I’ve been reading this as a web comic and really it’s the highlight of my day when it updates :) the art style is so beautifully done, and all the dialogue really expresses what the characters are meaning without feeling forced

Ugh, this volume tore at my heart. Relentlessly devastating, with no happy ending. When I first read Volume 1, it said there were only 3 volumes, so I purposefully waited until all three were published to finish the journey...only to discover this ended on a HUGE cliffhanger and there's another volume.
While I'm not sad about that, I'm a little frustrated and disappointed at the ending. Everything left in a bad place and hurt my heart.
However, as with the other volumes, Conner manages to pack a LOT of story in relatively few pages. I've seen 300+ page literary novels with less story/plot than this series, so I'm thrilled at the pacing and the concept development. Now just to wait for Volume 4....

This is my least favourite volume (assuming the story picks up to a satisfying conclusion in the final volume 4). It deals mostly with Chepi and Janek's various anxieties, stresses and issues - with themselves and with each other. It's frustrating particularly because they don't really have a conversation for most of the volume, and a lot of their assumptions could be settled just by actually speaking to each other. But it shows each of them for themselves, we see a bit more of their characters and how they interact when they're not travelling. It's a means to an end before the final part, but I was glad when it was over so things can hopefully move on.

This one was hard to read. The quality is amazing as always, visually, narratively... but gosh, it punched me in the gut, again and again. It took me several attempts to read it, because of my own triggers. It is the darkest volume of the series, and it is absolutely necessary, just... make sure you have the emotional resources required before reading it, as I think that it would deeply touch anyone, and be an intense read for anyone with trauma/abuse/low self esteem. Again, amazing book, but probably not the one I will reread before going to bed ^^'

this was just a quick reread before volume four, but for some reason i hadn't marked it as read. it's beautiful, of course, even in its darkness. it's tough seeing chepi spiral out and janek's best intentions destroyed by his own doubts. both of them provide a painful reflection of familiar struggles, but that just means i continue to follow them closely and learn what the darkness does. we do see how far they're willing to go for the people they love, though. how much suffering chepi puts up with just to wait for janek, and how much effort janek gives to his family and their inn. they're trying so hard.

and while i don't pay as much attention to it, the world-building is exquisite. it's so well done that i don't notice it, in fact. i don't have to notice it. it's crafted around me and lets me focus on the characters.

I was so excited for this book and I still am after reading it! the whole series has been a display of a writer taking their time to lay out what needs to be laid out for a really satisfying story about two people with a lot of complexity trying to figure out themselves and eachother. I can't wait to read more.

Holy shit, this was so hard to read. Just the absolute emotional trenches for poor Chepi. And Janek’s not having a good time either. This made me cry and generally feel awful, but I’m hopeful it will be pulled together in the last volume and they can just be happy, goddammit.

This volume made me cry. All of the miscommunication and unresolved trauma. I hope that both characters will be able to heal and let themselves have something good.

I love this comic so, so much. It's stunning. The art, the characters, the world building, the story. The whole thing is just exceptionally good. I can't recommend it enough. Along with O Human Star, this is one of the only comics I've ever read that has sunk into my heart as deeply as Saga. Which is just to say, queer comics creators making webcomics are where it's AT.
