Over My Dead Husband's Body

Rate this book
When an inheritance includes murder…

As a 30-something-year-old living in her mother’s basement after her divorce, Carly Taylor never considered herself particularly lucky… until her ex-husband died and left her his house.

She couldn’t wait to move into the Victorian mansion in the picturesque lakeside town of Landover, Wisconsin.

But, as soon as she unpacked her stuff and got comfy, she realized why she got the inheritance. Her ex-husband’s ghost is hovering in her living room, haunting the place, and wanting her to solve his murder.

Carly can think of a million people who wanted to kill the man. She’s just one of them. So solving his case is not exactly something she’s jumping at the chance to do.

But little does she know, his murder is just the beginning of her problems. There are a lot of ghosts in Landover, and now that she sees dead people at every turn, they all want something from her.

From the blurb this one seemed to have great possibilities but in the end it was just a bit above average. Unfortunately the main character was one of those ditzy women who still has not got her act together at 31 - in fact she probably never will. I spent some of my reading time wanting to give her a good shake.

Anyway, that makes it sound as though I did not like the book when in fact it was pretty good. There was a level of spookiness, some original ideas and a good twist near the end which I did not see coming. All in all it set up a good base for the rest of the series and I will be trying book 2.

What a fun story!
Surprisingly, I liked this one a lot. I'm not a ghost story person but this one was different with the element of mystery to it. There were parts that were humourous too. The snark between Carly and her dead ex-husband was too funny. You wanted to dislike him but you instinctively know he's not a bad guy.
You think you have the mystery figured out too. Or at least, I thought I did. Man, I was wrong. Liked that a lot too!
An easy read, love the authors style. I look forward to more from her.
Mystery fans will get a kick out of this one!

Put on your cozy socks, grab a warm cup of tea, and get ready to dive into the first book of what promises to be an entertaining series. It's perfect for the spooky season, (but surely enjoyable anytime of year) featuring an ex-husband ghost, plenty of mystery, a curse, an inherited “haunted” mansion and a fun-loving, witty medium! While ghosts aren’t typically my favorite in the paranormal genre, I love this author's writing style and had to check out this book. Guess who’s loving ghosts now? Yep, you guessed it, Me!!! I truly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to jump into the next one. It’s a spooktacular read! Bring on the Booooooos, Ghosties!

Fun! The plot isn't unique but it has a little bit of spookiness and a little bit of humour. I liked it.

This book is cute. Carley gets an apology and a house from her ex-husband but she also gets his ghost and his request to find out who killed him.

I had such high hopes. It sounded cute. The cover was cartoon-y and I thought it’d be fun. The story itself was ok. Many holes and somewhat silly. However, I am 100% rating this low as the narrator is a “Virtual Voice.” I just can’t get on board with AI narrators.

No, just no

I did finish it, which is why it got a star, but unless you're enamored with 31-year olds who "know" who the murderer is but go to meet them in an abandoned place anyway, I really can't recommend this. The ending made no sense, I assume it will be cleared up in the next book but I'll never know. I don't usually post bad reviews but since this has all 4 and 5 stars I felt I should add my bad penny.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Carly has inherited her philandering ex-husbands old Victorian house, complete with dog and housekeeper. Carly is perplexed. It should have gone to his new wife. or another relative of his. No sooner has she been in the house alone, does her dead ex pay her a ghostly visit.
This is the first foray into the Ghosts of Landover series. It looks to be an intriguing series of cozy mysteries with quirky characters and, what I can only assume is an over arcing mystery of Carla’s biological parents and how it pertains to the house she inherited. I think there is a lot more to that aside from a resemblance to a doll and a former dancer.

There are a few noticeable grammatical and spelling errors and it could benefit from a good edit.
The characters are slightly wooden. They are interesting, but no one really stood out except the annoying ex-husband’s ghost.

This was initially slow in starting but I kept reading because I wanted to find out who killed Carly’s ex-husband and who was murdering the strippers. And boy, did the revelation take me by surprise. I suspected a member of Carly’s former in-laws, not who it turned out to be.
It was nice how Carly and her best friend set on the road to reconciliation after the dust settled from the murders.
Her ex-husband is still haunting her so either he doesn’t want to leave, or his killer hasn’t been found yet.
I would recommend this to people who like quirky small towns, mysteries and a dash of paranormal elements.

Once you read a book, catharsis is what connects you to it. I got this book in return of an honest review and just having finished reading it, my opinion of it can not be any more honest.
The characters of this book are indulging albeit very 1 dimentional. We only see Carly being humaine and having all sorts of feelings; doubts to fears. The rest of the characters such as most of the Bowmans have just the aspect of villainy. Justin is just an ex with lingering interest. The old prof is a dead annoying piece of air and we only get a glipse of Tina, literally.
The wriring was sub par at best. Althought I must say I kept reading, this is mostly due to the plot of the story. If the wring, number of punctuation mistakes and sentence structure was changed then I think this book could really be a credit to the literature world.
I liked how the story unfolded. May gave been predicrable fur some but I like not to try to solve things myself and live with the characters. Hence at the end I found it to have quite a twist and actually found myself liking the book despite all its flaws.
I would like to thank the authir for writing it and I look forward to reading the next one.

I enjoyed the book. Have to admit, I really didn't come through with the real killer, which is unusual for me. It was a surprise. I also thought that Justin would have played a more significant role throughout the book, but he is inconsequential until the end. Although I enjoyed the book, I really do not feel that I will continue with this series. As our heroine stated, she is not getting any younger and would like to marry and have a family. Well, that is not going to happen with her dead husband pussy-footing around. As a psychic medium she really doesn't need him around to interfere with her life. She is more than capable of working without him and his controlling ways. With him around, she will never grow into the mature adult, capable of running her own life, and becoming the person she should be. She will never be free so long as he remains in the picture thwarting any chance at love, marriage and family that might come her way. So, I feel that continuing with this series would be a lesson in futility, which I can do without.

I had so much fun reading this book and I am not even a fan of paranormal, so that's saying a lot. I decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did.
It is amusing, with many funny moments and clever story. Not too heavy on paranormal, still it was intersting to read what happens when you chanel a ghost.
Very well written and it grips you from the start. I simply could not put it down. It has a nice flow and is immensely entertaining.
When Carly left her chaeating husband she also woved never to came back to the tiny town. When her husband dies and leaves her a his huge Victorian house, she thinks she is saved from living with her mother and her concern about Carly's shrivelling ovaires. However, this gifts comes with the price. He claims he was poisoned and wants Carly to find out who did it.
Simply delightful, I highly recommed it and sincerely hope this will turn out to be long standing series. I can't wait for the next book.
I received ARC copy for an honest review.

Catching up on reviews. Didn’t realize kindle wasn’t marking these completed.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

The Ex-husband’s Murder

Carly gets a call that she inherited the old family mansion from her ex-husband, Jackson. There was, also, enough monthly payment to keep the utilities paid. . . maybe. She had a list of things she had to do along with taking care of Rex, Jackson’s dog that was mature when they married. After Rex died, the house would be hers to remodel (or burn down) as she wished. When she moved in, she found Jackson’s ghost was waiting to tell her she needed to find his killer. Oh, and there is the matter of strippers being murder and their bodies dropped around town.
This is a little dark, paranormal story about a strong medium getting training for a much needed interaction with murdered ghosts around her town. It is funny and has a paranormal twist that is a curse from the past.

The sentinels come out to defend her

Outstanding. A brilliant new series. She has just inherited the family home of her ex-husband. Too bad it came with a wad of conditions and ghosts including her ex-husband (who claims he was murdered). Throw in a family that want the house, murdered strippers, a curse and a medium who has just come into her powers. A really terrific plot whilst the storyline is sublime. She is fed up with being treated as a failure, desperate to find out more about her adoption, but is still confident and willing to try new things. The rest of the characters are so vivid you can picture them in your mind's eye as you devour the book.

A bit of spooky chuckle

What do you get with an old house in inheritance and that too from your estranged divorced cheating dead husband?! You get a spooky story and an apparition of the dead husband wanting justice from his killers. If that's not enough you have a whole lot of mystery that the wife has to solve and absolve her husband from other crimes and murders too.
The book has some funny chuckle moments and some really dim-witted situations that are handled by the lady of the hour. You'll roll your eyes at her silly choices and want her to hurry up the process that she foolishly lands into. It's a quick read mystery book for a lazy afternoon.

First of a series, apparently. Good story, but not enough to interest me in reading the remainder. Formulaic. No surprises; if you don't know within the first few chapters who the bad guy is, you aren't familiar with the genre.

Still, a good representative of the genre, with enjoyable characters and only minor inconsistencies (as in, some people manage the gate road quickly, and at night, despite the initial description saying even one familiar with the road would have difficulty). Worth your time for a pleasant afternoon read.

Okay read, found the MC to be really, really unlikeable. I mean, she has no career, no home (aside from living with her mother) no job, two degrees. She she is given a mansion, which she bitches about, and complains about leaving the house. Hello, you have no where else to go. Just suck it up. All you have to do is feed the damn dog (your dog, by the way) keep the house clean and still you bitch. In addition to that, her love life is so dull. I mean, come on. It’s like she picks the bad ones on purpose. God. Just no.
Unfortunately, I have to read book two. I don’t want to but, I’m gonna try.

Intriguing mystery

Fascinating plot, interesting details, excellent character development...all in all, a book I could not put down even to go to sleep, and often found I woke up with my Kindle lying next to me and my reading light still on! Sometimes I woke up when I dropped my Kindle and it hit my face (NOT a good way to wake up...)

This is a great series and I'm on to the next in the series...eager to see what's coming next! Treat yourself and read the first book...you'll get hooked!!!

This is the first book in the series. The main character is Carly. She inherits her dead ex husbands house and when she comes back for it, finds out she can talk to him and he wants her to help him prove he was murdered. She isn't sure she wants anything to do with him but then they find the bodies of 2 strippers murdered and buried on the property. Carly isn't sure what is going on or what she wants to do about it but before long she knows she doesn't have a choice. Someone wants her dead, Can she figure out who is after her and why before it's too late for her ?

Help from a troubled ghost

I don't normally read books involving the paranormal, but this one caught my fancy. Inherit a Victorian house haunted by your ex-husband and attempt to solve his murder is a good setting for a novel, but in a small town, where everyone knows each other and many are closely related, provides a really good yarn. It's also fairly gentle, so is easy to read. Not the most detailed plot, with a few sudden changes of location or action,. It still rates four stars.

This was a quick, fun read. The MC is not always real smart, but she's just quirky enough to make me like her. The ex-husband ghost is creepy (not in a paranormal way), but I love the dog. Story was good. I had the killer pegged about halfway through, but wasn't sure until the reveal. But I enjoyed it enough to read the excerpt from the next, which convinced me that I will go further in the series in the future.

Carly's dead ex-husband left her the family home. His uncle, aunt, and cousins are not happy, they want to sell part of the land to build a shorter road to the next town. Thereby making several thousands.

When Carly moves in, she finds Jackson's ghost wants her to solve his murder, that was ruled a heart attack, and clear his name.

The characters are believable and the plot takes some nice twists. It took me most of the story to figure out who the killer is.

Trying a little too hard for the cute and quirky....but interesting set up, and actually reasonably good all in all. Could be a bit tighter in places, and could use an extra sentence or two in others - but mostly reasonably entertaining. Stands alone, but some foreshadowing of other interesting happenings that may be of further interest - so might pick up the next one. 3 stars.

Surprisingly good!

I did not expect much when I got this book for free, but it turned out to be a really good read! The story is interesting with well developed characters and plenty of action as well as a dog that bravely tries to save the day. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more of Carly and Jackson's story.

A mystery with ghosts and humor.

Carly inherits her ex-husband house and finds his ghost is there. Carly must find his murderer. The plot is good and keeps the reader guessing. Carly and her ex have hid comeback lines for each other. There are twists to the plot. Thus is an enjoyable read.

Surprising

I’m usually ho-hum about paranormal but the title was cute and I was in the mood for something cozy-lite. The story had enough substance to keep my attention and yet lite enough to just chill out while reading. I like that the series is in Kindle Unlimited and that I can follow it through to see how Carly and the ghosts end up solving the house curse.

I inherited a cursed house.

The best part of inheriting a cursed house was you never knew what was going to happen next. There is a lot to learn and many surprises that you don't seem coming. I
t is a fun book in a rather
strange way. I am hoping the next book is just as good.
