Love's Redemption

Rate this book
The "Slayer" has been terrorizing San Antonio for months. The police believe this sadistic serial killer is a prostitute and a woman; but that's all they know. Dr. Maya Richardson has come a long way from being the little girl that no one wanted. Her happy childhood was shattered when her parents died in an accident. Because of her dual heritage no family members offered to take her in, forcing her into an abusive foster home that left her emotionally scarred, and unwilling to believe in love and commitment. As the founder of Imani House, Maya helps women escape prostitution. She is pulled into the Slayer investigation when her beloved foster sister becomes the killer's first female victim. To Detective Mark Halstan this is just another case until Maya walks into the police squad room. His attraction to her is immediate and intense. He knows the timing is all wrong but he can't ignore the heat generated every time their eyes meet. The difference in their race means nothing to Mark as he falls in love with the beautiful, reserved psychologist. Mark and Maya work together to find the Slayer before more lives are lost but the strange occurrences surrounding the investigation increase. Maya struggles to find the courage to love again as a whole town is on edge, wondering who is the face behind the San Antonio Slayer. Dr. Maya Richards is hoping against hope that her foster sister isn't The Slayer's latest victim - but that's obviously too much to hope for as she goes to make the identification alongside Detective Mark Halstan. Though they both know that the timing is all wrong neither can fight the attraction they have for each other - nor are they sure they want to. This story moved quickly and before I knew it I was more than halfway done but there was a bit of stiffness in places. The characters interacted well but I didn't feel there was a lot of chemistry there. The inclusion of a bit of back-story for both Maya and Mark made them each a bit more interesting though I could have done with fewer of Maya's flashbacks. Though Ally was never a real character for them to interact a strong sense of who she was, was quite palatable via Maya's memories. While the cynic in me was sure I knew who the villain of the piece was, I liked the way the identity was teased out. Also a hint of paranormal is present but definitely not enough to classify as such, it was merely in passing and its presence doesn't change the outcome.

There were a couple of grammatical and typesetting errors - enough to draw my eye but definitely not enough to take away from the story or annoy me enough to stop reading. However, in its place was the overuse of the word small - which could have been a drinking game was extremely annoying and I actually checked the number of occurrences.

Overall I liked this effort and would read this author again.

You definitely have to suspend belief to be able to enjoy this. However, there were things that were a little too unbelievable. I was surprised at the paranormal aspect but I found it kind of interesting. What I couldn't believe was how clueless everyone was. How can these detectives not remember simple things? How can a detective not automatically find it strange that she got an anonymous bouquet of flowers while assisting in a murder investigation? Why didn't Montgomery tell Mark that the killer didn't like Myra being with him? The relationship between Myra and Mark just seemed way too easy. All of the conversations between the characters seemed too stilted. It was too proper and just not natural. There wasn't a difference in how any of the characters talked except for the pimp. Typos usually don't bother me that much but there were quite a few.
I really like how you couldn't guess who the real killer was. That was what kept it from getting one star.

Really?!!!! This book had potential but failed. I’m so disappointed. How old is the author?!!!! I feel like an 17 year old virgin wrote the sex scenes. It’s like she copied and pasted many different scenes together in no order.

WOW!!! I love this story.. What I love most about it is that I was completely surprised by who the villian was. I loved the chemistry with Mark and Maya. Mark is the complete package when it comes to the alpha male. Yet he is written in a way that is very refreshing, a bit surprising, and completely SEXY! All of the supporting characters in this story were well written and developed. This story has the hot erotic, (not cheesy) love scenes with Maya and Mark. The great plot/story line, and although it was a short story, the story is very involved so it doesn't feel as though it's too rushed. Even though it still ended too soon for me I certainly tried to savor it. The FBI agent Nikolia is very very interesting. I can't wait to read the follow up about him! The story certainly defines the title of this book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE!

I don't have to say much about this book.I didn't expect the killers identity which is good cause it kept my interest in that section.About Maya and Mark's relationship I have to admit I didn't expected it to be that way.I mean usually in the books when they are close to the end the 2 heroes break up and he a heartache but not on this book.Their relationship had some problems but they worked things out.

I absolutely love this book!!!!!! Sweet, passionate love blooms for the two characters and the male protagonist is so protective of his woman that i smiled, laughed and cried all throughout reading this. My only contention is that it had to end:(

This is a creative story, but has an odd, unconnected element in the persona of the FBI agent. Could have given it 4 stars but for that. And thanks to my gr friend Firstlady for lending me the ebook!
