When Bluey Macintosh adds a Bengal tiger named Bhajan to his mobile zoo, he is merely trying to change a few minds—maybe even a few hearts. But Bhajan, raised by an Indian mast, one of the so-called god-intoxicated, has a different plan. He wants to change the world.Bhajan purrs—a phenomenon unknown in tigers—for six hours each night, and his purr has a mesmerizing effect on the inner being of all who hear it, including the other animals. Bluey and his crew of four embark on a journey which leads them to deepening consciousness, widening courage, and love. And they will need all the love and courage they can find to confront JJ, a nearly mad Iraq war vet, whose arrival at the compound changes everything.
Underneath everything this is just a very good story: the characters are interesting and the plot moves along well. There is so much to ponder about as you turn the pages. You receive just the right amount of information about the characters as you read to give you ideas about what might happen, but it still leaves you open to other possibilities. The omniscient point of view allows the reader to look into their minds and wonder how those thoughts and feelings will affect the others. At times I was worried for certain characters because of what I knew that they didn't. I love the infusion of poetry throughout the book. The character Bluey is quite literate, quoting poetry to the animals as a way to calm and reassure them with his voice. Even the usage of technology, with the whole online dating correspondence part, was written in such a way as to be believable. The author took his expertise with spirituality and spun it deeply into this fascinating tale. With love all is possible. I am glad that Tim Garvin got around to writing this book and look forward to reading more from him. I recommend this for mature readers only due to a few spots that would be (rightfully) frowned upon by censors of the young.(I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway.)
This book was a difficult one for me to place. This is not one of those books that you can just read in one sitting. You must have patience. The overall story was a heartfelt one. I loved Bhajan, and the love that he brought into the world. I felt that the author did an amazing job describing and writing about the different animals. The author did a good job of describing each character; they were described in depth. I have conflicting feelings over certain characters. At some points I wanted to jump ahead, but I stuck with it. The writing is poetical and artistic; it is beautifully written. However, at certain points I had to re-read the same sentence over again in order to understand what was being said. Overall, I would recommend this book to everyone. I love how interconnected everything was in this book. It flowed together very well. This is a very different book, and opens your mind and heart. It is a very inspirational book. I look forward to future books by Tim Garvin.
