One,two, three strikes you're out!
This book was not a strike out for me though.
A new to me author, this was a fun book for me to read.
The book takes place in 1910 and is about the Mason siblings, 2 sons and a daughter.
They are a baseball family, having been taught how to play baseball by their father even the daughter.
It's unusual for a woman to play baseball in 1910, though not on the baseball team her brothers are on after all what would her fiancee say if he knew a lady like her played baseball. She is convinced her fiancee, who is a doctor would not approve of her playing baseball and surely it's not ladylike.
An unfortunate accident takes one of her brothers out of the game for weeks and such an important game is coming up too. Some encourage her to step in since she is an excellent ball player and disguise herself as her brother and play the game. Does she dare?
Will her fiancee still want to marry her if she does such an unladylike thing? After all this is 1910.
A quick and fun read, I enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to reading more by this author.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Baseball Bride by Claire Sanders is a cool way to do a historical romance set in 1910 and deals with baseball.
Will Abigail be able to fool everyone that she's her twin brother?
Abigail Mason
Abigail Mason is the youngest and only girl in the Mason family. She has a twin brother named Andrew and two older brothers. Abigail grew up playing baseball but didn't think that any guy would want her if she were known as a tomboy who loved to play baseball. Instead, she changed who she was to get any man to like her. Abigail is a great person, and I love how she deals with people who confront her about what she has done. I also like how she is around her family and what she shows Benjamin. She is a likable character.
Benjamin Connor
The Baseball Bride CRDoctor Benjamin Connor is the town's doctor who's been courting Abigail for the whole year that he's been there. His intentions were good, but he didn't trust anyone in town regarding his finances and to get his practice off the ground. I like how he wants to be secure in his practice before getting a wife involved and, of course, kids later down the road. Benjamin is a great person and I like his sense of humor.
Four Stars
The Baseball Bride by Claire Sanders is an excellent start to a series about the Mason family. I am rating this book four stars, and I recommend it to anyone who likes a sweet historical romance that includes some sports.

Its nice. The book is set in 1910 so we see the start of the 20th century and all insecurities and confusions regarding the changing role of women. The Suffragettes were already making waves.

The Baseball Bride is the budding love story between Abigail Mason and the newly recruited doctor , Benjamin Connor. Abigail's always played baseball along with her 3 brothers and is equally good at it. Benjamin is still in 2 minds of how he would like his girlfriend/bride to conduct herself in society

The author started out asking very progressive questions regarding women's role in the changing society and the existing rules for them. But, somewhere along the way, she's lost track and focuses solely on our mcs and their acceptance of their individual roles. She's introduced an abandoned wife , Grace as well as Hildi, a 30 yr single successful lady. I truly hope she does answer them appropriately
Girl power is always commendable and gutsy girls need every form of encouragement.

The Baseball Bride by Claire Sanders is a delightful story. It is my favorite genre -- Sweet Romance, and as a Book Reviewer, I was given a free copy for my honest review.

This tale is set in 1910. Abigail Mason has grown up with three brothers and a father who loves baseball. Being the only girl, of course she wanted to do whatever her brothers did, and her father taught her how to play baseball right alongside her brothers.

But as Abigail begins to think about marriage, she decides it's best to put her baseball glove away and focus on pretty dresses and being more dainty. She catches the eye of the town's doctor, who begins courting her.

This book is well written and I simply couldn't put it down. The characters were believable and I quickly felt as though I knew them. Being a girl who grew up in a neighborhood of boys, I grew up playing wiffleball, similar to baseball but with a plastic bat and ball. And, though, I grew up in a much different time frame, I, too, found a time to put the game aside to become a young lady. But having had that similar experience, I could relate to Abigail.

I loved Abigail's relationship with her brothers and parents. The good-natured banter between her and her brothers brought smiles and chuckles as I read. Abigail's relationship with the town doctor faced challenges and struggles.

Ms. Sanders did a great job of resolving the conflicts and wrapping up the ending. This was definitely a feel-good story with enjoyable characters. I give this book 5 stars and look forward to reading the rest of the Masons of Brightfield series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sweet romance stories and baseball.

Baseball and Brides - what a fun combination!
This is a new to me author - and I look forward to reading more of her books.
This book is set in 1910. This series follows the Mason Siblings. The family has 3 boys and a girl. All of them, (including main character Abigail) are very good at playing, They were raised to play the game. Abigail, as she has gotten older, has tried to hide her talent. In this book, Abigail is courting town doctor, Benjamin. Benjamin wants to pursue further the relationship between Abigail and himself, but he knows that at the moment he cannot support a family. Abigail frets over some of the town gossip that she hears about Benjamin. But in her heart, she knows that Benjamin is hers.
Benjamin and the male Mason siblings have been playing great ball all year. They are in the final championship game and may have to forfeit. Will Abigail expose her secret to help her town's baseball team?

This book was well written. It contains well developed characters and an original storyline. This book kept me guessing what would happen next.

I received a copy of this book through the author -- all thoughts are my own.

Another win on Goodreads!!

This one is a departure from what I've been reading lately. This is set in 1910, during the Suffragette movement. Women's roles were still very defined back then. Abagail has a twin brother, and was taught Baseball by her father. She loves to play, but is at the age where she needs to "be a lady" and land a husband.

The new town doctor has been her beau for the past couple of months, but Benjamin is dealing with his own trust issues, as his purchase of the town practice wasn't on the up-and-up. He's cash strapped, and is dragging his feet. He doesn't feel he's in a position to become a husband and family provider yet.

So, as Abagail and Benjamin work on their relationship, Benjamin is working business arrangements with the town's wealthy single "old maid" ... causing rumors and speed bumps in their budding romance ... while the hometown team is on winning streak.

Throw in some shady circumstances with the last game of the season ... Abagail has to make a decision to play ball or not.

Super sweet story. Loved the time frame & characters in this book. Already purchased the next two books. Looking forward to Andrew & Hildy's book.

What an enchanting romance. I love a story with a well deserved HEA. The story of a young woman having some difficulty finding her place in a changing world. Set in 1910 this is not your typical historical romance. The love story will enchant you, and the baseball will intrigue you. Can't wait for the next installment in the series!

Well done characters, interesting plot, and baseball!

Oh poor Abigail. As a young teen she was teased for her desire and ability to play baseball and ever since she's been tying to prove she's not a tomboy.

She being courted by the town's new doctor, he's suspicious of people's intentions because he naiveté was taken advantage of once before.

Of course with both of them holding things back, trouble is bound to come up in their relationship... Oh boy!
