A world descending into war; a fabled healer who might be their last, best hope; and a princess imprisoned in a dragon-guarded keep.

Lynette sets out with Baxter and Eirlon in search of a healer: the fabled Medicine Man of Horru. It is a desperate gamble to revive the fae king and avert a larger war.

But the route they take will prove perilous. They risk losing everything, even each other, in a world gone mad with the stirrings of war. Armies have gathered on the borders of the Feyfell - lured by legends of fae wealth. With King Elyan poisoned and unconscious, the kingdom is visible, and vulnerable to outside invaders for the first time in centuries. And while the fae nobles debate rules of succession, Princess Elise remains missing.

For in a tower a world away, the fae princess is held captive, surrounded by armies and a dragon chained to the will of vengeful sorceress. Drained of her magic, Elise must plot her own escape - while a new breed of assassins hunts the mage-turned-swordsman named Garth. Werewolves prowl the land again, as all alike seek to strike their bargains before the oncoming war.

Will it be too much for Lynette to bear? Can she survive the loss of so much she holds dear? And if she does, will she ever be the same? For who among them would dare ascend, to retrieve hope from a dragon-guarded keep.

My first attempt at writing a Fantasy novel occurred decades ago - when I was still a student in high school. To say that the resulting book was awful would be too kind, and it was disposed of soon afterwards. From that experience, however, I gained a better appreciation for the elements that would be needed to produce a successful novel - including the persistence to see such an undertaking to its conclusion.

In the intervening years, life happened: university, jobs, marriage, kids. I never completely ceased writing, but I also had neither the time nor motivation to launch another novel. I did, however, have a non-fiction book (a history text - some 400+ pages, hardbound) that I gradually polished and rounded out - which was eventually published through a traditional, printed publishing house. The latter experience further solidified my conviction that I indeed could undertake a novel again - should I choose to do so.

It was my three daughters, however, who reintroduced me to the world of Fantasy-Fiction. Literature was something that the four of us could share, discuss and compare - together with other fantasy and literary influences. I was able to introduce some of my old favorites to my daughters, and they in turn, introduced me to some of theirs.

It was this latter experience, sharing and discussing stories and literature, that convinced me to try my hand at writing Fantasy-Fiction once again: weaving together tales and ideas that had been circulating across my mind for decades. I hope that the resulting stories and characters are as fun to read as they were for me to write.

Review: I really liked this book! I thought the author greatly improved in writing from the first two books and the plot and story benefitted so much from that growth. The character development and world building was also so much better.

However, there’s still a lot of work to do and I think another round of editing and filling in the story and developing side characters would make the story much much better.

Verdict: I think this is a good story!

Having read this book WAY after reading books 1 and 2 in the series – through no fault of the author, definitely mea culpa – I can definitely state that not only do you need to read this series in order, but you should also read the books fairly close together.

This is a complicated plot with a lot of characters and a lot going on, and this third book is bringing it all together towards an eventual climax (not in this story – there is more to come!). There is a princess and a dragon, scholars and healers, soldiers, vampires (moroi), fae, gnomes and goblins, zombies (kehereth, werewolves and more.

As well of plenty of magic, intrigue, battle and betrayal, there is also a blossoming romance between main characters Lynette and Baxter, who have both come a long way since we first met them in Storm’s Herald.

J.W. Golan has built an epic fantasy world in this series, and each instalment ramps up the tension and raises the stakes, making this story epic not only in genre but also in length, complexity and content.

The main plot remains unresolved at the end of this book and I can assure you that when the fourth book is released, I will definitely be re-reading books 1-3 before diving straight in… I need that running start to keep up!

This definitely grabs your attention from the outset. I've enjoyed following Lynette, Baxter and Eirlon over the last two books, and getting to continue their adventures with them has been a delight. I think to really appreciate the full depth of the world and characters you need to start with the previous stories in the series. Although the princess kept trapped in a tower guarded by a dragon can be a bit cliché, I loved Golan's twist on it. There's a lot on the line, and you'll be turning pages, wanting to know what's coming next. Definitely recommend for fantasy adventure lovers!

This is the 1st book I've read written by J.W. Golan; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.

This is the third book in the Stormfall Chronicles; he has written a good book with interesting characters.

I was very excited to return back to the world, but in the end, was a little bit disappointed. Maybe my expectation was a bit too high. The author created an intriguing world, filled with magic, magical creatures, and all thing that make the fantasy book awesome.

Lynette, Baxter, and Eirlon set out again, to find a healer, in a desperate hope to stop the larger war. It's a lovely continuation of the story, but it wasn't as good as the first one (that one is by far my favorite). I had a hard time connecting to the characters and care about them.

The world created and the storytelling are awesome and show great potential, the story just might need a bit of polishing, to tighten up the storyline.

I'm not finished

But I'm unhappy. Your story mostly is lined out. But still the only character you developed in any depth was Garth. None of the others. I did not believe your characters. Whatshername is lame. She can't do squat. He friend the skinny one has more guts and insight than she does. Wht aren't all of them protecting with their growth and illusion. Are all incompetent other than her buddy. Why does she love the boy, just because he isn't a farm boy has some competence. Is brave. That's not enough. You haven't given your characters enough reason for me to belie in them. Which trashes your story. You do have all the good story point. But like the old general you still are not pulling it through. People have to care in truth. Not just a couple of words here and there. Just because you say someone was affected by his bravery. Isn't enough. You can't establish character with a couple of sentences or just one. Awesome story. But no heart no people no friendships no teamwork. No love. You can't create that in short spats separated by long spans. A few words if not said perfectly do not create feeling understanding. I'm sorry the only reason I'm complaining is because you are so close to nailing it. You aren't done these book are not done. They are drafts. They could be top of books. I hope you do

After reading the entire book, book 3 in the series, it is amazing! Each book builds, a slow burn, yet each having a great plot, solid story line and well developed characters who we keep learning more about. Just as we do new friends who then, over time, become old, close friends.
I have never failed to gasp, laugh out loud, cry, care about the characters and stay up way too late turning pages to see what happens next. If one enjoys magic, fantasy, well written and developed stories, the Stormfall Chronicles has become my favorite series.
