In this ripped-from-the-headlines thriller, a polarized USA is in turmoil, and one man must decide if the scheme he’s sent to stop is the only thing that can save her…
Digital forensic expert Sam Flatt returns home from his latest investigation with plans to unplug. Laze. Mosey around his farm with his beloved horse Johnny. Then his black-ops boss from another life he doesn’t want back shows up. Washington politicos are vanishing, and it looks like one of Sam’s old team members is behind it.
Sam is sent to find him, but what he uncovers instead is a scheme so big it could destroy the nation…or save her. And he’ll have to choose.
Fake News is the second book in the Sam Flatt series. The first book, Unallocated Space, is a Kindle Book Awards' Thriller of the Year winner that won over fans with Sam's moral courage and willingness to implement justice. By any means. Hundreds of five-star reviews confirm: Hatchett is an author you can’t put down!
If you like Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Mark Greaney's The Gray Man, and Brad Thor's Scot Harvath, you'll love Sam Flatt.
What readers are saying about Hatchett...
Hatchett writes with an authority and deft hand that surely ranks him up there with the best writers of this genre. This is definitely an author to watch.
I could not put this one down after I started it except to eat and refill my drink. Texts and emails went unanswered. I am glad I began reading [Unallocated Space] on my day off.
How do you know you have found an author you love? When you go back on Amazon the minute you finish reading one book to find others by the same author.
This book kept me on edge for two days until I finished it. This author owes me some sleep. I really like Child's Jack Reacher, but I have to admit that this Sam Flatt comes close...
Jerry Hatchett is a digital forensic expert who works cases across the country and around the world. A lifelong technogeek, he has also consulted for hit TV shows like The Blacklist, Blind Spot, and more. When not forensicating or writing, he loves reading other authors, watching great movies, and trying to survive his too-smart dog Data.
Wow is an understatement when it comes to this thriller! This thriller reads almost like a non-fiction in places. You can read this as a stand-alone. It will make you see red since this is sooo close to home. But you can equate what Sam found out about the media and political figures and all the corruption for the sake of power with what is going on today. The author is right on the money! I couldn't put this book down and I loved the surprise ending. The pace of the story and all the threads hanging out there were woven into an amazing thriller. Sam is asked to find an old black-ops friend, Sol, by his former black-ops boss because he might be involved in kidnapping prominent people. Had Sol gone rogue? It is up to Sam to find out what is going on. Then there is the backlash to the media for not telling the truth about events that happen. When a sniper takes out one of the more famous media moguls with an ego to match, things start to get dicey. When his black-ops boss sends Sam to Norad underground to help find a mole and to see if Sol is involved in that too, things start to get crazy and you are taken on a extremely fast paced roller-coaster ride to the surprises in the end. This is a MUST read thriller for anyone following today's events! I loved the ending!I liked the Sam character and his ability to put the puzzle together and grow as a person. I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Sam never expected to see Sol again, but the video was clear. Sol is stuffing a seemingly dead TV anchorman into the back of an SUV. Then Sol makes two Senators disappear. These bizarre actions are just the tip of the iceberg, and Sam has to find Sol and get to the bottom of it.
The trail leads him to Cheyenne Mountain where he goes undercover as a civilian computer expert to conduct a phony forensic audit. What he is really investigating is the source of information leaks that appear to be coming from a recent hire in Client Services. Having been giving complete run of the facility, he stumbles upon an area so secret that no one he is in contact with can explain it. As he investigates he becomes wrapped up in a plot so outlandish that not even he believes it.
Once I started reading Fake News I found it hard to put down. The plot is ingenious and at the same time makes you wonder if it is drawn from real life or fiction. Could the underlying corruption it uncovers be based on a hint of reality hiding in plain sight? This is the second Sam Flatt novel, and I’m anxiously awaiting number three.
Adrenaline is still very much coursing through my veins after finishing the book. I got so absorbed into the story, the conspiracy of it that I couldn’t put it down. I loved the action and the twists. All the elements I look for in action and suspense books are here. I loved how multi-faceted it was. I also appreciated how background events were carefully talked about. They set the situations perfectly. It was like watching a puzzle come together to project an entire picture. The pace was fast but it also made things more plausible. The characters were complex that sometimes it was a little difficult to classify them as black or white, rather they were gray. The setting is something that made it more relatable to this time because of the current world events. The familiarity of the situation to current events I believe made it more real. The writing style was non-nonsense that added to the gravity and seriousness of the scenes. There wasn’t any boring part of the story in my opinion.
I received this book as a review copy and am posting this feedback of my own free will.
I received this free ebook for an honest review. This is the first Sam Flatt book I've read and it actually has me now wanting to read the first one and continue if the series continues. Fast pace story about what can go wrong when people in power abuse it and do corrupt things. I enjoyed the story line and the characters, it had a lot of twists and keeps the reader interested in the story. Would recommend to friends and family!
This is my first time reading a Jerry Hatchett book and I am a new fan. I'm a thriller junkie and this book had all of the excitement, suspense, plot twists, action and speed that a junkie such as myself craves. I stayed engrossed in the storyline from cover to cover, holding on for every dip and turn. It was unputdownable. I was provided a free advance review copy and give my review strictly voluntarily. I am rushing out to purchase the first Sam Flatt now.
What a great book Jerry Hatchett, this is what we have in our current culture. Fabulous exposure to the corruption running amok in our government. I have never had a book change title while I ‘m reading it, this is a first and I will always remember it. The original title was good but “Boiling Point” is probably more appropriate given what happens. I hope Hatchett isn’t a foreseer of the future but a lot of what he writes is as real as it gets. Our country is in one hell of a mess, not to get political but, no thanks to the Democrats. This is a worthy read! 5
Thanks Jerry for a wonderful and timely work of fiction, ripped from the headlines. A page turner for sure. Hated for it to end. You are continuing to grow and expand as a story teller. Great imagination and incorporation of current events. I look forward with great anticipation to Sam Flatt’s next adventure as CTO of the United Red States of America!!!
Great story; very prescient—could this really be a/the path forward? Awesome pace along with the great mix of tech and action Sam is known for. Especially loved the misc. pseudonyms that clearly are fictitious and any resemblance is purely random . Kudos to Jerry.
It is feasible but hopefully not reasonably possible that in todays society we could have an experience analogous to Hatchett’s book. The thought is chilling.
