Thank for this tail in the mist of a world that seems to have forgotten how to fight for truth and justice.
I didn’t know when I started reading this western saga that I’d be staying up late every night for a week. Following Addy in this western saga was like having a lifetime of frontier adventures in one book. I must recover before reading the next book in the series.
I'm so glad I stumbled across this book. I loved the way it was presented. The words. I've read so many books they soon all sound the same. This is unique and stands out. The age old story of lies and betrayal shown in a real life way. I can't complement the author enough. I'm starting the next one tonight.
Great western reading. Couldn't put it down. The author pulls the reader into into the story. Having lived in the areas mentioned , my minds eye, takes me, the reader, to rivers, forts, plains, and towns. I recommend this book for the Western fan.
The kind of story the kept me turning me the pages in anticipation of what came next. The book is a mix of history and fantasy with an impossibly heroic characters. Thoroughly enjoyable book.
This book held me spellbound!! Non-stop action, betrayal, love and more!! I feel as though I know the characters personally. Starting the 2nd volume as soon as I can download it!!
I loved the storytelling syntax and method of furthering the plots. The characters are real and true. The Indian lore was informative and from a point of view not often presented. I love books with feeling and adventure. I was transported and enjoyed the ride.
A fun read where the main character, whose name makes up the title, is the hero of every situation. I haven’t read many westerns, I think Lonesome Dove was the last one and my favorite. I will eventually read the next volume as it became soap opera-ish: will he ever get the girl he wants?
Thrill a minute too tame for you? Well this one is a thrill a second! I TRUEly could not put it down. I'm now on the second volume and it is measuring up to the first.
I almost NEVER give 5 star reviews but this deserved one. One of my favorite reads all year. It was not only highly entertaining but well researched in all areas the author wrote about. Right now my husband is enjoying it on audiobook. Highly recommend!
