THE REVIEW FOR THE BOOK THE NIGHT THAT CHANGED RACHEL BY GAIL HARIS

GENRE:CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
AUTHOR:GAIL HARIS.
TYPE: BOOK #2 OF THE RANDALL BUT CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE.
POV: FIRST PERSON...SINGLE POV.
MY RATING: 5 STARS...

This is a second installation in THE RANDALLS series which focus on TRENT AND RACHEL's story...
*******************
****
Rachel has always been infatuated with her best friend Landan's big brother TRENT...but due to there age gap of 4 years Trent didn't dare to reciprocate her feelings... When she was 16...at a college party ...she lost her virginity to Trent who after she confesses her love rejects her.
After the tragic death of Landan...Both of them try to find solace in each other...But no one could have guessed that night will change both of their forever...

Trent Randall should come with a warning. Do not attempt this ride if you suffer from a heart condition. The anticipation before the ride begins is both exhilarating and terrifying. I know he’s going to take me to new heights and then send me crashing down

If I could ..I would have give this book more than 5 stars...the author has successfully written a very realistic and relatable romance story. The main character both are going through a very tragic loss but as we progress in the story ..they both learn to move on... I love that we got to see some of ALICE AND NOAH in here...
This book was a real tear-jerker and a page-turner...some scenes made me cry and some made me laugh...all the choices taken by the FMC was so realistic...
Overall..this was a journey of a girl who made some bad choices but are not afraid to face their consequences.
The relationship between Trent and Rachel was really full of ups and down but they lived through it together.
Author Gail Haris has touched some sensitive issues with grace through the journey of both these characters...
I just can't wait to see more of them in the upcoming books of this series...

Copy received from The Next Step PR and I am reviewing it voluntarily and objectively.

Where can I start with this book? If I thought Who is Sarah Randall was an emotional ride, I didn’t know the true meaning of those words until this book. As always, the author pours emotions from the book. Most of this read, my stomach was in knots over the angst, the unknown, and the want.

Best friend’s older brother/brother’s best friend with an age gap...and a twist! It’s the best of all worlds. Landon Randall, as we know, died at the end of the previous book. His best friend, Rachel, is moving on slowly. Everyone assumes she would have ended up with Landon, but really it was his older brother, Trent, who she really loved. This book isn’t the first they engage in the forbidness of each other, as they had previous hook-ups before. She’s loved him forever but believes he views her as nothing more than a convenient lay. Through the book, we learn what he truly thinks about her.

This is really the source of the angst and emotion. It’s a bit of a push-pull, where she wants him, he now can be with her, but needs to show her that he does truly care about her. She’s protective of herself - for good reason.

One of their nights together led into more, making up most of the story and even more of the emotional angst that I just so love about this novel. I won’t say what to avoid spoilers.

Like the first book in this series, this one too is an experience that needs to happen. The author writes in such a realistic way that makes me feel as if I am Rachel. I smiled, I cried, I worried alongside her.

And again with this novel, the author does such a fantastic job with all the side characters. Landon plays a part, but not in an annoying-always-mentioned way; we get the fun and calm side of Alice this time; and more of Denise. Looking forward to her book.

Can I give this book more than 5 stars? Because it needs it! Trent and Rachel were so REAL. Real life events, with realistic feelings and real life solutions. But it was still a fantastic get away from the stress of the real world.

We saw glimpses of both Trent and Rachel in the previous book, Who is Sarah Randall. I was so excited when I saw Rachel was getting her own book. And boy was I not disappointed - I needed this book! This coming of age romance was written just right that showed Rachel in a light that, while she was only seventeen, she could handle adult situations. Her age and maturity level was shown throughout the book that didn’t make it unnecessary drama. But good drama that made the book and made me not able to put it down! I read this story in one day!

You definitely need to read the first book in the series for the full picture of why Rachel is how she is. And to better connect with her on a deeper level. This book had a little angst to make you feel lots of things... ALL the things! And those angsts moments, Rachel overcame those and grew into this beautiful, inspiring woman. Trent and his family are such kind souls and I loved seeing more of Richard and Melissa.

I’m walking away from this book feeling so happy! I’m on a book high that will quickly become a book hangover. I was intrigued from the very start and I highly recommend everyone gets on this ride for Rachel and Trent’s amazing story. Definitely going to be a recommendation and requirement of my book friends! I can’t wait to read about Denise’s story.

At the end of Book #1, we read and cried as we watched the Randall family suffer another tragedy just when things were finally looking up for them. For Rachel, her whole life was shattered as her best friend/beard was suddenly gone and she had no-one in her life she could turn too as her strong connection to the Randall family had been broken, for her anyway. Graduating early as she needs to get away from their smalltown, Rachel is ready to head to college and room with Alice Randall. During the last week of school, there is a bonfire party that she gets wasted and ends up sleeping with Trent Randall - her longtime crush and Landon's older brother. Of course, if only sleeping with Trent was easy as he has an on/off again long-time girlfriend and she hates Rachel. What happens though when Rachel discovers her life is about to change when a test comes back positive? Will she take the easy route and way out and lie that it's Landon's or will she confront Trent and tell him the truth? What happens though when a new guy friend Jonah is added to the mix? Where do Rachel's feelings lie and who will she pick in her time of need? Find out in another great installment of The Randalls series by Gail Haris.

The Night That Changed Rachel is my first book by Gail Haris, and that’s a sad thing that I’d like to remedy. Now assuming that you wanna know why I’d like to remedy that (just go with the flow), here’s why:

1) Emotions, oh so many emotions, but they aren’t all over the place, they aren’t out of control, in fact, they are neatly stacked and dealt with, maturely, something that I crave for in a NA novel but seldom encounter.

2) We have teenagers acting maturely and taking responsibility: surprise surprise! Another thing I miss in most books, I know teenagers could be whinny and emo, heck I was one! But I also remember making better decisions, being more present in the now and taking other’s emotions in to account growing up. Teenagers deserve much more credit than we give em, and this book shows that!

3) My unhealthy obsession with naive, innocent heroines who refuse to be doormats and “Mary Sues” and know when they need to stick up for themselves and choose their battles accordingly and stick with their decisions and the consequences that come with those decisions aka Rachel.

4) A healthy dose of drama and romance, not having to put up with an assh*** of a hero (Trent’s a sweetheart), a wonderful entourage of side characters and a few insects 🙄!

5) An engaging, uplifting story line, that makes you believe that things don’t always have to end up going south, there’s always a silver lining, as long as the door of communication and understanding is open, there’s hope.

For readers like me, I’d suggest that you read book one first. I read it as an ARC in exchange for an honest review so wanted to finish this one first but it took me sometime to get in to the flow of things, though with time, everything started making sense, but again, I could only imagine the experience of having read the first one and then this, so start from the... well the start 😬.

Happy Reading Friends.

Absolute Perfection

Wow...Where do I even begin? This book, man it had my emotions all over the place. I don't have the words to do this book justice at all. It was that amazing. Rachel struggles so much with not only the loss of her bestfriend but also finding who she is without him. Only to be hit with more struggles and hard decisions to make after graduating early and heading to college. I want say more on that, I don't want to give away to much. Oh boy and then there's Trent...(fanning myself) he is just slap perfection once he pulls he's head out of his butt. Their love story has a lot of ups and down, miscommunication, and just flat out lies but it also has a lot of heart, passion, and dedication. Don't miss out on this amazing story, it's a must read. Gail is a fantastic Author and puts a lot of passion and soul into her work.

ARC gratefully received in exchange for an honest review.

A poignant story about the wreckage of love. The Night that Changed Rachel is a coming of age romance, with a bit of age gap/forbidden love trope thrown in.

The story begins with Rachel who is starting college and dealing with the lost of her best friend Landon; the boy everyone assumed she would end up with. Instead it always was the older more detached Trent Randall that was the one for her. Constantly feeling as though she was nothing more than a convenience to him, where he has been her whole world/the love of her life, Rachel begins to take the first initial steps into finally breaking from her feelings of Trent. Rachel’s misconceptions of Trent’s feelings is met with his decision to finally show her how he truly feels and his desire to start a real relationship with her. There no longer is a roadblock to their being together and Trent is intent on fighting for her. There is a fair share of push and pull, angst and drama between these two, layer with passion and devotion.

Slowly as the story unfolds the truth behind Rachel’s hesitation and a bit of deceit is unveiled. Rachel is a woman riddle with personal struggles. They say that the friends you make in college can last a lifetime and thats exactly what happens with Rachel. She leans on her new friends to help through some of her most difficult times and decision she most make. This story is a true testament that we all have of issues, but rather than going at it alone, sometimes you just need someone to hold your hand in the dark.

Gail Harris writing gives an honest and realistic portrayal of the full scope of what an enduring relationship can withstand. Given the characters age, experiences and current circumstances, Gail gives the reader a believable story line heavily packed with emotions. I can’t wait to read more in this series.

6 stars out of 5!
Captivating and addicting!
This is a coming of age romance with real stressful/hard situations however the author keeps things light yet serious with touch of humor. Honestly? It was perfect!
Now keep in mind, what I read the most is RomCom but this series?? It is absolutely amazing!

Starts where the previous book left off in the timeline. The author does recap some from last book which I love as a refresher without being excessive.

Rachel and the Randall Family had a terrible loss and all are still struggling. Even though Rachel seems to make friends everywhere, it doesn’t seem to be the same without her best friend/partner in crime. Rachel has quite a few struggles which makes you hurt for her but also want to shake her due to her stubbornness.
A young girl trying to grieve, be a college student, continue to long for Trent, then add in another big challenge that was unexpected... this girl is amazing what she goes through and how she can come out stronger in the end.

I felt so many pulls on my heartstrings throughout with such a large variety of emotions. The character is relatable and the issues are real. I can’t tell you how much I just love this book! One you pick this up, you won’t be able to set it down, even for sleep.

I HIGHLY recommend The Night that Changed Rachel, it may just change you! 🙂

*I received this book as a gift in exchange for my honest opinion.

DISCLAIMER---Although this could probably be read as a standalone, I DO NOT recommend it. This is the second installment to a continuing story that speaks about events and situations from the first book. Yes, the author does a great job referencing these events, but it will make more sense and give you a more complete feeling by reading the first book.

Rachel is the best friend, supposed girlfriend of the middle Randall child Landon. I saw supposed because they never really dated. In fact, they came up with the deal for a number of reasons. But that deal ended up causing some serious issues for Rachel. Why? Because she's been love with Landon's brother since elementary school. And over the years and a few interesting evenings, her past relationship with Landon can jeopardize her future.

Trent is Landon's brother. He's also four years older than Rachel. So imagine watching a young girl who is your brother's best friend and girlfriend grow up in your house right in front of your eyes, having a crush on her and not being able to do anything about it. Yep. That's exactly the issue with Trent. Besides, it's not exactly legal for a twenty year old to date a seventeen year, right? Man, life is complicated.

I'm not going to go in to details about this book, but I think it's made pretty clear within the blurb that one particular night changes the lives of these two. Even though it takes a while for them to finally come to terms with what's happening, not only with Rachel, but with their lives in general, they pull it together and find the happy place they both deserve to live in....together.

This one had my feels all tangled up! A couple of crying spells! It has to be hard to lose your best friend, that when that friend is as great as Landon it takes someone extra special to fill that gap! I love the relationship that Rachel has with him.

This book takes you through a lot of emotions, you honestly still feel everything Landon’s family is going through, even though this book is about Rachel and Trent their families play a big role here too.

Denise? Poor thing, we wonder what’s going on with her. Randall scandal!

Gail did an amazing job playing with our emotions and dealing us in more and more. I honestly felt like these were my people and was ready to fight them or fight for them when the time called for it.

This book contains:
Grieving families
Postpartum and anxiety
And a beautiful HEA

I thoroughly enjoyed this 2nd installment into The Randalls series.
This installment follows the story of Rachel and Trent. It is a standalone, BUT I recommend reading Who is Sarah Randall first to be able to get the full effect. It is easy enough to follow along, with reminders and explanation of what happened in Who is Sarah Randall...but still, it never hurts to actually read in order.

This story is full of angst, of love, of every emotion!!! Trent and Rachel felt very real. Their lives, their experiences, their issues, their journey felt very relatable. It had a bit of steamy heat, too.

In a lot of angst reads, I always find myself wanting to reach into the pages and smack at least one of the characters upside the head and make them see reason. I actually didn't feel like doing that...I'm not sure yet if that is a really good thing or not. I'm leaning towards that actually being a really good thing.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading Trent and Rachel's story. It's a bit coming of age, angst, semi-friends to lovers, semi even second chance. I highly recommend!

I loved Rachel and Trent. They’ve loved each other a long time. I was ready to slap her a time or two. Lol, I wanted to scream at her. Landon’s death was still so fresh. I loved that they didn’t give up. They still included him in their lives. I love their family vibe. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

“Trent Randall should come with a warning. Do not attempt this ride if you suffer from a heart condition.”

The life of unrequited teenage love is a hard and bumpy one. Gail wrote a beautiful story of teenage angst, lust, heartache, friendship and love.
Rachel has some serious emotions and struggles to handle, and thank goodness she starts to understand and get a handle on them all in this book.

When Rachel gets to college, with the help of some new friends she thinks she can finally put her love and obsession for Trent Randall behind her, but Trent won’t allow that, and now it’s his turn to prove he is the right man for her. But will Rachel’s secret push him away, or solidify his efforts?
Such a great read!

Rachel isn't coping well after the death of Landon and the rest of the Randall's are struggling.
The night of Landon's funeral was the hardest for Trent his brother.
Landon knew her feelings for Trent and was grateful for her support thinking others would not understand him.
Another great addition to the Randall family, I can't wait to see what is in store for Denise in "The Blackmail of Denise Randall "

This book was perfect! I loved every freakin minute of Trent & Rachel! This story was real, and honest. In the beginning you could feel Rachel’s immaturity, but she quickly grew up and took charge. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow into something bigger. I loved how Gail gave us more of Landon, and Alice & Noah! I love all the characters!! Beyond excited for book 3!

I’m not sure where to begin… this book felt real like I was in the book.
Rachel graduates early and needs to get out of the small town. She’s ready for college. During the last week of school at a bonfire party she gets wasted and ends up sleeping with Trent who happens to be her long-time crush. When she decided that it was time to move on Trent doesn’t feel the same way… then he starts to show his feelings for her and wants to be with her (face palm).
The struggles that Rachel goes through are an emotional ride that that I enjoyed being on. The way the author has written this it’s amazing because it got some real-life stressful situations and but also added the perfect amount of humor to lighten the heaviness of the story.
I don’t know what is going to happen in the next one but I’m excited to read it.

This one was definitely better than the first one, I know a lot of people loved it but I just couldn’t connect a lot with Sarah/Alice and the story. I wanted to know Rachel and Trent’s story from the beginning and I really enjoyed it, I even finished it in one sitting.

Rachel is only seventeen but already in college when she finds out she’s pregnant and her whole world changes, besides she’s still depressed about the death of her best friend so she had a lot of mixed emotions but at least she had Alice, Trent and a few friends to help her.

Trent was amazing too, even though he hurt Rachel sometimes, but I loved how he always wanted to be part of the baby’s life even if he didn’t now it was his at first.

The Randall family despite all the struggles are always supporting each other and I loved how they were always there for Rachel. Now I can’t wait to read about Denise book and see how she’s doing.

This second has as MCs Trent and Rachel, the older brother and the best friend of Landon Randall, who died in an accident a few months ago, leaving a void in the hearts of his family and friends.
Rachel starts out in college and her roommate is Alice Randall( MC in the previous book) and Trent’s little sister. Rachel has graduated a year early from high school bc she couldn’t bear being there without Landon. She wants to put distance and change of scenery in order to cope better with the pain. Also this year she wants to try to forget Trent, whom she has been in love all her life. She has slept with him several times, her lost her virginity with him, and in return the only thing she has obtained is rejection and regret from Trent, partly bc the age gap between them(4 years. She is 16 and he is 20 when they slept together the first time). Now she only wants to focus on her studies, but moths later she finds out that she is pregnant. Trent wants to be there for her but she doesn’t trust him, he’s already broke her heart too many times and Maggie, Trent’s ex, who is always appears to be with him give her a hard time. Her parents are not supportive and she is afraid she won’t be able to do everything, but she has good friends who are there for her.
A good part of the book takes us step by step through Rachel’s struggles, insecurities, fears during pregnancy and motherhood.
I ❤️Jonah, I thought he could be her new Landon until things got complicated between them.
Denise, the youngest of the Randall, seems to be going through a bad time. With the death of his brother and his secret revealed, now with the pregnancy of Rachel and with the bullying she suffers from Luke’ sister( Luke is the boy who died in the accident with Landon), the next book looks like it going to be very interesting, I’m looking forward to read it.

I absolutely loved this book and these characters. I felt like I really related to Rachel having been in a toxic relationship myself, even though it was never to the extent of theirs. Anyways, I was very happy to see that they got the ending that they deserved, and I'm super excited for book 3! :)

The Night That Changed Rachel is book 2 in The Randall Series. While it could be read as a standalone, I would highly recommend you start with book 1, Who is Sarah Randall, as you get to know all the characters and truly understand the relationships and where they are all coming from.

In this book, Rachel must come to terms with her grief over the loss of her best friend, she graduates a year early so she can move away and start her new life without him in it. Only to find out, at 17 and just starting college, she is pregnant with Trent’s baby. Trent is her best friend’s brother and the man she’s been hung up on since she was a kid. There is loads of drama that ensues, Rachel’s immaturity was a huge turnoff for me! Seriously, she finally gets the guy and she’s pregnant with his baby and now she needs time to process; and goes round and round for several chapters. Upon having the baby, Rachel is left to deal with post-partum depression; I was happy to see this issue tackled and was happy she was able to get the help she needed right away. Ultimately, I enjoyed the book and I am super happy for Rachel and Trent’s happy ending!

My heart 💔

It was so hard reading this after knowing how strong Rachel & Landon’s relationship was. Literally partners in everything. The Randall’s have endured so much pain so it was bittersweet to read about Landon’s passing looming over Rachel and the Randall family and the love that was found and created in this book.

Trent tried so hard and I give him kudos for not believing what Rachel was trying to pass off as Landon’s. Rachel had a hard time believing Trent’s feelings which I get, but at the same time I wanted to switch her spots so she could see how stubborn she was being, but again—I GET IT.

I loved seeing Alice and Noah again and I cannot wait for Denise’s book.

Great read!

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I really like how this book was completely different than the first book in the series but all the main characters were the same. I did feel a bit creeped out by the fact that there is a clear age gap between Rachel and Trent. I do also understand that it was a mutual thing, however, still an iffy subject for me. I did very much enjoy this book, though. I'm anxious for the third installment. I love that everyone withstood everything and things worked out for the best! I'm still really sad about Landon but I love the comfort Rachel gets from visiting his graveside.
