Rate this book
She returned home from rehab, ready to embrace rock star life as a clean and sober woman. Would a shocking new temptation lead her down a different dangerous path?

The Neon Fishnets’ lead guitarist, Raina Emerson, returns home from rehab a changed woman. Embarking on rock star life as a clean and sober musician isn’t easy, especially since Raina has been the band’s notorious party girl for the past decade, but she is totally up for the challenge. With a new album topping the charts, a tour coming up, and her band mates providing their love and support, everything is moving along perfectly.

That is, until a different kind of temptation enters her life in the form of a beautiful woman named Lara Thompson. Complicating things even further is the fact that Raina and Lara have a history, a shared dark past that Raina isn’t ready to confront.

Play On
Raina is fresh out of rehab and determined to stay sober. If only it weren’t so hard. But being a hard partying bad girl just doesn’t hold the same thrill. She wants more out of life, she wants to live and going back to drugs and alcohol is a sure fire way to make sure that doesn’t happen! Her band mates are mostly supportive, but worried about a relapse, especially in the face of a tour and all that entails. When a girl from her past returns, Raina is shocked to see how grown up she is, the kid is now a woman and much to Raina’s dismay, she wants her… almost as much as Lara wants her. With everything going on and with who Lara is, do they have a chance or is there just too much standing in the way?

I adore the Fishnets! They felt like old friends and I was so happy to be able to visit them again. Raina was in so much pain, part of the reason she turned to alcohol in the first place. I was so glad that she was able to face her demons. This wonderful story is so full of hope and redemption, joy, peace and love. I was so happy to be reunited with this group of women that I stayed up way too late to finish it, I didn’t want to put the book down. I was so immersed in the story I didn’t even notice time passing anyway. Ms Knight really knows how to tell a tale and I read the first book several times. Now this series will be among my favourite go to reads!

Book 2 of The Neon Fishnets series began as Raina stepped off the plane from 90 days in rehab following a heart attack induced by a drug overdose. Throughout this book, we learned a lot about why Raina spiraled into over a decade of alcohol and drug abuse and her foray into sobriety. We revisited with the rest of her bandmates and met Lara, the younger sister of her best friend Gabby. This book was fast, I felt like we got to know a lot more about Raina as well as her other band members. I would have liked more dialogue between Lara and Raina throughout their whirlwind romance. It would have helped me as the reader find their falling in love with one another more believable. Overall it was an entertaining read that sets up the final book in the series! I'm on to that one next!

Yes, enjoyed this one, read straight after Playing with fire. Assume No 3 (CJ + ?? - we can dream) which will make this less of a Brick wall ending. But love their world, thank you.

Raina lived the last years with addiction to alcohol and drugs. This resulted in her going into rehab for 3 months. The story takes place as she comes back from rehab. How does the rest of the Neon Fishnets group take her coming back. How will Raina adjust to life without alcohol and drugs.

Lara reaches out to Raina as an old friend from the past.

I really liked the way addiction was addressed as a storyline that isn't written about often.

Face your past

I really felt all the emotions that run through this story. Raina is in recovery and still hasn't come to terms with the event that played a part in her addictions. Lara has been trying to reach out to Raina ever since she left town years ago. Their story is touching and their connection is intense. Great second book in the series. Raina and Lara are very hot together. I look forward to the 3rd book.

Delicious!

One of the advantages of purchasing a novel by Scarlett Knight is never worrying it will let you down. Ironically, the only disadvantage is once you start it, you can't PUT it down. Such was the case with Breaking the Chains, the second book of what I hope will be many more in The Neon Fishnets series.

Put simply, Ms. Knight has a remarkable talent for writing believable characters, engaging storylines, and dialogue that is always fresh and true to its character. That she tackled Raina's addiction with honesty and compassion is a further testament to her skills as a writer.

It was a joy to be reunited with these diverse and delicious women, and I eagerly await what comes next.

Great read, loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed getting back to these characters and the rock music world of the Neon Fishnets. It was like catching up with old friends, and I didn’t want to put it down. Following along as Raina struggles with recovery and a controversial new relationship made for a real page-turner! And as usual, it’s an extremely well-written book. Give yourself a treat and pick one up!

Something disappointing about this one and I think it had too much to do with Trish being a nosy bitch for almost all of this one. She was cool in the first one with Ivy and Jackie, but not in this one.

Raina plays lead guitar in a famous all-women's rock band. The book begins when Raina is fresh out of a 90 day rehab after many years of drinking and drugging that ended up with her having a coke-induced heart attack. While she's thrilled to be alive and eager to get back to touring, she is struggling to stay sober and regain the trust of her bandmates. She's also still not reconciled to the death of her best friend in a car accident over 1o years ago and blames herself. When she receives a letter from the friend's younger sister, she's reluctantly agrees to meet up with her. That woman, Lara, is the love interest in the book.

As a chronicle of someone newly sober, there are some strong points here, though a bit of an easy road for Raina. On the whole, I had a hard time getting into this book and liking any of the characters. Even Lara, who is very likeable, didn't feel well developed.

Follow up that measures up to the first

“Even for a screw-up like me, as long as there was love, there was hope.”

A follow up that measures up to the first. Well actually, in many ways, this book really was better than the first one. The narrative was more relatable, the characters had more depth, & the story just felt more sincere. It all just came together in a way that drove emotional connections & investment.

An excellent sequel

This was a really great sequel and I'm glad Raina moved on. Uncle Zack is now my spirit animal. Great read.
