A family's safari holiday turns into a nightmare. Among the ruins of Perth Station, a technician stumbles upon a disturbing truth. A pride of lions succumbs to a mysterious disease. LEO is a collection of twisted poems and dark stories inspired by this fascinating Zodiac sign, as well as retellings of the myths behind the sign. The tales span multiple genres, including science fiction, horror, and fantasy, and are told by award-winning authors and new stars of the Australian and New Zealand speculative fiction scene. Zoey Xolton introduces the anthology with her peom 'I am Leo' and Sasha Hanton has written a Foreword. The anthology features stories by the following Aveline Pérez de Vera, Stephen Herczeg, Emilie Morscheck, Neen Cohen, Emily Siggs, Nikky Lee, Alannah K. Pearson, Brianna Bullen, C.E. Rhoden, Kel E. Fox, Phil Hore, Deeanna West and Helena McAuley.
LEO, the eighth in Aussie Speculative Fiction's series of Zodiac-inspired tales, is a captivating read. It features many wonderful short stories and poems, many featuring lions of people with the characteristics of a Leo. One of the great features of this collection is the diversity of the stories, there is science-fiction, dystopias, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, gaslamp fantasy and horror, just to name a few. The stories are all well-written and engaging, and I expect many readers might find a new favourite author amongst these pages.
An excellent read all round. Every story interesting, every piece Panthera leo. This is one I may read a few times, just for fun, for a few dark moments, for the feeling of such power.
Mind-blowing collection of stories inspired by the star sign Leo. Full disclosure- I have a tiny story here, so I'm subtracting my own story from this rating, but I can say I'm delighted to be included in this anthology. I absolutely LOVED: the lions of Trafalgar Square playing during the pandemic the zombie lion of the savannah the gods of ancient Egypt strutting their stuff the clamping safari that goes a teeny bit wrong... and ... the rest. Great and diverse reading for the lockdown!
