Trusting the words a man says to me is never going to happen again. Would I like to live in blissful ignorance? Absolutely. But my eyes have been opened and I’m not falling for it again. I want to believe Gavin is different. Maybe it’s the holiday season that has me believing again, or maybe it’s him. He told me he’s not staying after he gets the inn ready to sell. He has a life, and it’s not in my small town. But I fall for his act. I accept his invite to spend the holidays with his aunt and sister and her kids. I don’t say anything when he tells them all that we’re dating. I don’t stop him when he kisses me. And when he drives me home, I invite him in and pray he never stops. I should know better than to trust a man, but he’s so good at convincing me that he’s different that I almost let myself fall for him. Never mind. I fell. I just hope he can catch me.
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Mary E Thompson spent most of her childhood wishing she had a few less curves. She hid in the pages of books because her favorite characters never cared what size her clothes were. Now, neither does Mary, and she writes stories that celebrate women like her. Real women who have curves, chase dreams, and find love, because we should all be happy, no matter our dress size. Mary spends her non-writing time with her husband and two kids, watching too much TV, cheering for her hometown football team (Go Bills!), and hiding chocolate from her family.
I did like this book, but I kept wanting to give it a kick in the fanny, as it slowed down & started to get repetitive in the last half. Gavin was so stubborn and stuck in place mentally, and it got really frustrating for me. So I liked the book, I liked the characters, but the pace was too slow and I just wanted them to get a move on.
This was a mostly-fade-to-black / not-spicy holiday romance. I haven't read any others in the series, since I acquired this through a Stuff Your Kindle Day promo for free, and I don't feel like I missed any world-building or backstory. This book did a pretty good job of being self-contained!
The small-town aspect was executed exceptionally well: this felt like a small town where everyone knows everyone's business and there'd meddling elderly folk and regulars at the local watering hole. The fake dating was more of a "well, we're not together, but we're not going to deny it, either, and you can think whatever you want" kind of fake dating, which was cute.
His Curvy Gift captures all the warm-fuzzies you want from a small-town cozy Christmas story: mistletoe kisses, cookie decorating, sleigh rides through local farms, tree-trimming, smores making, you name it.
What didn't work for me, however, was the FMC, Piper's, constant insistence she didn't want a relationship because she didn't believe happy endings were real, and her stubborn refusal to listen to her friends and family when they tried to help her get over her baggage from past relationships. Maybe it's because I just recently read Tessa Bailey's "Same Time Next Year" which also had an anti-relationship protagonist, but the attitude really grated my nerves when it was so clear that Piper was falling hard for the MMC Gavin. I also appreciate this book is called "His Curvy Gift", but I don't recall any mentions of Piper being a curvy woman. There might have been a line about thick thighs, maybe. If you're looking for plus-size rep, I don't think this is it. Otherwise, fairly enjoyable and definitely not lacking on the holiday cheer.
Pleasant short read. These two agree to a no strings short fling. Found Gavin just a bit unlikeable due to stubbornness. He also ran away when told the I love you words without saying goodbye or anything. Mean. Piper had secrets that I thought explained a lot about her thinking. Didn’t blame her for keeping her lifestyle status quiet. All ends quickly. Did like the other characters but don’t feel invested to read about them.
Christmas strangers to lovers? A town and family plotting against/for them? Here is a great seasonal romance. You know the end is coming, but the story makes it be worth it.
Again too many side characters. So much are attention is spent on his sister and then nothing comes of it (later book). He seems so invested in his company but just leaves it for an indefinite time. There’s an epilogue but has nothing to do with this story and that annoys me.
I have enjoyed the previous books in the curvy series but I didn’t love the end to this one. The rest of the book was okay though. I found Gavin’s reaction near the end did not suit his personality in the earlier portion of the book.
Loved it! I got this as a freebie on stuff your kindle day. The tone is amazing the spice is good (2.5/5🌶️’s). I thought Gavin deserved to grovel more and he could be a little annoying but the majority of the story is amazing.
This book is so silly and unbelievable l I feel like we could have cut back 50 pages or so with some useless details. Also, the pacing was very off. Halfway through I couldn't even tell which month they were in anymore.
Got this book on Stuff Your Kindle. Cute little holiday book, main FMC was a bit annoying with her “I don’t believe in happy endings” instead of listening to everyone around her about MMC.
