The Sutherland Legacy #5

The Highlander's Enchantment

Rate this book
From the best-selling author of the Stolen Bride Series comes a brand new and exciting family saga! For fans of Scottish historical romance, the Sutherland Legacy propels you into the Highlands with tales of daring adventure, irresistible heroes, and passion!

Lady Blair Sutherland has always followed the rules. As the youngest of five, she's spent years observing her older siblings misbehaving - but even more importantly, she's learned a lot about smoothing over disputes. On a playful dare with her cousins, Blair writes a fictitious note and puts it in a bottle, but at the last minute, refuses to follow through and toss it out to sea. As the months pass, she forgets about what she's written until a warrior lays siege to her clan's castle - in her name - claiming her brother is a murderer. For a lass who's never been in trouble - her world is about to turn itself inside out.

Laird Edan Rose has been looking for a way to prove himself to his clan after the murder of his older brother. When he was a lad, his father sent him to foster with Robert the Bruce, but never asked him to return home. Gone all these years serving his king, he has to make his mark and show his clan he has what it takes to lead by finding his brother's killer. When the answer to his troubles arrives as a message in a bottle, he wastes no time in taking action. Though he hopes the man responsible for his clan's pain will surrender, Edan is not afraid to wage war. If he has to, he'll lay siege to the castle, rescue the lass, and take out his enemies to gain the respect he seeks.

When a Highlander rides on her brother's castle, Blair knows the blame lies at her feet. If the only way to clear the family name is by giving herself up to a stranger and helping him find the true assassin - certainly not her brother - then so be it. But once she's in Edan's arms, the only thing on her mind is wondering whether his kiss is as powerful as his embrace. And as for Edan, he's now just as determined to prove himself worthy of Blair's heart as he was to show his worth to his clan. The one who wanted Edan's brother dead puts an end to their newfound passion, however, when he decides the two of them are an even loftier prize.

Highlanders don’t get any more hunky than in one of Eliza Knights Books .
In fact she seems to have exceptional taste in bringing us Edan, be still my heart .

Edan has returned from his battles on behalf of The Bruce, to serve as his clans leader upon the unexpected death of his brother.

Now he finds himself with a wife , a murderer and all sorts of shenanigans going on .

Blair is not some silly girl , she’s what others expect from her , sensible, quiet , beautiful and thoughtful.

Insisting war is not on her todo list , it happens non the less .
Getting married is there , but who wants Blair the not so Fair .

Excellent and enjoyable, this book is another wonderful adventure from Eliza’s series.

The Highlander’s Enchantment is the fifth & final book in the Sutherland Legacy series by Eliza Knight. Again, while each book stands on its own – characters and a few minor events from previous books are mentioned and it’s best to listen to these in order.

I admit that the missive in a bottle “set-up” didn’t really work for me as it felt too contrived. That said, once Blair and Eden were together I was as in love with this story and the characters as all the others. Poor Eden just wanted to be a respected warrior and he’s suddenly thrust into being Laird and investigating his brother’s murder. Blair was mostly content to remain the overlooked baby of the family, but she does long to find love, marriage, and a home of her own.

My favorite part of these stories is that Knight creates angst for the couples from external sources. While they have periods of getting to know each other, there’s no pointless relationship drama. Eden & Blair are no different – they are drawn to each other and quickly interest and lust turns to love. Despite a somewhat chaotic backdrop, they are adorable together.

The people of Rose castle have a traitor and murderer in their midst. Even after Connor’s death various people are nearly killed and distrust of the newcomer makes Blair the focus of their suspicions. While keeping them anonymous Knight includes a few creepy sections from this person’s point of view and I liked that it took a while for me to guess who they were.

Again, a great mix of sweet, sexy, mystery, suspense, and peril. It’s a great series that I’ve enjoyed listening to every book of.

Narration:
Antony Ferguson is again a great match with Knight’s writing. He does a wonderful job with voices, accents, and emotions. I really enjoy how he brings all the unique personalities to life.

Castle Ross, Scottish Highlands 1325
"What was that she was feeling? She was ... angry. Blair was never angry. She was always everything she was suppose to be-docile and happy and chipper. Anger was for everyone else because she had to keep the peace. Aye she was the peacemaker and peacemakers shouldn't fell like raising hell!" paraphrased but you get the meaning. Blair was the last sister unwed and in talking to her cousins began wondering why her parents had not discussed her making a match. She felt that might be the only thing she would be good at in keeping a home for her husband. She wasn't good at anything else! On a dare she wrote a ficticious note and put it in a bottle to send out to sea and forgot about it. See, they did that even then!
Across the Firth lay Kilravock Castle and Edan Rose had come home from serving his King, The Bruce for years. He got the news his brother, the Laird was dead and it appeared murdered by poison. Now he was the new Laird, a position he had not wanted. He knew how to be a warrior but how to lead his people? Bu the was determined to find out who had killed his brother, by poisen it appeared. Was it the hated Ross Clan across the firth?
By a chance of fate it seems, Edan finds that message in a bottle Blair sent out and rides for Castle Ross to find the man who murdered his brother, rescue the lass and avenge his people! I know you are asking, what the heck was in that letter! You will have to read to find out because when Blair realizes what she has done by her made up story, she knows she has to make things right and prove it was not her family who killed his brother. This definitely has Blair stepping out of her rut and going with Edan to help him find the real assassin.
Become enfolded in another amazing story by Eliza Knight who always takes you on a journey like no other! A large, scared highland warrior who has is trying to find his place as Laird to his clan and avenge his brother. A young lady who had always felt lacking compared to her sisters beauty and talents but has now sacraficed for her family. Can these two find the real killer or will the killer find them? Wow is all I can say! Surprises, suspense, an unexpected attration and a jouney to a happy ever after if only they survive!! Loved it!

Book 5 in series but can be read as a stand-alone

Oh my, one of my favourite of the series. Well written, interesting storyline with well developed characters. Add in a mystery, keeping a reader guessing til the end. The writer managed to create some steamy chemistry between Blair & Edan....sigh. So good.

Loved Blair and Edans story. Edan was Laird of his Clan after his brother was murdered. Soldiers were blaming Liam Sutherland and Edan wanted revenge but needed more proof. When a message in a bottle was found he wanted to rescue Blair and confront Liam.
Her cousins played a trick on her and when a warrior and his soldiers road hard to Ross Castle to rescue the Blair that’s not so fair she knew she needed to step forward and tell them what happened.
When Blair somewhat confessed to Edan he kissed her romantically. When more kisses kept coming Edan asked Blair to marry him. When she finally agreed and traveled back to his land there was not warm welcome for Blair.
There seemed to be a snake and a killer amongst Edans people but will Blair be blamed when more people die.
A wonderful read with a beautiful ending.

Eliza Knight never ever disappoints! This is a wonderful medieval mystery and romance. It grabs your attention in the first chapter and hold you in your chair until the very end. You will love reading this book or listening to the audiobook. The narrator is fabulous and does an excellent job with the variety of voices and dialects. 😍

Elliza Knight is at the verra top of my favorite Scottish romance author list, folks. This great series proves why. She never fails to give me a great perfect for each other main couple that defy the odds and often evil villains to get their HEA. Never in a cookie cutter fashion either, as each romantic tale is unique in its own way.

Blair and Edan’s reason for first meeting was certainly highly unusual. I couldn’t help but feel badly for her due to her misfit complex and feelings of inadequacies. She was way too hard on herself for seemingly no reason. Edan was eaten up with his own insecurities, as well. It seemed at first glance they both began to let go of that mindset and embrace the possibilities that now stood before them. They did really seem to complete each other.

Edan early on earned my respect when he was not afraid to man up and go back to admit he had made a mistake in turning down a certain offer. He didn’t let his ego and pride get in the way of choosing happiness. Blair was not a knucklehead, either. She sooner rather than later recognized Edan for the strong, good person he was.

Along the way there is a perilous situation that unfolds as a backdrop to this romantic relationship. It causes quite the disruption, murder, and mayhem until the pieces of the puzzle are put together. But not to worry, folks, life and love endure here. Just the way they always should.

Love The Sutherland’s

I love reading the stories about the Sutherland family. This story is about the youngest child Lady Blair Sutherland.
She is the peacemaker Of the family. She meets Laird Edan Rose and they are married. Edan is looking for the person that murdered his brother, Conner. These books by Eliza Knight are too good to pass up!!

So good!

When I first started reading Blair and Edan's story I was having a bit of a struggle getting into it. But as soon as Edan came to rescue her I couldn't put it down. I stayed up until late at night reading it. These Sutherland stories have been the best. And I don't want them to end. I would love to read more of the kids stories. Hint, hint Elisa?!?

Love love love the Sutherland clan

Just another great book. The one part missing in the last chapter was the entire Sutherland clan coming in to save the day that was already saved. I can’t wait for the next book. What a great story about Blair.

When I began this book, I thought, "Ugh, the author has been on this series too long." However, once I got into it, I had totally changed my mind. The characters became far more nuanced, and then the mystery deepened, and I was hooked. I am so glad I stuck with it.
