This is such an amazing book for young children. It has all of the elements of an good children's book: good illustrations, things to touch, rhyming, and a valuable message. This book is about a penguin, named Rainbow Rob, who is tired of being black and white. He thinks of himself as boring. So Rob goes on a quest to find out who he'd like to be instead. At the end, Rob realizes that being himself is the best person he could possibly be! I love, love, love this message for young, impressionable children. My daughters and I read this book constantly when they were young.

Rainbow Rob follows a penguin named Rob who learns the colors of the rainbow and how to love being himself.
Rainbow Rob is a fun story that teaches the reader the colors of the rainbow. On each page, there is a different touch and feel fabric for the reader to explore. Rainbow Rob includes cute illustrations of Rob learning to love himself. This book is good for children of all ages who love animals and colors.
This is an excellent childrens' board book for toddlers and preschoolers. My young school age kids still enjoy reading it, too. Not only does it have an excellent story told in rhyme with perfect rhythm, it also offers an exploration of colors, animals, and textures throughout the pages. At the end, the book offers a perfect message about loving and accepting yourself even if you're different. I highly recommend this one and think it makes a great gift.
The colours are great, the rhyme is catchy and the little touch-and-feel patches make each page fun. The overall design is a little cluttered for my taste, but it's an engaging and enjoyable read for toddlers.
Grammy read me this one. I needed assistance to touch and feel the pages, as I am two months old. Fell asleep a little in the middle but woke up for the rainbow page.
Rob is a black and white penguin that wishes he could be another colour/ s. He proceeds to "try on" all the other colours. Each page has repetition that really appeals to younger children, as well as examples of that colour being discussed, as well as writing in the colour that will be discovered on the following page. It also discusses being happy with oneself the way you are.
This book would appeal to children between the ages of two and six. It is a fun way to learn about colours. Rob is really quite a likeable character. The little bit of tactile material is an added bonus that would aid in maintaining attention in the very young.
I would recommend this one for the very early grades for teaching colours.
This is one of my sons' favorite books. My six year old learned his colors with it. And I love the story of the penguin wanting to look like someone else just to realize at the end that being different is fine.
This is one of my Luke's favorites. I don't even care that some of the rhyming is a bit off. It's a great book for showing kiddos how to love themselves.
A self-hating penguin gets over himself, and we get to grope some animals along the way (this is one of those touchy-feely books). We like it, I just wish it were longer.
