Magorian & Jones #1

The Memory of Water

Rate this book
When a skeptical doctor teams up with an honest-to-god wizard on a quest for an ancient and powerful manuscript, enemies lurk around every dangerous corner.

Dr. Radford Michael Jones has dedicated his life to the treatment of the goblyns, fae, dragons, sirens and even more races which humans call the Errata.

Frustrated in his attempts to treat the newest race to emerge, Jones consults Magorian, whom the Errata call the first and only wizard of the millennium, his skepticism at full throttle.

Benjamin Magorian III has no time for the Errata, who did not spend a lifetime learning magic as he has done. He has even less time for Dr. Jones, who doesn’t respect his work. Yet his powers are needed.

Magorian and Jones’ combined talents embroil them in a deadly search for an ancient manuscript, the Book of Morcant, which may hold the dark answers both of them so desperately need.

But the two new friends are not the only ones who seek the secrets of the last great wizard to walk upon the world…

This is a really good book.
The premise is interesting and unique in my experience.

The magic "system" is well, not unique, it's similar to many other systems out there. But who gets to use the magic is different from most stories I've read. However, the consequences for using magic is what really sets this apart.

I really like the dynamic between the two MCs. Their partnership isn't forced, but it's not insta-buddy either. There's some humor without snark.

Overall this is a well-written story. And it really kept me interested through the whole thing. I'll admit that the beginning was a little tough because so much is different from most urban fantasy type worlds. But once I got used to some of the Errata types it was easier to get into.

Not a cliffhanger but

I really enjoyed this book. I only gave it three stars because because it didn't finish. One of my pet peeves, it wasn't a cliffhanger but it wasn't a finish. Despite that I will probably buy the next one. It was well written with very interesting characters. I'm tired of books that sound good in synopsis but don't fulfill their hype. This one lives up to expectations.

I read a lot of great books this year, but this one topped them all!!Where to start? The story is unique- people turning in fairy tale creatures- and two damaged heros with flaws who actually don´t want to be world savers. On top a gripping story with a lot of twist and turns. I couldn´t put the book down, so I finished it in two days and started reading the next in this series „The Triumph of Felix“

This is a wonderful book-it does an excellent job of in-depth world building without letting it slow down the plot. The main character is a wonderful representation of how complicated humanity can be, and the book deftly deals with difficult subjects, such as drug addiction, physical abuse, and psychological trauma. It’s let me get a better idea of what it is to be discriminated against due to one’s appearance, in a way I can’t truly understand in the real world. I look forward to reading more.

I loved it; a magnificent first book in this really different new series. It had enough twists and turns, both good and bad, to keep one reading from beginning to end on one sitting. A human Doctor treats those that are no longer human, but have been turned into mythical creatures, some with extraordinary magical powers. But he needs to know more and finally finds a man who believes and knows magic, something he does not believe in. Can't wait to see what the author going to give us in the next book.
