A Heartfelt Trail of Love and War

Rate this book
A bond forced by conflict, a love meant to last forever

Jane Tinney follows her father and brother wherever their railroad empire takes them. Oppressed by both, but knowing no other way to live, Jane follows suit, apathetic to the happenings around her father’s aggressive expansion of the railroad tracks, hoping that one day she will meet the man of her dreams.

Marlon Rinehart is a widower rancher who left his lifestyle behind and has become a respected buffalo hunter in Kansas. In close proximity to the local tribes, Marlon is part of the natural equilibrium, making a decent living while also pushing back the ghosts of his past from haunting him.

When Jane unceremoniously walks into the saloon of the new town that she has arrived in, she gets Marlon’s interest piqued. A lady of such standing should never mingle with people like Marlon. Little did both know that a fatal attraction will grow that will shake the very foundations of their lives. In a clash of different cultures, every piece of the puzzle plays a role.

As their origins lead them to conflict and hidden motivations reveal themselves, can a forbidden love withstand it all?

A Heartfelt Trail of Love and War kept me interested from the first page to the last. There were lovable and likable characters as well as those that bullied their way through life and were abhorred. There were a lot of interactions between the settlers and the Cheyenne and most of it was not good.
Jane and Marlon have chemistry and an attraction the first time they meet in the small town in Kansas where she has just moved with her wealthy father and brother from Massachusetts. They are involved in the railroad expansion which is not sitting well with the Cheyenne or with Marlon.

Marlon's a widower whose wife was killed and he gave up his life as a rancher to become a buffalo hunter and work with the Cheyenne. He's like a brother to them and they listen to what he says about the settlers and the railroad. He and Jane have a lot of interactions, outings and conversations. We learn about the characters a little at a time and they have a depth to them. There is a richness to the story with the scenic descriptions, the camp of the Cheyenne and even the buffalo.

The story twists and turns with multiple story lines and interactions between the railroad workers, Jane's brother Phillip and the Cheyenne. Her father tries to keep the peace and her brother on a tight leash given his rashness and drinking habits. But he tries to keep Jane on a much tighter one but that's not working out too well when she becomes very outspoken. It doesn't help that she continually antagonizes her father and brother. There are injuries and death along with family, friends, the Cheyenne, the railroad, small town gossip as well as laughter, tears, anger, hopelessness and hope, romance and love. The story concludes nicely with both the epilogue and extended epilogue and a happily ever after that was nicely portrayed. There are a few loose ends and I'd love to meet up with Jane's family again.

Ms. Foster writes historical western romances and I've enjoyed a lot of them. Some have more depth of characters and the story line than others but all have been enjoyable and quick reads. Give her books a try if you haven't already.

✴️✴️ONE THRILLING DELIGHT✴️✴️
Marvelous! Etta lays out another masterpiece with this beautiful heartwarming wonder, weaving in threads of oppression, loss, lack of self-esteem, heartache and longing, searching for one true love, sanctuary and hearth, sowing the seeds and watching them grow, binding this jewel together seamlessly. Constraints are amplified and exploited, displaying the fervent facts, feels and fiascos, shifting this baby into overdrive, blowing it into a tizzy with an astonishing culmination. Negotiating a minefield of daring drama, tantalizing intrigue, unmasking revelations, selfish greed, escalating danger and spiraling suspense, maneuvering through the cunning manipulations of vicious actions and malicious intent, baring proof and dispatching foes, propelling this baby to life flawlessly. The attraction and chemistry builds as each layer is peeled back exposing an undeniable connection and amplifying affections, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters, interactions and charged atmosphere along with qualities and traits that add depth and diversity, transform into genuine charismatic personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels like you can just reach out and touch it. Remarkable job Etta, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.

Clean Historical Western Romance

I received an ARC of this book from the author, Etta Foster, and this is my voluntary and honest review. I loved this beautiful love story of Marlon and Jane. Jane is the only daughter of a wealthy family and Marlon is a cowboy who is a trader between the Cheyenne and the white man and respected by both sides except for Jane's father and brother who are responsible for laying the tracks for the railroad. When a war almost breaks out between the Cheyenne and the railroad people, it is up to Jane and Marlon to bring peace. Was peace achieved? You will have to read the book to find out. I highly recommend this book as a clean historical western romance.

Let me start of by saying that I received this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review. When I received this it wasn't up on Goodreads yet and stupid me forgot to post it.

Let me say this is the second book I have read by Etta Foster. I love her stories. Like first one, it was good old clean romance. Sometimes you just need that sort of thing and this came to me right when I needed it. It kept me interested in from page one and in the end it left me wanting more.

You can't help but fall in love with the characters. I love reading stories about history told in way that could almost be told in modern day times. Marlon and Jane are characters that stand the test of time. Jane is the only daughter of a wealthy family while Marlon is a cowboy who trades with the Cheyenne Indians. Marlon is respected by the settlers and the Cheyenne; in fact the Cheyenne treat him like one of their own. Problems start to arise between Jane's father and brother start expanding the railroad. The people at that time were fierce and did everything they had to to survive. These characters were no different. I like the way Foster weaved loss, love, oppression, and heartache. Both Jane and Marlon are searching for love. I love watching them navigate through life while trying to overcome the obstacles to be together.

I don't know why I don't read more of Etta Foster cause I love it so much. This one had it all....adventure, romance, and a little bit of drama when a war almost breaks out between the Cheyenne and the settlers. Can Marlon and Jane beat the odds? Was peace achieved? You will just have to read this. I highly recommend it.

Making up is so hard to do

This is a good example of the tensions between the Indian tribes and railroad workers during the early building of the rails over the tribe’s land without regard to their lives. It was such a shame that so much sadness had to be experienced before the warring parties finally realized it would be much better to reach a truce and work together peacefully. The romance between Jane and Marlan was a nice interlude until they argued over a complete misunderstanding. However, the making up part was nice to read but it seemed to me a bit contrived. She was supposedly experiencing a severe bump on her head and yet she was making this big long speech about how sorry she was for their argument. I did enjoy this story and the extended epilogue afterwards. So there’s that.

Freedom

This was a very good book written by Etta Foster and I enjoyed reading it. A wealthy family, a over protective father, a abusive brother, money, money is all they can think about, a young woman, moving out west, a tau to build, a young widower rancher and buffalo hunter, friendly Indians, father's demands, a drunk and abusive brother, wanting more freedom, working for father, ignoring rules, meeting, caring, attacking an Indian, making raids on railroad, wanting to be together and a whole lot more. Will there be a happy ever after? Will there be peace with the Indians? Will they be together? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy the book and see what happens.

A Heartfelt Trail of Love and War

A son,Phillip and Jane Tinney all moved to a small town in the west to do some business with the railroad. Anson had brought his family to this town so he could oversee the building of the railway. Margot was a man who had come to town five years before with his wife to set up their own business. After his wife was shot by a settler who thought she was an Indian woman Marlot continued on trading with the Cheyenne and the townspeople so that he could live his life in seclusion. This book tells of the love of two people and the war that the train company brought to the country side. This is my review and mine alone. A great book to read. Norma Gorrill

Etta succeeded in another good storyline. Marlon and Jane come from different worlds but both have suffered heartbreak. This is slightly different from Etta's previous book but definitely worth reading. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in adventure and romance. I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely written here

The two main characters held my interest from the start of this great story!

I liked the background information given for all the characters and hoped as I continued reading that their issues could be resolved. One occurrence that I was glad to read about involved the Indian tribe and their conservation of the buffalos. Love a good Western! Gin O.

This is a different love story. It’s about Indians and town putting a train in. Was not one of my favorite stories of Etta Foster. It was entertaining but not my type of book to read.
There is an ongoing love story . Just did not care for this book.

Enjoyed

A simple clean romance that was interesting but I felt that the story lacked substance in it's telling. I would have liked to see more details and character development.

I love Etta Foster as a author. She makes me feel like I am in the same town as the characters. Shows never judge a person by their looks.
