The last relationship Pilar was in almost got her killed. She escaped and rebuilt her life, but she was left with a healthy distrust of men, especially sexy, confident men who could disarm her with a smile and a self deprecating joke.

Jack spent his life making people laugh. It was the only way to keep the darkness away. If people were laughing, they weren’t looking too deep inside. He could hide behind the jokes just as easily as he could hide behind the scope of his sniper rifle. In the shadows where no one would see more of him than he was willing to expose.

Jack promised himself he wouldn’t get close to a woman again, but when he’s tasked with keeping Pilar safe, he can’t resist the pull toward her. Not only is she curvy and beautiful, but she’s strong and fearless, and not willing to sit on the sidelines while he protects her from the dangerous men who are hunting her and her brother.

He has to keep her safe, even if that means keeping the truth from her.

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Mary E Thompson spent most of her childhood wishing she had a few less curves. She hid in the pages of books because her favorite characters never cared what size her clothes were. Now, neither does Mary, and she writes stories that celebrate women like her. Real women who have curves, chase dreams, and find love, because we should all be happy, no matter our dress size.
Mary spends her non-writing time with her husband and two kids, watching too much TV, cheering for her hometown football team (Go Bills!), and hiding chocolate from her family.

Curvy and beautiful Pilar had been in a relationship with a bad guy who almost got her killed but she escaped and rebuilt her life but has a residual distrust of men - especially those who lie. Jack has spent his life being the joker and making people laugh as a way to keep the darkness away, but in real life, he hides behind the scope of his sniper rifle in the shadows where no one can see him. He promised himself that he would not get close to a woman but when he is tasked to keep Pilar safe he can't resist the pull to her even though his job is to protect her from the people hunting for her and her brother. Can he keep her safe even though he needs to keep the truth from her?

I enjoyed this story with the strong and sassy Pilar and the strong and determined Jack. I loved her need for honesty and the way that they both reacted after everything came out. It was wonderful to hear Jack be so honest and open about his feelings which were definitely not something he was used to doing. The team and the guys (with their partners) have definitely become an extended family and that definitely became more obvious as the story unfolded and developed. It's great to see such strong men be so open about feelings. Easy to read and understand. A very believable plot that the reader could become invested into. Contains lots of mature content for adult readers.

There isn't anything more satisfying then a man determined never to get into a relationship fall. They fall hard.
When Pilar's brother was taken by the cartel F-Bomb stepped in to keep her safe and to find Juan. Jack was determined to keep her safe. Things weren't so random. When the truth comes out will Pilar understand.
Excellent romantic suspense. Keeps you turning pages until the end. I highly recommend the series. Each is a standalone, but since characters cross over best read in order.
