I'm using the Goodreads rating of 2 stars = "It's OK".

ETA - sadly I don't feel as though some of my issues were ever fully addressed, and when they were it was too little too late.

There were parts of this book I enjoyed and other parts I struggled with. Those were mainly near the beginning of the book, and I did briefly consider DNF’ing, mainly because I wasn’t fully invested in the story at that point. With encouragement from both the author and another reader, I forged on and ultimately am glad I did so.

My stumbling block involved aspects of the hotel scene , however, it was worth pushing through as I found the second half of the book more to my liking. The writing and overall story are good in what is a fairly quick read and where the story of all four protagonists will continue in future books.

Very often the more I think about a book I’ve struggled with, the more negative my feelings for it become. The converse is true here. As I’ve sat and worked through what I want to say in my review, reflecting on the story and characters, I can see how the author is throwing questions and challenges at the reader. How often have I whinged to friends about “too perfect” characters in books? How often have I begged for real characters who make real mistakes? So even though I’m going to outline some “negatives” below, I have a feeling that (a) they may have been deliberately placed in the book to cause a reaction and (b) they will be dealt with later in the series.

The Positives
Excellent writing
– the author's "voice", the story flow, the dialogue, knowing who is speaking, descriptions etc are all executed to a high standard. There was no “effort” required to read the book. Not once did my attention drift, nor did I skip or skim any parts. I did wince at the use of the word “tool” but it also made me smile!

Tiffany - This book features TWO couples, the series will feature two separate relationships and we get all 4 points of view in the book. Even though it could have ended up being too many points of view in such a short opening, it didn’t feel that way. In fact – and this is a testament to the great writing of Livia Grant – despite only having 2(?) chapters from Tiffany’s perspective I felt as though I got to know her personality quite well. I liked her. She showed integrity, respect, kindness and loyalty. She’s a strong factor in my wanting to continue with the story.

Lukas - Despite Lukas agreeing to something he shouldn’t have, I believe it was a decision taken in the heat of the moment, and it certainly became clear it was something he regretted doing. His self-reflection was the highlight of the book for me. It took me from almost disliking the guy, certainly not respecting him, to absolutely adoring him and totally accepting him. I’m hugely #TeamLukas.

Final Chapters - The scenes and conversations between Brianna and Lukas in the latter half of the book did change most of my feelings about it, perhaps NOT quite in the way the author hoped, but enough to have me invested in reading future books in the series.

Subject matter covered – As odd as it might sound, I liked the idea of exploring . There are *reasons* behind Brianna’s foolishness, it isn’t a simple cut-and-dried matter, though I’m not sure we still have all the information as to the why.

Neutral/Undecided
Markus
– we didn’t really see much of Markus, so for me, he is still very much an unknown quantity. Whilst I can appreciate that his actions were born out of pain and anger, they still weren’t acceptable actions. Be an adult, sit down and talk to your wife. And a lawyer of his calibre would have been aware of the possible ramifications of his actions. The premeditation of his undertakings I can put down to a variety of negative emotions caused by what he witnessed. However to maintain that level of cold calculation, of epic fury, during the time he spent waiting for Briana along with all the actions he took to deceive her as he did – well that makes him almost as bad as her in my eyes. Both of them are going to have to earn my respect back – but I’m fairly confident that at some point they will.

Negatives
Brianna
– When I struggle with a protagonist it is usually an overbearing, arrogant male. However, it was Brianna who I found myself disliking, though I suspect she may have been deliberately written that way. I did warm towards her a little by the end, but she was just so stupid, almost too stupid to believe at times. Since she, and others, acknowledge that very thing later in the book it did go a fair way to ameliorating her behaviour. She does still have some way to go yet.

JAKE specifically – This was my BIGGEST hiccup with the book. I could get to grips with or even be ok with Brianna making stupid decisions because her needs weren't being met. Ish. However, I just COULDN’T believe that she would choose a man who had abused her in the past. Treated her so badly it had taken months/years to recover. Jake had There is no explanation in the world as to why she would choose HIM in the first place. I might have to eat crow because a good reason will come up, but I didn’t get one here and I do need one.

I was confused by Brianna’s response to what was a very serious assault. Her words acknowledged what had happened but her demeanour didn’t. I did get the impression she slut shamed herself by accepting blame by admitting she was stupid to trust Jake/go anywhere with him. I think that she either denied the seriousness because then it wasn’t real or she wouldn’t name if for what it was because her body had reacted and she got turned on by what Jake did. I’d really love the author to explore this more in later books – and perhaps she does!

TL: DR – So to sum up, this isn’t an easy read in terms of character actions and subject matter, it is in terms of technical writing. It is a story I will continue with, and if you’re open-minded to a challenging read, one where you might not warm to all the characters immediately but where the journey is worth the challenge, then I do recommend this series.

This one is a hard no for me. The lack of true consent and the lack of care after a sexual assault were something I cannot overlook in romance or erotica. Did not finish.

Brianna has suffered at the hand of an abusive Dom. It has taken her a while to recover from the hands of her ex but she has been lucky enough to find the love her life and get married to a man who is completely devoted to her and gentle. But something is missing. While her husband demands so much power and respect as lawyer, at home Bri finds the control she seeks in the bedroom lacking.

The only way she can see to ease the need she has for control and punishment, is to have a fling with her abusive ex. But when her husband finds out he hands her over to Lukus, a Dom labelled the Master of Masters, for punishment.

Tiffany is Brianna’s best friend and confidant and while she livid that Bri would put her wonderful marriage at risk for a ridiculous fling with her ex, she also becomes concerned when Brianna goes missing. As the great friend she is, Tiffany tracks her down to The Punishment Pit and what she encounters, other than shock at the punishment and humiliation her friend is being subjected to, is a fierce attraction to Lukus. An attraction that Lukus returns.

I have said it before and I will say it again: I LOVE a flawed character and this book has many. These people are idiots, they’re sometimes selfish, they make ridiculous decisions and they act on emotion and I absolutely devoured every single word of it. I went through the entire spectrum of feels during this read. I was at times filled with fucking rage and at other times just annoyed but I also felt the good ones; happiness, glee, humour and righteous satisfaction.

Wanting It All is a complex and many layered novel that deals with couples in the world of BDSM unlike any I have read before. It is highly descriptive, extremely erotic and very emotional. I adored the fact that the author was able to create a world in which she took a realistic look at BDSM, even the aspects surrounding safety and consent and healthy BDSM practice, without losing a single ounce of the titillation and the taboo elements that attract readers to these types of books. Underneath it all, there is still a lot of romance happening filled with enough angst and tension to keep me invested in these couples’ lives.

This book is descriptive and it deals with hardcore BDSM. It explores humiliation, dubious consent, issues surrounding rape and domestic discipline. You will not find a playful spanking in the bedroom here so if that’s what you’re looking for, this book may not be for you. However, if you’re curious about getting a more realistic look into BDSM and want something different to the ordinary – I highly recommend picking this up.

It's very rare that I give a book that I almost didn't DNF 5 stars, and even rarer that I give 5 stars to a book where I strongly dislike 2 of the main characters, but if I'm going to do that for anyone, it's definitely going to be Livia Grant and this book.

I really don't like Brianna in the beginning of the book, for a lot of reasons. I like her more toward the end of the book, but I still am not 100% on the like train. I think that she makes some really stupid choices, and doesn't take advantage of the things that are right there that she could use to help herself out of the situation she finds herself in. I think that she should've said something to Markus. I can understand her choices, but that doesn't mean that I don't think that they are stupid.

I started out liking Markus, but I liked him less and less as the time went on. I think that he didn't stop and think and try to figure out what was going on.

Lukus interests me deeply. I can't wait to get to know more about him. Same with Tiffany. I can not wait for the 2nd book to come out, because this one left me hanging in a good way.

Oh my goodness, Livia Grant has gone deliciously dark. Wanting It All isn't just the title of the book, it's how you're going to feel at the end of reading it - I want all the answers, all the emotions, all the books! This is a rollercoaster ride of a story that will leave you absolutely breathless and begging her for more.

The sub blames herself for her rape by her ex. I guess women in general and submissive in particular ask to be abused. I'm rather discussed by the people who this is acceptable.

The 4 "doms" who are supposed to be experienced quality doms (I use the little d on purpose) think nothing of physically abusing and emotional coercing a vulnerable woman. The husband knew she had been abused in the past and thought nothing of putting her through it with no concern for her mental health.

Since this was a cliffhanger, I don't know how it ends. But it should end with the the sub in therapy and then finding a real Dom who can give her what she needs without abusing her.

I was looking forward to a new series by Livia Grant but I won't be any of these.
Very disappointed.

This is the first book in Livia Grant’s 6 part The Punishment Pit series. It’s a rewritten version of an earlier series. I chose to review the first 3 books because of the fact theme and because I am a fan of Livia Grant’s work.

While I liked the writing, I was not a big fan of the characters or some of the situations. Brianna cheats on her husband Markus with an ex-boyfriend who has abused her in the past. It makes no sense that she would put herself in a position again and again.
Her husband Markus doesn’t bother to even listen to her, and hands her off to his college roommate Lukas to punish at his club, TPP, The Punishment Pit. And while Lukas becomes Breanna’s ally later, he coerced her into signing the contract allowing him to punish her anyway he sees fit. He also locks her in a cage and never checks on her, and ties her to a bed then leaves her there. No good Dom would do these things.
So while I enjoyed the writing, the content was a bit tough to take.

Couldn’t do it. When BDSM isn’t safe, sane and consensual, when a woman is forced and dismisses it, just couldn’t do it.

Wonderful BDSM story

I want to include some trigger warnings for this story: one trigger for some people is that there is cheating and the other trigger is that there is a rape scene, both are in the first section of the story. However I think you will really like the story if you give it a chance.

This is a multiple part story and so there is no HEA at the end just yet. I think that the story will however make you feel like you want to read part two as it has a lot of steamy scenes and a lot of punishment scenes that I found very enjoyable and I think you will also enjoy them.

I love how the characters are presented and I really liked them, there is a lot of great dialogue and I found the story totally absorbing and I am going to read the next part right away. So I wholeheartedly recommend this book and I recommend the rest of the series as well.

I'm conflicted in my feelings for this book and characters. Although the writing is great, and kept me entertained. The actions and thought process of the characters at times left me cringing. The h needs some serious counseling to come to grips with the fact that she was abused and I hope as the story unfolds she becomes a stronger person. Markus hopefully realizes he needs to be there for his wife. They both need to have a serious conversation, they both made mistakes that hopefully they can overcome.

I should also mention there are scenes of dub-con/non-con.

New to me author, Ms. Grant is one to watch. Her freshman book, Wanting it all, delivers it all. This is a nice blend of dubious con and romance. This story caught my attention because the blurb reads as a cheating wife receiving her comeuppance. Brianna hooks up with an abusive ex-boyfriend to receive a little kinky smacking. Brianna does come across as a very stupid female who needs to be put down. From the get go, I'm disgusted by her and hope she is thrashed within an inch of her life.

Here's the thing about Brianna. She's one of those people who cut off their nose to spite herself. She runs on emotion and makes decisions based on her feeling even if she knows logically it's wrong. I can't deal with these kind of people. Seriously, I have two siblings like this and it drives me crazy. I've learned to handle them in a manner which doesn't cause them to do stupid things because of their emotions. This is why I liked Tiffany. Tiffany, Brianna's best friend is worth her weight in gold. Tiffany is a voice of reason and placed in a tough spot.

The one I feel badly for is Markus. He's a loving husband who does everything for his wife. The way she treats him is horrible. Thinking I made a mistake with picking this book, I nearly didn't finish it. When Markus's friend Lukus shows up, this is when the story becomes erotically hawt and interesting. I love Lukus. He is sadistic and yet so loving. This is the turning point in the story. Ms. Grant does a lovely job turning the characters around. The back story as it unfolds is great. I'm hooked and I can't wait to read the next book in this Passion Series.

The BDSM in this story is fabulous. There is more SM than D/s which is nice to see. While I'm a D/s gal who can endure the SM, Brianna is a SM bottom. The way Brianna processes pain is accurate to those who are heavy into impact play. The humiliations in this story is just right. Brianna does need to go through penance for her sins. She is a bad little girl who needs to be punished harshly and this book delivers it. At the end of the story, I do like Brianna and feel sorry for her. She's not a bad person. She made poor choices and it looks as if she is moving in the right direction for reconciliation. If only other broken marriages could go through this kind of counseling. I think more marriages could be saved. My favourite quote in this story is - "Stop trying to poke the bear.” (pg. 177, loc. 2712-2712)

When I see this I know there is a bratty submissive and it can be an interesting journey for the submissive. Because sometimes it is too irresistible and one must poke the bear. This kinky story is recommended those who enjoy SM and a repentant wife finding the man of her dreams is right in front of her.

SPOILERS!!!

This is the second book I have read in this series - and it will be the last. This is not BDSM, not safe sane and consensual, or even risk aware consensual kink. This is submissives blackmailed into suffering horrific abuse - the woman in this story was whipped until she bled, further abused and then shoved in a dog cage with no treatment for her wounds or any kind of aftercare. Then the "dom" in question brought in a friend to abuse her even more - and then put her in a hot bath, which would have sent her through the ceiling with cuts on her back, but this fact appeared to have been conveniently forgotten as she actually enjoyed the bath so I also have some issues with continuity. Its also the first in either a duet or a trilogy, really couldn't be bothered to find out. If you are interested in submissives suffering severe abuse in a club setting then this book is for you - if, like me, you prefer books such as the Black Light series then I really wouldn't go there. Disappointed as I've enjoyed Livia Grant's Black Light stories. This book disturbed me so much (I read in bed before sleep to relax) that I had to do a 15 minute meditation to get the images out of my head as I was lying there thinking about how angry I was about what went down in the "Punishment Pit". I only finished as I was hoping there would be some revenge against the doms who abused her - unfortunately not.

I read this a long time ago when it was published by Blushing Books (a publication company authors seem to be fleeing). Though the ending has changed (I believe what was originally the ending to this book will be in the next), I'm going to leave my original thoughts here.

Short Version: If you like well-described kink scenes that are intense and skirt the line of consent, you may enjoy this. Be warned, however, that the MC spends little time together; there are violent scenes that are difficult to read; some of the scenes include sharing (which is not to all tastes); and it does end on a cliffhanger. Personally, I found the characters unappealing and the BDSM scenes too harsh and unerotic, so I didn't enjoy this. YMMV.

Long Version: The central line of action -- Brianna's "punishment" -- means that this is more erotica with story than story with erotica; very little in the way of character development happens outside of it. Even given this, however, Ms. Grant, an accomplished writer in this genre, has upended several Erotic Romance tropes, which I suspect will not be to all readers' tastes. On one hand, you could argue that this strategy introduces much-needed novelty into a very formulaic genre; on the other, these very tropes are what appeal to readers so Ms. Grant risks disappointing them. It is true that some of this will be addressed in subsequent books since this is the first of a series (a quartet, I believe).

The tropes Ms. Grant subverts include:

1) Focus on the MC: Here, Brianna and her husband, Markus, actually spend most of the book's time apart. In addition, because they are an already established couple (we don't see them meet or their relationship develop, and we see only a couple of scenes between them prior to the "punishment"), it's very difficult to invest in them (at least it was for me). I can't say I'm particularly interested in what happens to them next because I have absolutely no horse in their relationship race. Even though it's possible to look at this as a second-chance romance (a popular generic trope), there's still the fact that they interact very little in this book (though they will in the next). I'll also add that Ms. Grant actually plans to focus on two couples here (which she has done in other books). I found the other couple -- Lukas and Tiffany -- potentially more interesting since we'll actually get to see their feelings develop in the next books.

2) No Cheating: From what I can tell, reviewers are more upset by cheating than by anything else (including criminal activity); they really want the H and h to be laser-focused on each other (hence, the romance part). Brianna, however, cheats (which leads to her "punishment"). While it's true that she doesn't care for the other man -- who abused in the past and abuses her here -- the fact remains that Markus is angry at her for her betrayal.

3) BDSM Activities as Physical/Metaphorical Expressions of a Couple's Love: While it's possible to just read pure kink with little plot or character development, it's not my preferred reading and I don't think it's many others'. Yes, it's great to read these hot scenes, but it's equally great to feel an emotional connection between the two partners that the BDSM both enhances (trust) and physically depicts (intimacy). Little of this happens here, however, since it's Lukas -- who has no connection to Brianna -- who does the erotic "punishing." In addition, although Brianna keeps saying that all she wants is Markus, she's actually turned on by what Lukas does to her (and vice versa) (see #2).

4) An HEA or HFN: Neither happens here, but it is the first in the series.

In addition to the above, I'll add three subjective problems I had with the book that may not bother others. First, none of the characters except Tiffany (the only one with any common sense) is remotely likeable. One of the reasons that it's difficult to invest in Brianna and Markus' relationship is that it's based on secrets and lies: neither has been honest with the other about who they really are. It's hard to say exactly what Brianna is trying to salvage given that they don't really have much of a real relationship to begin with. Markus, a supposed dominant, is such a coward that he refuses to confront and speak to his wife himself; even though he is the injured party, it's impossible to have any respect for him (and his manipulative actions and vicious revenge make him little better than Jake). (I'll also add that he never seems to have trusted his wife since he allows Lukas to put tracking equipment on her.) Brianna is weak: one thing that I particularly object to in this book is Ms. Grant's putting us in the position of "blaming the victim." While no one is ever responsible for their own abuse, Brianna doesn't even take the most basic safety precautions (nor does it make sense that she didn't go to the police after Jake raped her the first time). Finally, Lukas' reasoning is simply unfathomable. While Ms. Grant tries to make his part in this understandable by emphasizing his friendship with Markus, it boggles the mind that anyone could think this was a good idea -- especially given his extant legal problems. Though Lukas does, to his credit, ultimately realize how problematic what he's doing is, I didn't appreciate all the gendered slurs he hurls at Brianna (and if you think this is okay, ask yourself how comfortable you would be if he shouted racist invective at her). Now, you could argue that these are simply flawed characters, so YMMV. Even given that, however, I didn't find any of them appealing enough to want to get to know better.

My second problem is the rape: Ms. Grant , who is an unsubtle writer, uses this as a plot point in many of her books and quite frankly often more for sensationalistic value than anything else (see Rocked). And the men here (Markus, Lukas, James, and Derek -- all of whom we'll see in subsequent books) simply re-victimize a victim.

My final objection is that the BDSM (if you can call it that) was too harsh for me. Yes, technically it was consensual and Brianna did have a safe word, but given that she would be ending her marriage if she ended her punishment, I don't really think of this as true consent. And the fact that we're told repeatedly that Lukas is a responsible dominant and yet punishes her in anger is yet another reason why his actions here are so suspect. (And, really: it just occurs to him now that he shouldn't leave someone alone when they're tied up when that's like BDSM 101?) I'll also add that it's only due to the magic of fiction that Brianna is not seriously injured (she goes into convulsions at one point, which Dr. James, another "punisher," is just fine ignoring).

This book didn't work for me; I simply couldn't believe what it ultimately posits: that BDSM can cure relationship woes and that people should be erotically "punished" for such serious issues as occur here -- the "punishment" came across as both too much and not enough. In addition, the characters' thought processes and motivations were often incoherent and gave me whiplash (Brianna is raped; she's turned on by the rape; she's ashamed of her reaction; but the rapist is evil; but she's excited; but...you get the idea). If you think you'll like this book, I encourage you to read the many 4- and 5-star ARC ratings it's already received.

Finally, I want to say to Ms. Grant since she brings up the topic of legal actions against BDSM at the beginning of the book: Whether or not someone is "feminist" (it's amazing how many generic authors consider this a dirty word even though none would have careers without it) is immaterial when judging whether or not BDSM is abusive. While it's true that some do view it through that lens (and I'll add that books such as this one just support the attitude that BDSM doesn't always practice SSC or RACK and is inherently gender-essentialist even though its roots are actually the opposite), BDSM can and does turn abusive (I could link to several articles on one partner erotically asphyxiating another to death, but I'll spare you). If you're going to call attention to the problem of BDSM mainstream acceptance, stop blaming feminists: I absolutely assure you that we're not responsible for all the ills of the world that many think we are.

ETA: Amazon's categories are inexplicable to me: why on earth is this listed under New Adult & College Romance?

It's a pure BDSM erotica with elements of love and other emotions. I liked the storyline and the hardcore punishments with their lenghty detailed description.
I am just a little uncertain about some of the things which made me cringe. I don't know but "naughty" "little girl" these words are so unrealistically cringy. These are playful words and they seem off beat when used in serious situations like when Bri was punished for the first time. I like BDSM novella but I prefer more serious bdsm ones like some books by claire thompson (for e.g no safeword). They seem more serious and not just playful.

I bought this book after reading several snippets on Facebook that I couldn't get out of my mind. The thing that caught my attention and held it was the gritty, hard, very real feel of the story. Wanting It All deals with a wife's infidelity - a topic not so easily taken on in any sort of romance. In this case, the author not only takes it on, she stops it dead in its tracks and faces it and she does it without softening.

The Punishment Pit is just that - a place where Doms bring their subs to be publicly punished and any punishments carried out there are harsh and hard punishments. That was one of the things that stood out about this book and that I liked so very much. This was not a soft, sweet romance, not even close. This is hard core and raw. The punishments are detailed, each lick of the strap or stroke of the cane is felt by the reader. The anticipation leading up to the punishments had me holding my breath. If I can describe this book in one word, it would be raw. I so appreciate that the author dared to take on a topic such as infidelity, set it in a BDSM setting and wasn't afraid to really push boundaries and I'm so glad the story continues. I loved this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.

Holy hell. I don't know where to start. This book destroyed me. I read it in about four hours. I couldn't put it down. I escaped to the bathroom so I could finish this book alone! I was addicted to this story. I had to read more, I had to know what was going to happen! I laughed, I cried and I shuddered and shivered more then I had with any other book before. If you ever need extra batteries to read a book, it this one!

Now for the warnings haha this is a very hardcore BDSM story with lots of spanking and punishments. Humiliation and doctor play. Also a heartbreaking love story. I can honestly say I had no idea where this story was going. I had no idea what was going to happen and I'll admit I was scared at where my thoughts were going.

This was a fantastic mind blowing, heart breaking, hot-as-hell story that I can't wait to read more of! Miss Livia is a new author to me but she is on my auto buy list now for sure. Highly recommended this story if you want something to push your limits and read about real true love and what one young girl will go through to prove it.

It’s impossible to remain neutral about any part of this book, whether it’s the story itself, the characters, the events … You’ll either love them or hate them. Hate for me was Brianna’s cheating with Jake … it felt like she made too many excuses, and that was my biggest hurdle. I’m not a huge Markus fan at this point either – and there was definitely not enough communication there. However, Brianna’s strength and determination when facing the consequences for that cheating, Lukas’s ability to reflect on what was happening – and wow the scenes themselves. There are events that are hard to read, there are questions that need to be answered, and this reader at least is desperate for the next book! Don’t think you can pick this book up and dip into it – it’s a sit down with a cup or glass of something strong and finish it kind of read – my favorite kind.

I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

《《《《《 AAAAAAAHHHHHHH 》》》》》
☆☆☆ OOOO~MMMM~GGGGG!!! ☆☆☆
⭐ MUST READ! MUST READ! MUST READ! ⭐
THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!
I'm hooked! I am completely, and totally invested in this story. I need the next book more than I need my next breath! The characters, the plot, the writing, everything is spectacular!
Oh, I can't wait for the next book...

UPDATE:
Days later, and I'm still thinking about this book. This is the best kind of book experience to have. When a book stays with you, and scenes are on repeat in you head. Or a family member finds you mumbling to yourself while you're shaking your head (LOL, that didn't happen to me, LOL).

I began to read this book and for the first few paragraphs I was Eye-rolling constantly!
"No, Dont, Turn On Your Brain, Woman!"
And then I find out its not just her, but he too is a,... Arrrgh!
No, I will not give away anything.
Just this much; instead of taking the risk to tell the truth in the first place, they both decide to keep their true needs a secret. And that blows up in their faces, spectacularly!
Although coming from Ms Grant's pen, you are guaranteed a seething tale of writhing, sweating,...
oops! Almost forgot myself.
Go, buy, read, you'll know what I mean!

3 1/2 Stars! Book one in the Punishment Pit series. Novella length reads more like a serial than a stand-alone ending on a cliffhanger. Told in multiple POV. I almost stopped reading around 25% in, as that part is difficult to get through. I did finish it and I still have mixed feelings. There is a lack of communication and betrayal between married couple Brianna & Marcus, but I am very curious to see where the next installment will take them.

A fantastic and gripping book!
Wanting It All is a very different and wonderful read. Livia has written a story that grasps the reader from page one until the end.
This book is easy to read and difficult to forget!
I am excited to read book 2!

Not even a HFN!

Brianna is happily married, but she and Marcus have secrets from each other. This leads to serious problems.
First of all, this is the start of a series, and there is no resolution in this book.
Secondly, it is well-written with some interesting thoughts.
Thirdly, I enjoyed it, despite the medical-play aspects.
So why only three stars? Brianna. Central to the story, and likely in at least 80% of the scenes, I don't feel her character is 'true'. She is a 'pain slut', yet balks at the likelihood of punishment, she is a submissive, but refuses to submit, she is meant to be intelligent, yet repeatedly behaves stupidly, she is described as strong, but acts at times, very weak.
Another irritation is we have only part of the back story to begin with, but even after the best explanation, we still don't know how the 'brothers' are involved. Since that speaks to why she does what she does, we need to know. And not wait. Because it's hard to feel sympathetic to a fool.

The opening subject matter of this story will sear you with its intensity, but the redemption at the end— scorching hot with punishment and passion—will more than make up for it. Ms. Grant shows the folly of not being true to yourself and the consequences of what can come of hiding your desires from those you love. Raw and brutal at times, heartbreakingly honest and unflinching at others, this novel is not one to be missed.

Brianna Lambert’s husband Markus is gentle, loving and is crazy about her--and she loves him. Yet she can’t stop herself from cheating on him with her abusive pseudo Dom ex-boyfriend. When Markus finds out, he is so hurt and angered that he drops her off at The Punishment Pit—a BDSM club where Doms take their wayward subs to be punished by the master of all Masters. There, Brianna is a given the choice to either sign divorce papers or submit to severe, humiliating punishments. Desperate to save her marriage, Brianna chooses the latter. Markus’s friend Lukas proceeds to put her through the paces in an attempt to break her down and get her to sign the papers. In the process, Lukas learns why Brianna cheated, and he begins to have sympathy for her. But will the information be enough to convince Markus to give her another chance?

I was blown away by this debut novel by author Livia Grant. First, it is very well written and the story was so gripping it wouldn’t let me go until I finished it. I lost sleep over this book. Second Livia Grant did something that many other authors don’t do—she took risks by tackling a taboo head on. No, not BDSM. Infidelity. I read a lot of domestic discipline novels and a fair amount of BDSM and when punishment occurs it is usually for something insignificant—the hero tells the heroine to stay put—she disobeys. She does something a little reckless that he feels isn’t safe, she talks back. I always wondered why no one ever wrote a story in which the heroine did something truly bad, something that was unquestionably wrong.

Brianna Lambert does that when she cheats her husband. And Markus does that when, knowing of the physical abuse in her past, he washes his hands of her and abandons her to be caned, whipped and God- only-knows-what else until she signs divorce papers. Yet the reader has sympathy for both of them. The emotions are raw, honest, and real.

This is not a typical erotic romance (I would call it erotica, but even then it’s not typical). For a good part of the book, “hero” Markus isn’t even in the picture—the story shifts to his friend Lukas who administers the punishments. And then it shifts again to Tiffany, Brianna’s BFF, who goes in search of Brianna when she turns up missing.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a gritty, edgy novel that lays it on line. For BDSM and spanking fiction fans, Wanting it All is a must read.

What a gripping story, despite some parts being very difficult to read. It was brutal at times with heartbreaking raw emotion, but I couldn't stop turning the pages.

Brianna and Markus are married, I'd like to say happily because on the surface it seems that way. They really are in love but they've both been keeping secrets from each other. That's the thing with secrets, when they come to light, the fallout can be disastrous!

You know in a horror movie, when the girl is about to go down into the dark, damp cellar and you shout at the screen because you know how incredibly stupid it is and all she just needs to do to survive is run in the opposite direction? This was me to Brianna at the start. I knew it was stupid, she knew it was stupid but she went anyway and the consequences of that started a devastating chain reaction.

I knew before I started reading I would need an open mind. Some of the subject matter is dark and violent, there is "apparent" cheating which isn't my favourite topic at all, but.....and this is a big but.....don't let this put you off, especially if you are ok with triggers and scenes with dub-con and non-con sex. Things aren't always as they seem and although we get a lot of information of what Brianna has been through with her ex and the mistakes she has made, the lines are very blurred. I'm sure we haven't seen the whole picture yet.

This book and series is heavily centred in the bdsm world. Bri is so submissive and actually my heart broke a little for her as her mind battled her body's reactions. I liked her despite her crazy decisions but she has a lot of redeeming to do.

Livia Grant has beautifully written a compelling book, that even with four povs, really worked. An intriguing, twisting story that has made me stop and think and it has made me feel. Her characters are flawed which makes them seem real. I hope it will be a series ultimately about love and growth, but also betrayal and it's consequences, self discovery and self acceptance, forgiveness, second chances and rebuilding trust, honest communication as well as some steamy hot and (probably) hard core bdsm scenes. However this is going to be a tough, painful road, especially for Bri and Markus and who knows what the end will bring? Not me that's for sure!

The Punishment Pit is as it sounds, so be warned!! It ended on a cliffhanger and thank goodness there is not long to wait for book two, because I can't wait to read more.

4.3 stars

What a pleasant surprise. I have always been a fan of this author after discovering the Black Light series. However, I might have to say that I liked this a little more. I had never read the original version and only have to go on this updated version.

From the beginning, I could tell by the characters that as happy as they both were they weren't exactly being honest. I just didn't know how much until later. I have to be honest, I did not see things turning out the way that they did with Brianna and Jake, nor did I see the reasons why. As a certain scene was happening, I couldn't help but think why she was keeping such a secret from Marcus, especially as there was more to it than just what she felt forced to do. I felt like this portion of the story could have expounded on the reasons why. Especially, as Brianna and Marcus were so well established. It raised questions for me. If Brianna had told Marcus about her past relationship with Jake and that was the reason that he didn't act a certain way, wouldn't he have known that she was submissive? In all their openness, why did neither of them truly open up about their wants and needs? Isn't that the primary objective of any relationship, regardless of whether it is a BDSM one?

Even with those questions, the punishment scenes were Fire. Good Lord, I loved that things were explained with such detail, some things were even more spelled out than they are in Black Light and I loved getting to see more of what is out there in this world. I was prepared to hate Lukas for going the route that he did, especially as it is apparent even though things could have gone differently if they had communicated that Brianna loved Marcus. Yet, as the book and punishments went on, I found myself wishing that this would turn into a poly relationship because there was just something about Lukas as he discovered her secrets. I felt bad for him that he realized how perfect Brianna was and how lucky Marcus was.

I was confused about how Tiffany came into play, and how she was going to factor in with this story in regard to Lukas, Marcus, and Brianna. I wasn't ready for the story to end. there are definitely some triggers in this book for some reasons and not everything is safe, sane, and consensual (SSC).

Brianna seemed to now have it all. A happy marriage to Markus who is a rich, sensitive and gentle man after a very abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend Jake. But she has been a very naughty girl. She can’t stay away from Jake, craving their history of very rough sex. Bri swears this is the last time with Jake; she knows she’s playing with fire. Returning home from an afternoon with Jake, Markus is waiting with open arms. He has just won a big legal case for his client and wants to take Brianna out to celebrate. Everything feels right until they head to a club after dinner.

When the realization hits her that she has been caught and Markus has brought her to a club where Doms publically punish their wayward submissive women, her mind goes reeling into a thousand directions. The club is sensual and erotic and frightening all at the same time. How does Markus know of such a place? Pleas from Brianna to talk about her affair are ignored and Markus leaves her there with Lukus to punish her for her sins. Brianna has two options, she can sign the divorce papers or she can accept her punishment at the Punishment Pit.

This story had me filled with so many emotions! Watching the characters go thru various stages of heartache, fear, and arousal and self-awakening. Clearly Markus had secrets and Brianna has to learn them to understand why this is happening. Lukus pushes her body to the limits but she is determined to find the strength to endure, believing there is hope for her marriage.

For me this book was the first glimpse into the “punishment” side of the BDSM lifestyle. It took a bit to process how the two worlds these characters lived in could co-exist. The punishments that are illustrated in the book seem so unreal and confusing to me. This is a dark secretive world mixed with pleasure and comfort. I think I was as shocked as Brianna and angry that her husband would subject her to all these punishments. I was cheering for her thru to the end and wishing she gets Markus and Lukus to understand why she was such a naughty girl.

I found this book infuriating. In some ways I think it could do a great deal of damage to the image the BDSM world wants to portray because for most of this book there is nothing safe, sane or consensual about it. Brianna suffered a great deal under the ‘hands’ of her ex so she marries supposedly vanilla ex-Dom Markus. Except Markus, because of what Jake did to her, has never told her that he is a Dom. After she has healed physically, mentally and emotionally Brianna misses some of Jake’s behaviours, the more Dom like ones. Jake convinces her to meet with him about three years after she marries Markus. After this sexual interlude she hates herself and then Jake blackmails her with pictures and videos he took during their ‘tryst’. When Brianna meets to retrieve these items Jake kidnaps, beats and rapes her but unfortunately the pain causes her to climax. Markus finds out and is absolutely heartbroken and enraged. He is so angry and hurt he turns her over to his friend Lukus owner of the Punishment Pit where bad subs are punished. Here is where we leave sane, safe and consensual behind. Brianna is given two choices, sign up to become a member and all that entails or sign divorce papers for an unconditional divorce. If she signs up to be a member Lukus is to punish her until she agrees to the divorce but she doesn’t know that plan. She actually should realize in my opinion that she has a third choice: refuse to sign either. She is given no chance to learn what being a member of the club entails so right here consensual is gone. Then the punishments are neither sane or safe. Lukus is furious with her too. The whole BDSM world falters at the point of her consent or non-consent. It infuriated me. It really is necessary to read book 2 in the series to see how it all turns out. If I hadn’t read the second first I would have deleted this book halfway through and I still think Markus is an asshole and not a very good Dom whether he is undercover or not.
