Excellent book. I made wizzarding hats and they were delicious. The recipe was easy to follow. There were many other recipes I wanted to try but haven’t tried them yet.

A beautiful book. I brought it for my nephew's birthday - he is turning 7 and in the last year has watched all the films and is now getting into the books. He loves baking so this book is perfect. The only trouble is that it is definitely not meant for children. He will probably be able to appreciate it more when he is older, but he can give the recipes a go.
A lot of bread, pastry, cake, and crackers that look like a major PITA to make that kids won’t want to eat… Unless this generation digs vegan chocolate frosting and sweet potato muffins.
Best HP cookbook I have bought so far. not only is it high quality with stunning pictures and great describtions, but what i love most is that at almost every recipe it gives a veggie/vegan option. I always "veganise" recipes myself, but it is great not having to do that as the book already did it for me :)
When I saw this book I was extremely excited to read it. I've always been a Harry Potter fan and have been fascinated with the food from the universe. But what left me not liking this book was just how it was suited more towards vegetarians and vegans. It's a good book overall and has some neat ideas so I will give it a four star even though it's more like a 3.5 for me.
Celkom pekne ilustrovana kniha receptov vo svete harryho Pottera....je tam torra, ktoru dostal od Hagrida.....kniha priser, lietajuce kluce a svoj recept si ziskal aj Dobby
Oh, I'm sorry, you've confused me with a Great British Bake Off contestant. I am complimented, but mostly sad because I can't actually make any of these things.
Overall, this is more a book to look at than cook from. Most of the recipes are more labor-intensive than the usual cookie or pie recipe. All that work for them to be admired and then eaten in one bite? Eh, I'll pass.
Beautiful photos but everything is a lot of work to actually make. Surprised there were no butterbeer recipes or sweet pumpkin items. Would have enjoyed more if it actually had recipes from Wizarding World food places (pumpkin juice, cauldron cakes, Fishy Ale) or the books, instead of things just made to look cute.
This book is exactly what it says it is! The cover does a great job of showing a lower effort recipe and a higher effort recipe. This would be a great coffee table book - excellent photos.
Obviously, a lot of the Harry Potter theme comes from your time to decorate and arrange, and the recipes tend to be heavy on presentation and require steady hands.. However, Farrow includes a variety of baking recipes, with varying levels of effort or skill required that may tempt that Harry Potter fan in your life to try something new. Templates are included for the more decoration-specific recipes. Several recipes have no more decoration required than rolling out dough in a wand or broomstick shape... But they do tend to be bread or crackers. Which, really, is true of presentation dishes in general.
I appreciated the variety in both taste / flavoring and techniques. There are savory and sweet recipes. The ingredients seem to go together well flavor-wise, but I found myself making edits to the bread (the type of recipe I'm most comfortable with) to get the consistency/ texture I like.
Got this out of the library, and plan to get it again for a time I plan to spend way more time than the recipes claim to try to make something worth *presenting*.
I haven't baked anything out of it yet, but I read all the recipes in order to pick some out. I'm very excited to try some of them! They have difficulty ratings that go from easy to hard so you can decide how much work you want to put into it, and there are templates in the back to help with the recipes that otherwise would require some drawing skills. The recipes are very detailed so it doesn't assume any knowledge beforehand. When flipping through the book in the store, I didn't think it was made for children, but there's a page in the beginning that's about washing your hands and asking an adult for help that seems to have been added in to make it okay for children to use. Nothing else about the book suggests it's for children, and definitely not the skill level. It will stretch the adult baker's skills when doing the hard ones. I've picked some out to do for Halloween, but that Hogwarts Gingerbread Castle might be too hard to accomplish well. It's a beast!
I actually tried three recipes in the book. The first was the chicken pie, which I only borrowed the idea of it while using other better and easier recipes to assemble. The second was the lightning-scar bread. The “scar” was barely seen even I cut the dough after the last proof (the book indicates to cut before). The third and last was the chessboard granola bars — it fell apart… This baking book is more for the eyes than for the mouth. Most of the bread in the book look dry and dense. Cakes, too sweet and too much work. Cookies, the one I tried was a disaster. I stopped there. Thank goodness it’s a library copy.
This super sweet book is filled with recipes from the Harry Potter films that are super fun to make! I love that it also has quotes and fun facts from the series. It even has recipes that are great for vegetarians, vegans, and those on a gluten-free diet. All of them taste super yummy for anyone! There are templates in the back of the book to cut out and use as stencils for the cookies and other shaped desserts. This is one of my favorite *dessert books, (*what I call cookbooks that only have desserts 😂) and I hope you like it as much as I do! Thank you for reading! As cliche as it may sound, this baking book is absolutely magical! Filled with fun recipes like Devil's Snare Pretzels, "Happy Birthdae Harry" Cake, and Mandrake Bread, you'll be able to find a recipe at your level. Love the pictures, tips, and movie trivia throughout. Good luck with the Hogwarts Gingerbread House! Nice to finally see a Harry Potter-themed cookbook without the typical butter beer and pumpkin pasties.
We're big HP fans but not impressed with this cookbook. Our daughter (9) wanted to make many of the recipes but even with a chef Dad, most seemed very labor intensive. They decided on the Sorting Hats. It has many, many steps. Dad thought the recipes weren't actually written by someone with baking experience. For example, instead of saying to cream the butter and sugar together, it said mix all ingredients at once ... as I barely cook, I don't know if this is a big deal but he says it is! The recipes were cute. We may attempt one more recipe before returning it to the library.
Everything looks appetizing and every recipe has a gorgeous photo. The little movie facts, however, read like they're addressed to kindergarteners...and good luck getting a kid that age to pay attention long enough to assemble, say, the gingerbread Hogwarts, or the equally fiddly sourdough snake. These recipes are for the Harry Potter generation with the patience to knead and decorate. And the results should be awesome.
It’s certainly a beautiful book. Brightly colored, lots of pictures. It has fun facts from the film. I’m not sure what makes this official versus unofficial, which I had before. The writing is geared toward children, who I imagine wouldn’t be the ones reading this anyway. Many of the recipes are gluten free or vegan. The first half is savory, and the second half is sweet. Of the 40+ recipes, there are only 6 I’m interested in making 😒
If you love Harry Potter and love to bake, this is the perfect book for you. Everything looks beautiful and magical - why did I never think of making breadsticks shaped like wands! I love that there are many vegan and vegetarian recipes and that the other recipes had tips how to make a veggie version of them as well.
This recipe book is pure gold for Harry Potter fans!! I can’t wait to try a few recipes for our little Halloween party this year! There are lots of savoury options (which I really like). The sweet recipes need a lot of labour to execute so it looks pretty - but I like the challenge to make it look magical! So it did not bother me as much as some of the previous commenters.
There are so many amazing recipes in this book! And, I love that the author took the time to add in tips, tricks and to address and provide alternatives to ingredients for those with food allergies or special diets! I, honestly, can't wait to make all of these recipes and I'm so thankful this book included more than just sweets that one could bake.
A lot of recipes for breads and crackers and scones that seem dry and unappetizing. Several of the recipes are gluten-free or vegan, which is a plus if you're looking for that.
We did make the Salazar Slytherin Sourdough Snake, which was fun and tasty....but definitely takes patience as it takes about 30 hours to complete.
These are definitely adult-level expertise recipes.
Any HP fan would love this book as part of a collection. The recipes all look really pretty but seem to require a lot of time and more than a bit of baking knowledge and skill. This would be really good for a HO fan who already knows how to bake sweet and savory things.
This is a great book for all HP fans - there are savory and sweet recipes. Each recipe has a difficulty rating so bakers of all talents and skills will find something fun to make. This is the perfect book for your next HP themed event.
Very interesting collection of Harry Potter themed confections. Not very many things I would make, as I am not so artistically gifted, but it's definitely a unique read for anyone looking to expand their culinary talents.
There was a inspiring variety of different recipes. There was a fitting one for everyone as there were both easy and more demanding recipes and also recipes for special diets. I tried a few recipes and they worked out well.
