Cara finally unearths a clue about the mage who created Nefertiti's Heart, but there's one prospect more terrifying than whatever lurks in the obsidian chest... her daughter leaving home.
On her eighteenth birthday, Rachel announces her intention to embark on an adventure. She wants to break free of her family's protective care, see the world, and escape the whispers in her head that have grown more insistent.
The two women journey to Egypt on the trail of an ancient mystery, but Rachel chafes under maternal bonds. As Cara is drawn back through time to walk in the footsteps of Nefertiti, mother and daughter need to forge a new relationship. Only if they stand united to confront the voice from the shadows can they stop the man intent on destroying everything they love...
God I hope there will be 7th book! The only thing I didn't care for was the jump 10 years in the future and not for reasons you would think. I want to read all the adventures that they had in that time span! I feel like saying anything about the story would give away too much so if you've been following this series, read this one too! Rachel comes of age and goes on an adventure to Egypt with her family and finds out they're each carrying a soul of an ancient Egyptian. WHAT?! If you like historical fantasy, adventure, magic, and humor, go read the series!
Was looking forward to this book and was so happy to finally read it. Biggest problem was I feel like I got a copy that was published before the editing process was finalized and it honestly got really distracting.
Really disappointed in the ending to this series. To put it simply, sloppy. There were a ton of grammar mistakes or incorrect words in places. As well as the author getting her own story wrong. In the first book she says that cara had gone yo Egypt with her father. This book says it was her first time. Also Helene dies when cara gave birth to the boys. Which was ten years ago in the story line. That would put rachel at 9 when she awoken the mage not 14 in which she states in this novel. There are a few others that i haven’t mentioned. All in all FRUSTRATING. In short her timeline does not match to the rest of the series. With that and the writing errors it distracts from the story they are trying to tell. I really loved this series until this last book.

A wonderfully written Steampunk/Victorian novel series that I truly hope will be continuing... Enthralling characters that one can embrace like an old friend, amazing technology in a steam and clockwork world and a good dose of torrid affairs of the heart. I truly hope there is more to come as the last book ends with beloved Cara and irascible Nate embarking on a new chapter !!!
I loved this series!! I'm this one Cara has lost for of her edge but Rachel picked up all what she lost. Nate is also more subdued but his Cunning is shown in how he takes meticulous care in his planning. I was glad to see Miguel back and was happy to see how his character grew up.
I missed the romance between Cara and Nate. The author took out a lot of not all of the passion, which was a little disappointing considering their bond.
This has been a very enjoyable series with great characters, plot, action, adventure and romance. I couldn’t put it down and stayed up late into the night while I was reading it. I hope the author will continue the series. It would be fun to see what mischief the twins could get into.
Amazing to be transported back into the world of Cara , Nate and the dragons. The descriptive writing is really good and you just get drawn in. I look forward to seeing R & M move forward with their relationship
Amazing series of books. Cara and Nate are incredibly brilliant characters with so much heart and stories full of action, dragons and steampunk goodness. A W Exley has given us a wonderful finale (is it really over?! Can we have more?! Please) a must read series
I did really enjoy this book as it gives a great backstory to Nefertiti’s heart from the first book. We find out all about the mage who made it, Rahotep. He turns out to be a complete psycho because he was friends with Nefertiti’s as a child and he believed the Pharaoh stole her from him. Nefertiti’s in fact loved a Medjay, royal guard, and they ran away together when they found out Rahotep intended to permanently bind they’re souls together.
Nefertiti’s and her Medjay, Nakhut, stoke the heart when they left after he had killed Rahotep. Unbeknownst to them though he had saved a spell in his lungs which was what was in the obsidian box.
The book is based on the family going to Egypt where Cara has visions provided by Nefertiti. Which is how she discovers Nate it bound to Nakhut not the Pharaoh. Rahotep was reborn into another body however he wants his full power back with the lungs so he follows them across Egypt where it comes to a battle at the end after he had poisoned Pavlin.
Rahotep was defeated and the family was together again, the book ends of Rachel going on her own adventures with Pavlin and Miguel, whom she is now dating.
The plot was good in this book, however I felt that it wasn’t properly edited because they’re were a few sentences that didn’t make sense, which was jarring to read and also there was occasionally a word written twice that didn’t need to. I found mistakes like this throughout the series, this one was the worst though. One of my books, Mosehs Staff also came with Nessy’s Locket Printed down the spine, so I don’t know how that glaring mistake got past the editors! Still the series had some interesting plots, and was a nice narrative.
I have really enjoyed this series, it has the perfect blend of romance, adventure and mild smut. It is a very good steampunk set in Victorian England, and the last few books have also had dragons in them. In this book we jump in 10 years in the future after the last book's conclusion, and we get to follow Rachel as she wants to go on her own adventures. I missed Cara and Nate a little bit, as they are not the sole main characters anymore, but it was a lot of fun to see their daughter grown up too.
Looking forward to this book and really enjoyed reading it, except for the fact that I felt like I read a version/edition that hadn't been fully edited before being published and it honestly got somewhat distracting :(
