"The Action Bible" is a comic-book style picture Bible for children ages 5-8, though older children will also enjoy it. The stories are straight from the Bible, but they are condensed and often contain a few comments not in the Bible as well as some commentary and historical information worked into the story to help explain events. Each new story indicated "based on Judges 16:1-20" or whatever verses. Not every event in the Bible is included, but it included a lot more than a typical children's Bible.

I really liked that the events were in chronological order and shown in their historical setting. Several psalms were worked into David's life story and several proverbs into Solomon's story. The prophets gave their (summarized) prophecies during the actual events where they were given, and Paul's (summarized) letters were shown as written when they really were written during his travels. There were even some maps of Paul's missionary travels. Also, the Old Testament flowed into the New Testament through a brief (and clearly marked as not in the Bible) historical summary of the events that happened between the two. So the Bible came across as a continuous historical account of God relating to man with a redemptive plan in action.

Sexual content and gore was smoothed over, usually implied or skipped entirely. I was also very impressed by the vivid, detailed illustrations. The illustrator did an excellent job of correctly showing the character's age, ethnicity, and culture. A few things were not quite accurate, but this book was a lot more accurate than other Children's Bibles I've seen. I'd certainly recommend this book, and I give them away to the children at two churches. These children are often seen carrying these Bibles around, and they make comments indicating that they have been reading the stories and remembering them.

I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine.

This book tells both well known and obscure Bible stories from both the New and Old Testament! The art is so beautiful and the imagery makes it so much easier to imagine the wild things in the Bible that no one now has ever seen! I enjoyed it immensely, and I don’t regret buying it. I will be reading it again shortly I’m sure😁✌️

This graphic novel of the Bible bears comparison with Robert Crumb's excellent graphic novel The Book of Genesis Crum's book contains the entire book of Genesis and as such is not kid friendly. When Genesis says Adam knew his wife Eve, Crum draws a panel illustrating that verse. The Action Bible, by contrast, is more kid friendly, probably by design. I was thankful for this since we got a copy for our two grandkids, aged 13 and 11.

Of course the Action Bible is much abridged. I was curious to see what would be left out and what would be left in. I was rather thankful that the rapture and the lake of fire were left out. The author left out David's adultery, only saying that David had Uriah killed because he wanted to be married to Bathsheba. He also left out the rape of Tamar, saying only that Amnon treated his sister Tamar cruelly. One thing I wish he would have put in was in the garden of Gethsemane when Jesus says the divine name and hundreds of men fall to the ground. That’s one of my favorite parts of the Bible

A nice touch was the comic book sound effects, like Kra-Koom! Kreeek! and Krak! As best as I can recall, Crum did not use these.

This Bible had an apologetic tinge, smoothing over contradictions and various absurdities in the source text. For example, when bears come out and maul 42 young boys in 2 kings, the author turns them into young men and gives them knives in order to make them dangerous.

Nonetheless all this is easily overlooked and I happily give this book five stars.

The book that I’m reading is called “The Action Bible” and it has awesome pictures and tells all the Bible stories in a way that's easy to understand, even if you've never read the Bible before. It's like having an adventure with all the characters from the Bible, like Noah and his ark, or Jesus and his friends. They make the stories feel real and exciting. You can see the animals getting on Noah's ark, or Jesus performing miracles. It's like watching a movie, but with pictures instead of moving images. The words in the stories make it feel real and exciting. The words in The Action Bible are simple and easy to understand, even if you're just learning about the Bible.

It also explains everything in a way that's fun and interesting. You'll learn about all the important people and stories in the Bible, like for example Jesus and Moses, Job and others. it'll make you want to read more. You can relate with the characters in the stories. It can help others who are new to the Bible to understand it by being summarized. The book covers a wide range of stories, from the creation of the world to the life and teachings of Jesus. We can learn lessons from the Bible because it also gives you advice to follow so you can avoid making a mistake. The Bible is like a path to taking you to a better place not only in this world but spiritually as well transforming your character building good morals and ethics, also getting closer to the truth. The book also highlights the importance of having faith through Christ when we are facing difficult situations. It also highlights the importance of having hope when physical eyes tell us that it’s impossible but there’s no solution to our problems. We can find hope in the impossible God. It highlights the importance of unconditional love where no matter how imperfect we are and no matter how many times we fail, God is always there to pick us up and comfort us in our lowest moments showing the true meaning of love. It also shows us how we should be the light of this world and be different.

I recommend this action bible because it can help those who are new to the bible to read the action bible because it summarizes some of the words in the bible which can help those to understand it more. It also basically how people who are new to it visualize things from different plots. The Action Bible shows all the emotions we all face in this modern world and it also has advice that we can learn from.

I recommend people to meet God because God is real and the Bible is read. The bible is the past and present and future. There’s many people that consider themselves Christian’s but don’t know God because they still keep doing the things that they know are bad. I can say God is real because God made some changes in me and I’m still in the process where I'm seeking more of God for him to remove what he doesn’t like about me. God took me out of depression and addiction to vape and karts and alcohol and how God separated me from friends that aren’t worth having around me.

To know where to start with the Bible can feel overwhelming, and for many people that uncertainty becomes the very reason they never begin. That’s why resources that make Scripture accessible, engaging, and faithful to the text are so valuable.

The Action Bible is one of those rare resources I cannot recommend highly enough.

Although it’s presented in a comic-style format, this Bible is incredibly accurate, detailed, and respectful of God’s Word. It doesn’t just skim the surface or retell isolated stories. It walks you through the full narrative of Scripture, helping you understand God’s story from beginning to end, not just the Gospels.

The visuals are powerful and immersive, making events, people, and timelines easier to grasp and remember. For visual learners especially, it brings clarity to passages that can sometimes feel complex or disconnected when read on their own. Rather than distracting from the message, the artwork enhances understanding and draws you deeper into what’s happening.

What truly sets The Action Bible apart is how approachable it is. It removes intimidation without removing depth. Whether you’re brand new to the Bible, returning after time away, or even someone who has read Scripture for years, it offers fresh perspective and deeper comprehension.

I’ve personally learned so much from it, and it has strengthened my understanding of the Bible as one cohesive, purposeful story. If you’re looking for a faithful, engaging, and visually rich way to read and understand Scripture, The Action Bible is an outstanding place to start.

How blessed are we to have a Father who loves us enough to provide us with this Bible, to help strengthen our relationship.

I bought this for my granddaughter who is 10 years old currently. She told me she started reading it that night! This Action Bible brings Scripture to life in a way that’s engaging, exciting, and easy to understand for readers of all ages. The illustrations are vivid and dynamic, perfectly capturing the drama, heroism, and heart of God’s redemptive story. I think whether for kids, teens, or adults, this Bible makes the narratives memorable and accessible while remaining faithful to Scripture. It’s a fantastic tool for family reading, personal study, or sparking a love for God’s Word in young readers. I often recommend illustrated childrens bibles for new believers that like me are timeline people and want a quick overview of the history of the Bible to help them understand where in the whole context they are when they either read the scriptures, or in a church service hear a message. Then at least they can know when or where it comes from in context.

What a fabulous graphic version of the Bible! The kids and I spent most nights this year reading a chapter each night before bed. We took turns being the narrator and the individuals in the message! Not only did the kids (11 and 9 years old) love it, but I absolutely loved it too. It was so fun reading the stories of the Bible with such amazing illustrations! We know that this is just a snapshot of what The Bible actually contains, but I felt that the author and illustrators did well at conveying the truth in everything they captured.

We are sad that we have finished it, but I anticipate that we will be starting over again sooner than later!

Now when I rate this 2 stars, I am not trying to be the annoying atheist "hehe this book sucks because it's the bible🤓" but the writing is just awful, just truly awful, like everything is so monotone and literal, everything sounds like this happened because this happened its just boring to read, I spent a whole month trudging through old testament before I said screw it and finished the new testament in a day, it's just so incredibly boring.

What a great story telling book. I love how it goes through most of the stories of the Bible’s and all the drawing is spectacular. However this is no replacement to the Bible and that is obvious. It leaves so much out that honestly I wouldn’t give this book to anyone over the age of 13. If your older than that it would be better if you read the actual Bible first then this book. Great read tho and excellent pacing. I wish the gospel was a bit longer but besides that the pacing was great.

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[b] Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

This is aimed at kids/tweens so the stories are simplified. That said, enjoyable by anyone of any age I think (depends on what mindset you approach it with?). Great artwork/lettering/use of colour, including people’s ethnicities/clothes etc. A new way of experiencing the Bible at a time when I didn’t have the time/energy/focus to read/listen to a full-length Bible.

Great way to get you g people hooked. But after reading, you definitely need the real Bible to check the stories. Maybe this was the intention of the authors all the way.
I do remember Bible comics in the 80s, which were quite similar concerning stories, characters, and even pictures. Could be because they relate to the same book anyway.

After reading the first edition, then the 3 volume Kingstone Bible, now this new edition, I have to say this one is so well done and put together. The only real detriment, aside from not including some stories, is that anything after the book of Acts is sparse.

Incredible, perfect way to learn about the bible without needing to read a massive block of text. Art is very well made. It grabs and holds the readers attention. Perfect for teens and younger, or those who are reading for the first time.
