Casey has a job to do, and it doesn’t involve going to battle for a pixie of a woman with ever-changing hair and a violent ex. He doesn’t have time to meet new women. His clan leader has sent him and a couple of other misfits to retrieve his heir from the little mountain hamlet where the man has been hiding out for weeks. He must convince his once best friend to come back home—or drag him back if it comes to that—before their leader decides to put them both down.
Casey knows he shouldn’t be wasting time rescuing damsels in distress in the produce section of the grocery store. But he can’t help it. And the more he tells himself it can’t be permanent, the more he wants the ethereal creature he met between the pomegranates and the bananas.
Evangeline’s grandfather raised her and taught her how to make a living as an artist—by inking her designs on people’s skin. He would be so proud of her for opening her own shop—and for finally dumping her abusive boyfriend. If the scumbag hadn’t stolen her grandfather’s ring, she’d never see him again. As it is, she meets him in public to demand he return her property, but when he shows up, she only escapes him dragging her into the parking lot for another beating when a giant, brooding man chases him away.
Evangeline tries to thank the stranger, but he won’t even give her his name. He says he’s not sticking around town long and doesn’t want ties here. She tries to convince herself that it’s a good thing he’s leaving. She’s attracted to the guy, and given her taste in men, that’s a sure sign the stranger is no good for her. Which is too bad. Even though she doesn’t know who he is, Evangeline is half in love with him already.
Trusting the Betrayed is the first book in the Rogue Dragons series by Emilia Hartley. Like all Emilia’s books, this steamy romance has a sexy alpha male, a strong female lead, and a satisfying happily-ever-after.
Reading wasn't always Emilia's passion, but over the years she developed an irreplaceable love for books. She writes about large, protective alpha males and their strong, sexy female mates. If you enjoy steamy shifters and fated mates, then you'll LOVE Emilia's books!
This book was an uneven story but it still managed to be a good start to a series. I would have liked it better with A LOT less "woe is me" from both Casey and Evangeline. Casey spends the whole book feeling invisible, overlooked, abandoned, put upon and feeling sorry for himself. Evangeline is a bumpy character. She is not sure if she is a strong woman or weak girl and it's frustrating going from one extreme to another.
This is also extremely slow burn and drags at times. Even as I say this, I still fell for the plot and the group of wayward dragons and decided to move onto the next book.
Evangeline is fairly independent. She runs her own tattoo business, and has her own artwork and piercings to show for it. Her ex Trevor has taken a treasured item after she throws him out. The effort to get it back creates an altercation in the grocery store – where Casey steps in as her white-knight. Except he doesn’t slay dragons, he is one!!
There is a problem amongst the dragons, who must keep their existence a secret. As things heat-up between Evangeline and Casey, can their two worlds work together? This is a complete story – but part of a series, which I am greatly looking forward to!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
What a great start to a new series. Chase seems to be the serious one amongst his fellow shifters, trying to keep them focused. When he meets Evangeline he doesn’t expect the swift attraction that he feels. He is sure he can never have a mate, because of the war coming their way. Can Evangeline change his mind? Will they all come together as a clan finally? I look forward to reading more about the other shifters. A great book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Casey is in town to find and bring his best friend and clanmate back to the pack. His father wants him home to begin training as future leader of the dragon clan, and so has tasked Casey with this job! So that’s what he’s going to do, along with two others (I get the impression he doesn’t really know these guys all that well) so why he had to stop an altercation between a guy and his girlfriend he wasn’t sure. Oh yes he does, his dragon wanted to be near her (not a usual occurrence!) And after he scares the dude off, he’s left alone with the cute little human, now what?! Evangeline has her grandfather to thank for her love of art and from there tattoos, she owns her own shop and loves what she does. What she doesn’t love anymore is her ex!! So when the skanky ex boyfriend steals her grandfather’s signet ring, she had no option but to meet up with him. Surely she can reason with him? The idiot all but accuses her of being crazy, and wants them to be together again, he tries to pull her out of the store she arranged to meet him in. The only person to help her is a stranger. But boy what a stranger, the man was huge!!! First book in a new series. This usually sets the story, and this author is good at doing that . So...... Casey sets about trying to convince Gavin (the wayward son) to come home, whilst trying to keep his dragon from hunting down the cutie in the store. Talk about multitasking! Gavin and Casey were best friends until he left the clan, leaving Casey on his own, he’s missed his friend, but was annoyed that Gavin didn’t tell him he was going (just up and left!) His dragon wants a mate! He’s in no position to agree, he never thought he’d have one anyway, but with a war coming it wouldn’t be fair or safe to take on a mate, plus she is human, so shifters and humans? A big no no! But you try telling that to his dragon! The ongoing attraction between Casey and Evangeline is fun to read. He thinks in terms of a quick fling, both Evangeline and his dragon think otherwise! I like Evangeline, she was a very independent, fun filled woman. Quick to love (a little too quick sometimes) and loyal to a fault. We meet his crew (Dillon and Erik) the wayward son (Gavin), and the dragon king Zander is on his way! We get a little background on them all, so you have to wonder if these are the characters for the next series? So.... will Casey convince his dragon to leave Evangeline alone? Can he get his best friend to come home? And can he keep Dillon and Erik from wrecking the town and from people discovering there are real dragons? I can’t wait to see who is next in this series. And I can’t wait to see what happens next.
🦋I received this book for an honest review and all thoughts are my own.
Emilia Hartley has written a 5-star book. Casey, Dillon, and Erik have been sent to bring Galvin back and they have 3 months to do it. If they don't then Zander will come and take things into his own hands. The three are in the grocery store when Casey sees Evangleine and his dragon goes on high alert. Evangline sees Casey and she thinks he is hot but she doesn't have time for a new man right now. She is doing her shopping when she hears a voice that she doesn't want to hear. The voice is Trevor, he walks up to her and asks "if she was ready to work things out?" He said he was ready to forgive her. "Forgive her?" For what" she asked. Trevor tells her for kicking him out of his own house. Evangline tells him that she is not taking him back and that he screwed up and he knows it but just doesn't want to admit it. He grabs her arm and starts to pull her to the exit of the store saying they need to take it outside. Casey's dragon is ready to come to the surface and he goes looking for Evangline and he sees Travor grab her. He picks up the fruit that she dropped and chucks it at Travor saying "I think you dropped this." Casey hits Travor in the face and the fruit breaks and juice runs down his face. This allows Evangline to get out of Travor's grasp and she backs up away from him. Trevor leaves and Evangline thanks him and she asks him a question and he answers. They continue to shop and they go to the checkout where Casey buys her stuff along with some candy for her. She gives him her business card and tells him that it is good for one free tattoo. Evangline feels something for Casey and she is not sure why. She wants to get to know him. Casey knows that he should leave Evangline alone since the problems he knows is coming if he can't get Galvin to go home to his father. Casey, Dillon, and Erik are there to get Galvin and they only have 3 months to do it. Things start to heat up between Evangline and Casey. Nellie, Evangeline's friend, and business partner is not happy that she is getting together with Casey. She is a witch and she knows the are trouble. Can Casey keep away from Evangline to protect her of will they get together? Will Evangline figure out what Casey is before her time is up and get to be with him? This book was a wonderful read and I would recommend it to anyone

This is the first book in the Rogue Dragons series and we get to know a fair bit about a bunch of characters - including the romantic couple - but the main storyline ends on a cliffhanger that I feel will run throughout the series until the final book. Casey and Evangeline who - despite trying to avoid a relationship - eventually give in to the instant attraction between them and find love and passion. Evangeline had a wonderful connection with her grandfather who helped inspire her career choice and let her be her creative self, she has a history of dating the wrong men and is full of self doubts in that area but eventually shows a bit of feistiness. Casey is a big and tough dragon shifter who is also sensitive, honest, sweet, is part of a group of misfits on a mission, and is portrayed as being hurt by being left behind and forgotten - but has a sister who would come running if he needed her. I loved the variety of personalities in Casey and the misfits as well as Evangeline and her two friends and look forward to learning more about them in future books. There are a lot of emotions in this story, some danger, intrigue, mystery, a battle looming - that does not happen in this book - and amazing friends old and new. I generally prefer standalone books but so far this new series seems intriguing enough with the underlying storyline and the different and interesting friends and misfits that I will definitely continue reading.
DISTRACTING INCONSISTENCIES / SPOILERS - Being told Dillon could speak but chose not to in most situations and the others being shocked when he did BUT.. I found he was quiet but spoke about as much as the others. - In chapter four Casey worried Gavin had incinerated Erik and Dillon then a page later he is thinking if Gavin unleashed his fire it would not hurt him since they were made of the same thing BUT .. so are Erik and Dillon. - Trevor and his friends were excessively violent and dangerous so Nellie wiped their minds of what they did BUT .. nothing more is said so will he still be a threat to Evangeline?

❤️ WHAT I LIKED : The romance was kind of a slow burn mixed with insta love, I liked it. The MC didn't jump each other at first or second glance, they got to know each other a bit, get confortable with one another. The secondary characters, Dillon/Gavin/Erik and Nellie/Isabella were all interesting in their own way, the author presents them to us bit by bit, as the story unfolds we learn a bit more about each of them but there is mystery there, just enough to get you hooked. It worked for me, because I now I really want to learn about each characters background especially the guys since they are the ones with the most issues.
There was some humor, light banter, a few fights, and near the end there is angst and action. Overall, I wasn't bored with this story. Sure, I'll admit I skipped a few pages here and there when I got bored from reading about the little things, but other than that I enjoyed this story enough to wanna read the second book.
There are two plots going on in this book : the first one involves the heroine and her asshole ex, and the second one will be an ongoing plot throughout the series regarding Gavin's dad and the danger they'll face when he finally shows up, but clearly this won't be happening until all the guys have their mates (I think).
❌WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE : I was a little bored at times, but it was more me and my state of mind rather than the book, so it won't impact my rating.
‼️WARNINGS : No triggers. There is some violence and angst at times, but nothing gory or dark. It's a safe read.
🔸Would I recommend this book? Sure. If you enjoy paranormal romances between shifters (dragons in this case) and human women then you might enjoy this book. It's a pretty easy read, with basically no drama apart from the Ex, and Gavin's temper.
🔸Will I re-read it? I don't know, maybe, but not in the near future.
🔸Will I read anything else from this author? Yep, I'm already planning on reading the second book about Dillon and Isabella.
Casey, Elliott and Dillon are dragon shifters that have been sent by their Alpha Zander, to bring home his son, Gavin. He has given them three months to convince him to return home or they are to kill him. Casey used to be Gavins best friend, and he felt betrayed when he left with no explanation at all. He is mad and hurt but is surprised to find Gavin so hostile. He has build himself a nice cabin in the mountains, but is still hurting about something and clearly loosing control of his dragon. When Casey and the other two go into town to buy food, Casey is immediately drawn to a beautiful woman. She is being dragged out of the store by her ex. Casey chases him off and when he is sure she is alright he leaves. Evangeline is immediately drawn to Casey and as she tries to thank him for saving her, he leaves. She barely has time to shove one of her cards at him and offer him a free tatoo anytime.
Casey can't forget Evangeline but figures he needs to stay away from her because humans and dragons don't mix, but also because he has more problems then he can handle right now. As he and Gavin finally get a chance to talk, he realized that Zander doesn't really care if they bring Gavin back or not because he doesn't want any of the four back. He wants them all dead. He knows that he needs to stay away from Evangeline. Fate has other plans because he can't stay away from her. And as they spend time together she realizes there is more to "the boys" on the mountain than meets the eye. Her assistant at work is a witch so she is aware there is more out there than most people know about. Can she figure out what Casey's secret is ?
This is book 1 of a series and it's a great start! I can't wait to read the next one!

🐲🐲ONE THRILLING JOURNEY🐲🐲 Damnable dragon! Emilia unleashes one helluva a storm, baring this kickass heroin with a vengeance to deliver and a score to settle, ramping this baby up with such exuberance and vigor, blasting this bad boy to life spectacularly. Dubious events and annoying exigencies, showcase the arduous trials and thrilling triumphs, stumbling through the stunning twists and wicked turns, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they could have never anticipated. Traversing a minefield of daring drama, intense situations, damning secrets, perilous intrigue, unfolding revelations, escalating danger and spiraling suspense, unmasking the cunning manipulations of vicious iniquity, heinous deeds and malicious intents, propelling this baby to a whole new level. Disadvantages are heightened and expanded, exposing the harsh facts, deadly deals and daring debacles, igniting a fierce determination with such intensity and precision, shifting this baby into overdrive, slamming it into a tailspin with an astonishing culmination. The attraction and chemistry sizzles from the pages and draw you in so deeply until you feel the heat and electricity thrumming through your veins. The characters are realistic, genuine and complex with qualities and traits that add depth and diversity, blending into amazing personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you can just reach out and touch it. Fantastic job Emilia, thanks for sharing the little gem with us.
Casey and two of his brethren have been sent to retrieve Gavin, the heir apparent of their dragon shifter clan, from his self-imposed exile in the mountains. When Gavin makes it clear that he's not keen on leaving, Casey could wash his hands clean of the situation, but he's got a new reason to stick around. A chance meeting with a pink-haired tattoo artist has left him enchanted. Evangeline promised him a free tattoo as thanks for chasing off her abusive ex, but Casey already knows that he'll be going to her with the hopes of getting a whole lot more than that.
This might be one of the first times I've seen where the H was so obviously insecure. Yes, Casey was a big, powerful dragon shifter and had a commanding presence, but he assumed that everyone would abandon him in the end. He didn't view himself as being of any importance to other people. It was hard for him to believe that his human tattoo artist would stay with him once she realized what his world was really like. Meanwhile, Evangeline had been caught in a cycle of escaping one bad relationship just to start an even worse one. The intense attraction to Casey made her fear that she was falling back into her old habits. Perhaps more than any of the other characters, these two needed to find someone who'd love them unconditionally. I think it's great that they were the ones to kick off this series.
There's hints of who the sequel could focus on and I'm already exciting to see how their story will play out.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the first book in the new Rogue Dragons series and I hope the ones that follow are just as good. Casey is tasked with finding his best friend to bring the heir home. Casey is determined that he and a couple of other dragons are going to get this done quick so he can go back to his life. When he runs across Evangeline in trouble with her ex, he helps her and his whole world changes. She is a local tattoo artist and a bright person in many ways. The attraction is instant and very confusing to Casey. His mind tells him he cannot be with a human and must return to his regular life. His dragon is not having it. His dragon knows that Evangeline is his and will have to convince Casey to claim her. There are a lot of details in this story to start the series out. The storyline is well written with lots of drama, mystery, emotions all over the place and of course love. Evangeline deserves and is worthy of having a strong dragon and man in her life. But Casey had to convince himself that he can actually be that worthy dragon and man. I enjoyed the characters and writing in this book. I look forward to the next one in the Rogue Dragons series

>Book Review – Trusting the Betrayed >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Rogue Dragons series and ends in an HFN. Casey is one of 3 dragons sent to retrieve the King dragon’s son. The story suffers from a lack of backstory about everything. Casey has feeling of abandonment, but no explanation as to why. He has a sister, so he has family. No exes were mentioned that left him. His fellow dragons had interesting personalities. They seemed more developed than Casey. >Evangeline is a unique woman who runs a tattoo parlor. Once again, no backstory is given beyond a bad breakup with a crazy ex. She is described as being used to pain, but no reason as to why. He BFF is a witch. Evangeline is human and seems to accept witches. Dragons seem to be a secret to humans. The author does not explain if in this reality humans realize supernatural beings exist. >This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 3 stars. I loved the relationship between Casey and Evangeline. Casey was such a gentle giant. I just needed more background in to this world and its characters to make the story deeper.
Evangeline Abercrombie had had bad luck with men and with a new chance ahead she was doubting her choices, but the mystery man made her feel special and wanted for herself. Casey was feeling unimportant and useless. He was doing his duty but after he met her, feelings and emotions were confusing him and making him yearn for more. When he realized what was behind the mission that he had thought was important, he was ready to fight for what mattered most for him. Liked Casey's character, his control and the way he was dealing and trying to understand his dragon mates' issues. What had happened in their clan? Why the awful reputation? Also, Erik was a complete mystery even for his friends and the witch with her secrecy seemed more gifted than what Evangeline had thought. Looks like we will have mysteries and surprises for long with these misfit dragons defending their own. Action, suspense, exciting fights, banter, mystery, secrets, dragons, a wicked ex, bad intentions, good secondary characters, violence, romance and passion.
"Dragon" her away from an abusive ex. Evangeline is an artist, a tattoo artist. She wants nothing to do with her abusive ex. But that overgrown coward that likes to hurt her stole her grandfather's ring and she is determined to get it back. So, she agrees to meet him in a public place. But that doesn't matter, he grabs her and starts dragging her away. Casey, a dragon shifter sees this small woman being grabbed and runs to her rescue. Afterward Evangeline is extremely thankful. But Casey just wants to leave. The girl is safe, he doesn't need accolades. He doesn't need to tell her his name. They're not going to see each other ever again. But, whoa...that was something major chemistry. I mean the air just sizzled. But time to move on, or is it. This book had such fantastc characters, one helluva storyline and explosive dynamics. This is an incredible book by an incredible author. Don't miss the opportunity to read the first book in this series. I'm sure the next installment will be phenomenal, it's just how this author writes.
TRUSTING THE BETRAYED (Rogue Dragons Book 1), by Emilia Hartley is the first installment and a good start to her new series, Rogue Dragons.
Casey and two misfits have been sent to retrieve their king's heir who does not want go home. They soon figure out this won't be an easy or quick assignment.
It doesn't take Casey long to find a maiden to rescue. On a beer run, Casey noticed a pretty lady in the store he can't help stepping forward. For some reason he is really attracted to this human, but now is not the time he has a job to do.
Evangeline just wants her father's ring back from her ex-boyfriend who took it. When her ex starts getting abusive a big stranger steps up and tosses ex out the grocery store door.
The characters were easy to get to know. The story was a simple one with the usual bad guys and good guys, damsels to save and save you.
I turned the pages until suddenly, there were no more to turn

When Casey was tasked to retrieve his dragon clan leader's rogue son, he didn’t expect to find his mate among humans. He felt unworthy and questioned the reasons why his leader chosen him and two other “weirdos” to perform the task. However, he soon discovered the four of them had formed their clan in the mountain where the cabin is located. On the other hand, Evangeline, a tattoo artist, finally found a man worthy of her trust after a big disappointment, although her bizarre friend, Nellie, preferred to avoid these dragons since she was a witch.
Emilia Hartley gave us a wonderful beginning of a new series. This book had fantastic and well-structured characters, within an epic fictional plot full of mystery, hidden secrecy, danger, surprise, sweet banter, passion, and romance. Now and again, you found a book that engaged you until the end. I cannot wait for the next chapter of this series.

This was a good start to a new series. Casey was sent by his clan leader to find his best friend and the heir to the clan, but he wasn't expecting to find his mate. Evangeline isn't sure she's ready to trust a new man after her latest disastrous relationship, but this new man in her life is drawing her in. Evangeline was strong in her own way, she is coming to the realization that she had been trying to change herself to fit what her boyfriend wanted without getting much in return. Casey is so different, he shows he cares in the little things. The story had a good flow to it, enough action to keep it moving, but really it was more about Casey and Evangeline building something together.
The book set a nice base to build the rest of the series on. The supporting characters were introduced, but didn't completely take over the story. It will be nice to see this clan continue to grow in the coming books.
Both MCs were incredibly whiny. The cover shows this strong looking alpha male. What we got inside was someone who was depressed and whiny. The FMC was worse. She was a stage 5 clinger with codependency issues who fell in love with him after 5 mins and by the 3rd 5 min meeting was talking about him building them a house. And I quote, "Evangeline had been careful. She’d waited for the signs to show up, for the red flags that all her exes had displayed. So far, none of them had appeared. Sure, Casey seemed like a brute, but he was also a giant sweetheart." This was literally after she had met him for maybe the 3rd time, and each time spending 5 mins tops in his prescence until they ate hamburgers together for an hour? She also keeps complaining about her bad taste in men, but is willing to get naked with a stranger after just meeting... I honestly didn't see any chemistry between either of them. Also, Gavin, seems super emo as well. Not the brooding, swoony type, but just emo. Won't be continuing with this series.
Absolutely loved this book. Casey and Evangeline where not what I expected. He and 2 other “misfit” dragon shifters have been sent to bring back their clan leaders son Gavin so he can take over as leader some day. Evangeline is a tattoo artist with colourful hair and has just gone through a bad break up and thinks nobody sees her. Casey definitely sees her but he thinks no-one could love him and he is better alone. He justs wants to get the job done and go back to being alone. When Casey rescues Evangeline from her abusive ex in a supermarket they can’t stop thinking about each other. And although he keeps telling himself not to get involved he can’t keep away. Casey is not your typical dragon shifter he is a big softy and together they bring out the best in each other and both their insecurities are blown away. I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait for the next instalment. I received this ARC from the Author in return for a fair and honest review.
This is a NON-SPOILER Review. Trusting the Betrayed by Emilia Hartley is the first book in her amazing new series Rogue Dragons. It has been a while since I've read an Emilia Hartley story and after reading Trusting the Betrayed, I must say that I have missed her storytelling. I loved this feel good read! I have just made friends with Evangeline (a tattoo artist), Casey (a sexy shifter), Gavin (the grumpy shifter), Dillon (the not so mute shifter), Erik (the troubled shifter), Nellie (the witch) and Isabella (the waif) and I am well on my way to wanting to be part of the clan! For anyone that has not read an Emilia Hartley read before, prepare to become emotionally invested and highly addicted to her writing. For everyone... this is a sweet, steamy, laugh-out-loud read that will have you craving more!

Evangeline just wants a simple life as a Tattoo Palour owner and artist after her abusive Ex Trevor MacFarlane stole the only thing that mattered to her is her grandfather’s signet ring she always wore around her neck. Now she wants it back and he agrees to meet and return it but that’s not what he wanted at all he wanted to make her hurt and attacks her but a tall sexy stranger saves her but doesn’t leave his name. Evangeline feels an connection to this man and he feels the same way and cannot stay away. Casey is a dragon shifter heir trying to help others as well as trying to find a place to fit in. Now with other dragons coming down from the mountain home for him to take him back they find themselves crossing paths with humans and one special one that Casey has the hots for Evangeline. Can they come together and be a clan that they all so desperately want or does it all fall apart.

This is a great first book in the series. We get to know the players, the conflict coming and how these guys fit so well together as a clan. Of course, they all have issues. The worst being Gavin, the alpha's son, who left his father's land and found him a spot on a mountain to claim. Casey sent by Zander, Gavin's father, to retrieve Gavin and bring him home, Eric, a dragon with an identity crisis and Dillion, the sweetest, silent type you could meet. All of them misfits in the clan. This is their chance for a real life. This first story is Casey and Evangeline's beginning. This is a terrific story and if you like your heroes a bit damaged and their woman strong and caring, this is the book for you. I requested a free advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.
This is the first book in the Rogue Dragons series by Emilia Hartley. It's got all the good stuff we expect from her stories. We have out brooding alpha Casey who tells himself to walk away from the sexy tattoo artist while at the same time he can't help being drawn to her. Especially since her abusive ex keeps threatening her. And we have our damsel in distress Evangeline who has shown terrible taste in men so knows she should be wary of her irresistibly attractive savior. To say these two have combustible chemistry is putting it mildly.
There is a whole secondary story that happens adjacent to our love story. We have some difficulties in our dragon clan where friendship will be put to the test. This story is not resolved and will be continued in the next book(s). There's a whole other cast of characters who we meet and I can't wait until they get their own time to shine.
Big bad dragon shifter and talented tattoo artist. Evangeline never has any luck with her boyfriends. Trevor, the one she just recently kicked out, came on to her best friend and then stole a treasured ring she got from her deceased grandfather. While meeting Trevor in a public place to demand the ring back, he becomes verbally abusive and tried to grab her and take her. But a hot man named Casey stops him and the next day shows up at her tattoo shop. And he seems to be trying to protect her against Trevor. But he has problems of his own. He is trying to help several friends going through difficulties, and her friend Nellie is afraid of Casey and his friends. She disappears every time they come into the tato0 shop. But why? Trusting the Betrayed is the first book in the series and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
I love the characters in this story, Casey comes in as a loner and leave with not only friends but his mate. Evangeline is a talent artist that is just getting out of a bad relationship but is drawn to Casey and his friends. This story will take you not only the emotional journey of Casey and Evangeline as they navigate what they mean to each other, but you can feel the pain of Gavin as he is healing from his own loss of his heart.
This story has left we wondering that there has to be more to Gavin's story and hope it is unveiled in the next books. This was a great book, leaving you wanting more.

I liked the book, the idea of the story and the characters seem very interesting.
However, I would have liked more background information on the main characters. Casey: such a gentle, good and strong man. Why does he think no one wants him? What happened in the past? Evangeline: it is often repeated that she always chooses bad men and what bad experiences she has had. What led to Evangeline's bad experiences? What happened to her? Both characters are repeatedly portrayed as strong, then there are passages in which they seem very whiny. These are often repeated but not elaborated on.
The other characters, especially the men, were very promising. All in all, it ist a sweet story and easy read but I would have liked more background information and details in the story.
I will certainly read the next books as I like the story itself and want to know what happens to the other characters. Maybe the author will go into more detail there and we will find out more.
Great first in the series. I completely fell in love with these characters. Evangeline was adorable and strong all at the same time. Casey was helpless when it came to keeping his distance from her. He had a mission and she was not part of it. However, their chemistry could not be ignored. These four 'misfits' feel as if they don't belong anywhere, that they have no real use. What if where they belong is with each other. The story has action, drama and romance. These dragons each have their own issues. Watching them build somewhat of a Clan, and except Evangeline as part of that, was the root of this book. I'm sure amazing things will come for the group. I am on the edge of my seat for book two.

Casey, Erik, and Dillon were on a doomed-to-fail mission because they were considered disposable by their leader. Evangeline is still reeling from the end of her latest and worst relationship. When they meet they simply cannot ignore each other. Casey is only in town to retrieve his missing best friend and doesn't think anyone can care for him. He meets an intriguing human woman who fascinates him. As they go about trying to find balance in their lives they are surprised that together they are centered.
