This one wastes no time and jumps straight into the action. When it opens, two men are preparing to break into the home of an elderly man who is an antiques collector. At the same time, Julia is preparing to leave her husband, Ian. In a horrible twist of fate, the paths of these strangers cross and things take a sharp turn towards the scary and dangerous. The masked men take Julia and her daughter Lucy hostage and what follows is the stuff nightmares are made of.
I felt so awful for Julia, she’s already in a bad place the night that she decides she has had enough of her husband’s scheming ways and the situation she finds herself in was completely terrifying. It reminded me a bit of An Impossible Dilemma in that it found a mother in an awful situation where she’s forced to do terrible things to keep her child safe.
I read this is one single “holding my breath the entire time sitting.” It was relentlessly paced with tons of action and suspense. I was praying that Julia and Lucy would escape unscathed and was shocked by the way things turned out in the end. This is the authors first adult novel as she has previously written children’s books and it was a fantastic debut into the mystery/thriller genre.

This was quite a quick read for me as this book is only 259 pages long but it does pack quite a punch in such a short time. I picked it up to read whilst out for a quiet coffee and couldn’t put it down until 2 flat whites and a salted caramel muffin later! This book plus caffeine needs to come with a health warning though-my heart was racing!
What I liked about this book was how it took a normal everyday occurrence and turns it into the sort of nightmare scenario you feel you can never escape from. Talk about a case of “out of the frying pan and into the fire” for this wronged wife as she attempts to escape her unfaithful husband. My heart ached for Julia and the situation she found herself in but the fact that she had her 8 year old daughter Lucy with her made her (and me!) angry enough to fight back. It really is do or die for her and her survival instincts combined with a mothers fierce protectiveness makes for a riveting and highly tense thriller.
I would like to read more by this author, maybe with a longer, more detailed and developed storyline next time but this certainly grabbed my imagination as I put myself in that “what would I do?” position and gave myself a rather sleepless night!

What a gripping story line!
I had absolutely every empathy for Julia. She is leaving her husband as she has had enough of and is determined to do the best for her and her daughter. On leaving the family home, even her worst nightmares could not come close to what happens next. She has to stay strong for her daughter regardless of how scared she is feeling herself.
To be taken hostage by two despicable men like Julia and her daughter are, I could very much feel the horror and anxiety that they were feeling. Julia knows that the two men are not going to let them just walk away and it is very much a survival of the smartest as she has to outwit them in the hop of every getting away.
Ian annoyed me as he is quite weak but I have to say I did feel sorry for him when the police are giving him a hard time. In a way I felt he deserved it but then he obviously loves his wife and daughter very much and is determined to get to the bottom of it all.
As for if Julia and her daughter get out of their horrible situation alive, you will need to read it for yourself.
Kill or Die is an edge of your seat read that had me gripped all the way through. It will have you wanting to lock all the doors and windows. A great nail biter of a read and can’t wait to read more by the author.

I am very grateful to Bloodhound Books for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review. The book is a very enjoyable and entertaining read, bringing together several characters in an interesting set of circumstances, but it perhaps relies too heavily on coincidences to bring everything together. The story develops quickly but lacks some of the tension needed in this style of tale, and I was a little frustrated by some grammatical and lexical inaccuracies. However, I am interested to see how the writer's career develops.

This book gripped me in more ways than one. To start with, it's a quick read. And because of the thrilling, constant fast pace the story was told at, it made it quicker still. Definitely a book that can be read in one sitting (I know because i did) and i felt a sense of fulfilment when i'd finished. I knew it's not one i could have left as it would've played on my mind.
Julia is fed up, angry, annoyed, distraught, you name it. Her husband is having an affair, she knows this for a fact but he's not admitted it too her outright. One last chance. She's given him one last chance to end it before she leaves and takes their 8 year old daughter with her.
He fails in the worst possible way anyone could imagine. It's his actions, that unbeknownst to them all, start of a chain of serious horrific coincidences that puts the woman he loves and his child in mortal danger.
I found Ian Logan to be a weak willed character and to be honest, i never really warmed to him. He is full of self pity and self loathing, when it comes to the crunch i'm not sure i'd want him to rely on.
Julia is a determined, intelligent and highly resourceful woman. And boy, did her maternal instincts kick in! Her love and determination to protect her daughter from 2 of THE worst villains i've met for a while, show through from the first chapters and that first fateful meeting with the murderers. She stays calm under pressure and i found myself questioning, "would i have coped that well in that situation?" Reading about their god awful circumstances made my stomach clench, my fingers grip my kindle and made me restless on my seat. A distinct feeling of anxiety overtook me and, like i said, i couldn't have put it down until i'd finished, as i wouldn't have slept feeling like that.
Brilliant writing from the author. Love the fact it was set in the third person narrative as it played out like a film in my head. It's always the sign of a great author when their writing can evoke such strong feelings in the reader. I can't wait to read more from Ann Evans.

This book has been my surprise of the year so far.
A first in the genre from Evans, Kill or Die is nonetheless a fine display of skill and confidence from a seasoned writer who makes smart choices in her prose and choice of narrative. Evans’ immersive and descriptive prose excels in engaging the reader and in stimulating a cascade of very vivid images of the setting and her characters.
Well-crafted, and natural-feeling dialogue, utilising a mixture of long and short sentence structure, augment the already good characterisation. Combined with Evans use of Body language to covey intent and emotion, this elevates the characterisation to another level and places it amongst the most skilled I’ve read in a while.

A third-person, past-tense narrative throughout suits the plot and propels the characters and their deeds along at a fair old clip. Kill or Die is seeped in suspense, eliciting a deep sense of unease and conflict throughout. The novel is permeated with a measured tension that I really enjoyed. With her choice to place Julia and her daughter front and centre, Evans appears to effortlessly tap into the subconscious fears all parents harbour and suppress and asks her readers to explore their own unease.
How far would you go to protect your child? Answer: As far as you had to.
A great new addition to the publisher’s catalogue and yet another declaration of Bloodhound’s intent to continue to develop quality books and writers.

Wow!!! And again…..WOW!! What an absolute page swiper, one of those books that grabs hold and will not let you go until you’ve finished. My poor kindle suffered abuse throughout; curry dropped on it as I read at the table and a near miss when running the bath. Be prepared to need to finish in one sitting and provide snacks/drinks for your family for the duration of your absence.
Fate brings Julia and her daughter Lucy on a collision course with disaster. If only her husband had not been “working late”, if only she’d waited at home to confront him rather than packing her bags and leaving that foggy night. If only then they would have been saved from the harrowing events that followed. Her husband meanwhile is none the wiser that his wife and daughter have been kidnapped or how much danger they are in.
Vince and Nash are possibly the vilest criminals I have had the displeasure of encountering; from burglary to murder to kidnap in mere minutes, these two repulsive human beings will stop at nothing. My stomach was churning as the pair went about their deplorable acts and my heart was in my mouth thinking how I would react if I was Julia and the lengths I would go to to ensure my daughter’s safety. Julia was without a doubt my favourite character: her courage, grit and compassion were captivating.
Five stars from me and I look forward to reading more from Ann Evans.

Kill or Die is written well, easy to read and I would highly recommend this story to you all. From the first page till the last, you will be immersed until you finish it. Wrong place, wrong time. Julia is leaving her cheating husband Ian, and taking their daughter, Lucy with her. At the same time, two unsavoury characters, Vincent and Nash have burgled Julia's elderly next door neighbour and are leaving the scene of their crime. Unfortunately for Julia their cars collide. A roller coaster of a read as Julia and Lucy are forced to join the burglars. Nash has a frightening facial disfigurement, but Vincent is the handsome menacing character. A terrifying ordeal follows for Julia and Lucy as they fear for their lives. Kill or Die had me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to find out the outcome, and therefore finished this book in the early hours of the morning. This is the first book I have read by Ann Evans and I look forward to reading more.

This is a compelling and engrossing read that is full of tension, and keeps your interest. The pace never falters and the characters Julia and Lucy make great focal points for the story.
This story is dark, and at times violent, but the violence is never over done. The bad guys are pure evil and I found myself trying to read faster than normal to find out what happens next.

Action thriller
I really enjoyed this book. It was action action all the way. It starts off with the murder of an old man Benjamin a former antiques dealer and neighbour of Julia her husband Ian and daughter. Ian is having an affair so Julia leaves him and takes her daughter, just as they are leaving they have a crash with Benjamin's murderers. They are taken hostage and are put through a horrific ordeal. Very interesting with plenty of action and suspense. Nice one🔰🔰😊

Kill or be Killed
Two of the most vicious criminals took Julia and her daughter Lucy hostage after burglarizing and killing their next door neighbor. What Julia had to go through to protect her daughter was nothing short of amazing. The ending of this book was so, so justified so if you don't want a major spoiler, don't read the last couple of pages until you actually come to them. Ann Evans did an amazing job creating suspense. I hope to read more from her in the future.

A tense, dark and gripping plot with a clever, unexpected twist at the end from a skilled story-writer. Ann's vivid descriptions made me feel that I was 'in the room' with the characters, living the scene through their eyes, I read it in one day as I couldn't bear to put it down. A recommended read. Gripping and full of suspense.

A brilliant non stop ride
OMG what a nail biting ride, this is definitely a must read for 2017/2018. Julia decides to leave her husband Ian as she suspects he is having an affair. Unfortunately she stumbles on two seasoned criminals and killers as she drives away and is taken hostage, along with her young daughter. It is a non stop ride from then on. Very highly recommended.

I don't usually read thrillers but this one really gripped me. An absolute page turner with lots of twists and turns and frightening moments that kept me reading long into the night. A few too many typos for a professionally published book. In need of a thorough proofread but even that could not detract from the skillful storytelling. Loved it!

It took me ages to get my head around the fact it was set in the UK. And to me, it felt like the ending was rushed.
It keep me reading and the characters were suitable horrible. I liked the chapter near the end from the daughter's pov. That added something different.

I do not normally give out 5* reviews, but for this I make an exception, because it is such an exceptional book.
I met Ann at a author signing event, got some super useful tips of writing as well as this awesome book.
It's so good, I read it in a day. She writes it in a way where the reader is gripped from page 1, which is a skill that few authors possess. I couldn't believe how much I loved the suspense and thrill of the chase, the innocent victim being harrasses and taunted by an unknown stalker, to be captured... Even though you read the kidnap earoy, the suspense about the choices the MC had to make was the artful climax.

Unstoppable.

This was an absolute corker of a book, and it had me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. Ann Evans is a new author for me and I am looking forward to reading more of her books in this genre.
Julia is married to a rather weak fella, Ian, and one night she has had enough. She packs a few suitcases, grabs their eight year old daughter and leaves him. Unfortunately for her, just as she is leaving her driveway she collides with a couple of criminals who have just finished robbing the house next door. The burglars kidnap the pair and then the tension really starts to mount. How are these two going to get safely home again and will her husband even notice she is missing?
I think this book has some great descriptions of human nature; good, bad and really ugly, and what people do when their backs are against the wall. The characters were beautifully written and I got fully immersed in the emotions and the tension of the various situations they all found themselves in. I loved that there wasn't an excess of description though and so my imagination was left to fill in the blanks.

Julia has had enough. She is leaving her husband and she is leaving him immediately. She packs up her things and heads out with her eight-year-old daughter. Things take a turn when she runs into two men, Nash and Vincent, outside her neighbour’s home. Nash and Vincent are on the run and they aren’t about to be stopped by Julia. Abducted and taken to their “safe house”, Julia must do whatever she can to protect her daughter and ensure their safety. She has no other choice but to kill or die…..
Sounds intense? You’d be correct to think so! Fast-paced, non-stop action had me on the edge of my seat and the likeable characters had me turning the pages faster than I could consume them.
I must start by saying that the pace of this novel cannot be beaten; from the first pages, I was hooked. Evans’ prose sucked me in immediately and I was transported into Julia’s world. From her discovery of her husband’s continuous infidelity, to her abduction, to watching her fierce maternal instinct kick in, I could not get enough of her story. Strong willed and tenacious, I loved watching her development throughout the novel’s progression.
I did find that the book ended a little abruptly for my liking, but overall, I truly enjoyed this read. It is short and to the point; the perfect book to participate in an afternoon binge read with.
I’m giving this one 4/5 stars and will be on the look out for the next book by Ann Evans!
Sounds intense? You’d be correct to think so! Fast-paced, non-stop action had me on the edge of my seat and the likeable characters had me turning the pages faster than I could consume them.
I must start by saying that the pace of this novel cannot be beaten; from the first pages, I was hooked. Evans’ prose sucked me in immediately and I was transported into Julia’s world. From her discovery of her husband’s continuous infidelity, to her abduction, to watching her fierce maternal instinct kick in, I could not get enough of her story. Strong willed and tenacious, I loved watching her development throughout the novel’s progression.
I did find that the book ended a little abruptly for my liking, but overall, I truly enjoyed this read. It is short and to the point; the perfect book to participate in an afternoon binge read with.
I’m giving this one 4/5 stars and will be on the look out for the next book by Ann Evans!

When you think you are escaping one scenario in life and head unknowingly into a worse one. This is what happens to Julia and her Daughter, Lucy when she decides to leave her husband.
A very serious of unfortunate events take control, as Julia's life spirals more out of control.
One of the hostages is the vilest of villains, and I had real emotional loathing for him and his side kick.
He is a foul human being of the worst kind.
Although his partner working along side him tries to make Julia's and Lucy's life in capture more tolerable, it is still too horrific. Julia has to decide to kill or die?
I was taken on a nervy edge of my seat read with this one, and was routing for Julia and her daughter to escape unscathed, and if she did was hoping she would get the new life she deserved....
This really was a fantastic suspense story, that kept me riveted to the pages from beginning to end.

Wow, this is one roller coaster of a book! I practically read it start to finish without drawing breath!
Atmospheric, tense, filled with pure maternal instinct how far would you go to protect your child?
Julia has had enough of her husband Ian’s philandering and decides it’s time to leave. She pulls eight year old Lucy drowsily from her bed so they can leave under cover of darkness and before he arrives home. The night is foggy, visibility poor and she collides with another vehicle.
This is the beginning of the living nightmare. Real edge of your seat panic, will Julia and Lucy survive the fate that awaits them. Will Ian realise they have gone?
I instantly bonded with Julia, could relate to her feelings and overwhelming protective nature. Lucy was an innocent child but quite streetwise for her age.
Ian is portrayed as the guilty party and for a lot of the book I felt he got what he deserved but deep down he has love remaining for his family .. maybe he can blame his actions on a mid-life crisis!
The villains of the story Vincent and Nash are as creepy as hell.
This is superbly paced, easy to read and provides all the chills. I won’t give any spoilers .. but if you had the to make the decision ‘kill or die’ to keep your child from harm I know what I would do!

You know when you meet people and you get that instant 'I like you' or 'we wouldn't get on' feeling, you just know, well Julia would be in the 'I like' side. Straight away I saw her as a strong woman, a fair person ready to give second chances. Ian, her husband had been given more than his share, even if he didn't know it. Working over again and gone midnight? Julia really knew better in her mind and she couldn't do this anymore, hearing the lies and unbelievable excuses. So she packed up, woke her 8 year old daughter Lucy and they fled their family home in the middle of the night before her two timing husband got back. Sometimes though you don't see a person when they are always there, you only see when they have gone.
Now driving when you are upset isn't the best thing but add fog and the two hyped up murdering burglars leaving the house next door and Julia's plan of a better life for her and her daughter just moved into nightmare mode. Wow talk about wrong time, wrong place! Not been able to leave the mother and daughter to raise the alarm they were taken with killers that had nothing to lose and everything to gain if they could escape without leaving witnesses.
There are very few characters in this book, which was quite obvious from the start and I wondered if it would keep my interest. Believe me before I had read very far there were two more that I wanted to get rid of straight away, Vincent and Nash, boy were these scary guys! Vincent more the brains, and I say that loosely, while Nash was the brawn. Julia and Lucy were in line for becoming collateral damage.
This is a wicked story that made me swear more than once, something that I don't do, I cringed and whooped too all in the same breath. It is like a darn good film when you are shouting at the screen and pulling your legs under you so that no one can get them. So tense, so exciting and you feel every nerve in your body wake up. My mothering instinct went through the roof. This is definitely one of those books that doesn't need tons of characters because it has one hell of a story.

I have just finished this book I thought it was a very good read. I could hardly put it down , the story was chilling , it always is where children are concerned.
