The same truth that kept them apart will be the same one that brings them together.
Life isn't any fairer for a shifter than it is for a human. Aiden learned this in his younger years when he grew up next door to his best friend, Maci, a human with no knowledge of his world; a human he's been in love with since he first understood the all-consuming passion that burned deep within his soul was no mere crush.
Aiden's supernatural world is filled with evil nightmares he can't capture. It's no place for a beautiful soul like Maci. As a result, he denies himself the true treasure of a future with her in exchange for freedom apart from his kind.
Unfortunate circumstances bring Maci home years later. The opportunity of a second chance gives Aiden renewed hope. The flames of passion burn within both of them leading to an instant reconnection that has them clinging to the possibility of a future together. With imminent changes on the horizon, will Aiden be able to protect Maci and his kind, or will the truth destroy the best of both worlds?
Could this be a second chance or another sick twist of fate? A Second Bite at Love is book 1 in the Unconventional Love Chronicles featuring steamy romance and a HEA.
I enjoyed the story but I didn’t like the fact the author barely gave a physical description of Aiden or any of the men really. She just said Aiden was fit. She didn’t describe his skin color which is a big issue for me. This book was listed as a Black romance on Amazon but the lack of physical description made me think he could have been non-POC which are books I don’t read. Plus Aiden said the word c—k. It irritated me because what black man says that? I finished it because the romance was good but the story did get a little boring to me. I will still read book 2 and hopefully it is better.
I thought the story was well paced but the feelings weren’t. But because this was second chance, Aiden was not playing from the start. I liked that the shifters were panthers, something different, along with a few other species. I did enjoy the subplot but it wasn’t resolved in this book. Although there was get back on Donovan, it was odd that he just left Maci alone when he was so obsessed.
There were a few inconsistencies. First Maci had second degree burns, then throughout the book it kept saying first degree burns. Shifters couldn’t get humans pregnant but earlier it was explained that they could have kids, it was just a toss up if they would be a shifter or not. There were quite a few writing errors that stood out more because the story was rather short. The FMC is a domestic abuse survivor and there should’ve been a trigger warning.
This was a really good book. I love that despite the terrible things Maci went through she didn't let anybody walk over her. I love Aiden's lil alpha self. Can't wait for the second book.
I haven't been doing well on my romance choices recently. I keep switching into editing mode, and since I am trying to read for enjoyment - well, if the book has too many issues, I got to abandon it.
Maci is human and Aiden is a panther shifter. They grew up together in a small town but he was older. Although Aiden's panther knew Maci to be his mate, circumstances kept them apart. Maci moved away to go to school and start her life in the big city and they hadn't seen one another in years. They reconnect when Maci moves home because she's running from an ex-boyfriend who tried to burn her house down with her in it. From there, it's them in a relationship and building together.
I really liked the idea of the Maci and Aiden who were in love young and got a second chance. The writing didn't deliver the story I so very much could see myself loving. In general, the book needs to be reorganized, more senses like smell and hearing need to be used to make the book more than one dimensional, and the circumstances need a heavy dose of reality or at least sensical in some way.
This was my first time reading this author and I am glad I gave her a try. This book deals with domestic violence but thankfully we are mostly dealing with the aftermath of it. Maci and Aiden knew each other as kids but lost touch when she moves away. They always had a thing for each other but never did anything about it. Now she’s back and Aiden doesn’t intend to let her slip away from him twice. The fact yay they knew each other before she went through what she went through with her ex made their relationship seem more real. Especially after what she went through. Great read and now I’m off to book two.
Well written, exciting, nerve-recking, sincere, loving. Donovan deserved what he got. Finding out that Maci wasn’t the only woman he treated like that made and his stealing not only from Maci but the police department as well, and who knows what else. Aiden was about to find enough of his misdeeds to lock him up for a long time. Aiden’s punishment to Donovan was worthy and deserved for what he, Donovan, put Maci through.
I'm giving this story and the next a three rating simply because there aren't any descriptions of any of the characters beyond eye color. What is with authors where the reader has to fill in the blanks? If it were not for the cover as something to do go on, then... Well, I gave book 2 the opportunity to change, but I guess she isn't interested. I will not be reading any additional stories offered by this author.
Demasiados libros, poco tiempo.
This book was well written, loved the fast paced romance. Maci is a very strong woman. I'm so glad she got out of a situation that she put up with for way to long. Aiden and Maci made a wonderful couple. Aiden didnt play any games when it came to Maci. He went after he wanted and never backed down. I gave this book 5 stars because it was very well written.
Not a bad book. I just feel like the ending was very rushed. Spoilers coming- What are the twins (girls?) That could have been easily mentioned and it would have been nice for a dialog of the first shift.. also, his thoughts on why she became pregnant and not Carla. What exactly happened to Donovan? It just left room for more to be desired.
I really like the characters and I’m happy with the ending and I’m looking forward to the next story in the series. However, it could’ve done with a little more editing. I feel like it didn’t flow as smoothly as it should have. But still enjoyable. Sweet ending for the main characters but there’s still a mystery out there that will hopefully be solved along the way.
I have been reading paranormal romance for years. In the beginning it was white women who were the authors. I’m so happy to see some Black girl magic in this space now. Tempest is my new favorite author in this area. I can’t wait to read all of her books. This was a great first one. I’m hooked!!!
I loved this story. It’s just what you need if you’re looking to switch up your usual urban fiction reading ( if you’re into those books). I kind of wish it was a little longer though. Yet they got their happy ending so it was good read. All in all the best short story I’ve read in while. I really like this author’s work so I’ll be reading book 2 &3
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I love the shifter community and how they can work together even through their differences. Great book, highly recommend!
Wow this is my first read by this author and I can say I am impressed. This book had me hooked from the first page. Aden was such a true gentleman. Zeke got off to easy. I wonder who is the person who is making the drugs. I hope the find out the source.
I really wanted to like this. It’s an interesting premise but the writing was choppy. The story line moved too fast and the plot jumped all over the place. It could be a good story if it was fleshed out a little more, the characters developed a little deeper.
Great start to a paranormal series. It doesn’t follow the normal path I’ve read in previous books, but love the layout. Looking forward to the next book in the story.
The Panther Shifter story I never knew I needed…..
Whew!!! First story by this author, but it held my attention from the first page. I can’t wait to read the next in the installment. I loved this story.
Delicious debut of this series from our author! I truly enjoyed Maci and Aiden’s story and how they both advocated for each other. Swoony chemistry and tied up loose ends make for a satisfying read.
A good read about second chances at love with a paranormal twist, running from an abusive relationship and a mysterious drug that’s taking out young shifter s.
