What WAS that?#missingtriggerwarning
This book has been touted as Ivy's steamiest book ever and that may be why I'm a bit confused as to what I just actually read... We have our h, Ash, a 29 year old going through a messy divorce from a character in the Empire High Series. She is supposed to be an awkward "every girl". She went on a blind date with Mathew Caldwell in, "Empire High Matchmaker." During said blind date she somehow sets his d*ck on fire, which becomes known as "the incident" Don't worry, you will not forget this, because it is mentioned over 20 times throughout the book until it feels like it was beat to death like dead #horsefacts. Poor Ash goes way beyond awkward to the point listening to her inner monologs actually gave me a headache. She gets confused trying to order a smoothie which she does every couple of days in order to have something to sip while she watches her "stalker". WAIT HER STALKER? (Plot twist, She's actually the stalker imo) enter Tanner, another character from Empire High Matchmaker, that I was honestly looking forward to learning more about! Bummer, but we didn't really do so. I feel that maybe had this book been marketed in a different manor, I would have been expecting what it truly was, which is a book about a socially phobic girl, who appears to be suffering from some type of severe personality disorder, joining a "sex club" that wasn't all that sexy, with her insane friend who happens to think cheating is just fine... Oh and the H and h NEVER actually have sex! The closest you get is a dream with cake! (So much for spicy, or maybe it was a spice cake?) I could go on and on and on the way the book seemed to, but I'll use my inner editor, which is another thing this book really needed. Ash's adventures go so far beyond the comical that they are actually painful to read about.. (They're are also a few bothersome plot points, single girls' rule #30, which promotes stereotypes among the lgbt+ community, as well as rape used jokingly being a couple) Ash functions (or not) at a point where she is practically a danger to herself and others; she actually carries a fire extinguisher in her purse! (We can't forget the incident. 🙄) On the brightside, you do receive a link to a free Stalker Society #Tanner book, and while it still didn't give any new information in regards to Tanner, it was much easier to read his inner dialog. You also get to spend a bit of time with the before mentioned Matt Caldwell, while they create a scrapbook in ode to their friendship #Tatt, which is something I suppose...
