Marcus Pittman is a musician, poet, and author of UNLOVABLE; a memoir about a boy grappling with identity and low self-esteem while growing up in a suburb of Cleveland, OH in the nineties. As a child, Marcus wore a pair of glasses with very thick lenses due to having poor eye sight. This feature was the predominant cause of his suffering the trauma of humiliation and rejection from peers and adults alike. Raw and unrelenting in its honesty, UNLOVABLE is a page-turner that tugs at the heart strings of its reader.
I found Mr. Pittman’s memoir quite impactful. I recognize some of his painful scenarios that are all too prevalent in communities of color and lesser privilege. I can’t help but feel this author has more to share. More about how his early education years has shaped his adult life. I believe everyone could learn from his story.
