Iran has the Bomb! And the zealots plan to use it- for international blackmail and for mass murder.
The United States government cannot intervene without committing an act of war. But Nile Barrabas and his SOBs are not the least bit shy when it comes to acts of war...
Their mission: to penetrate forbidden territory, search out and destroy the heavily defended weapons complex. And make it all look like an accident.
"Jack Hild" is a pseudonym shared by multiple authors ghostwriting the Soldiers of Barrabas (SOBs) series of action-adventure novels. The most prolific of these authors were Robin Hardy and Alan Philipson.
Despite Hild's output being the work of several authors, the novelist Warren Murphy provided a cover endorsement saying "Jack Hild is simply the best and gutsiest action writer around today."
In backmatter to some of the SOBs books, the publishers Gold Eagle jokingly stated Hild's "whereabouts are unknown. No one associated with Gold Eagle Books has ever seen Jack, in person or in a photograph... If you should ever meet Jack Hild... let us know."
This was so much better than the first one in my opinion. These men's adventure paperbacks read just like an 80's action movie. Fun and over the top. If you liked the 1st one you will like this one as well!
The second novel in the series improves a lot from the first. We see the team taking on the Iranian nuclear program and every member of the team knows some or all may not come back. The mission is far more dangerous than the first which sees the team deep in enemy territory.
Nile Barrabas becomes a deeper more interesting character in the book and the other characters each get some depth added to them.
Closer to a 3.5, is a solid squad based military action novel of a bunch of mercenaries who take on a job to take out some Iranian nukes. Oh and by the way it has to look like an accident too... The characters are all sketched out fairly well though quickly. Also the action is well written with nice strategy involved.
Recommended its what you want in mindless military like action. My first in this series but wont be my last.
**½. Marred by some dreadful prose styling that falls between laughable and cringeworthy; it's regrettable that that is the thing that sticks in the memory, because most of the book is very readable. A couple of remarkable scenes. Plot cracks along and largely delivers what it promises.
