I’m not sure what’s worse to lose a parent at a young age and have no recollection of them, or to lose a parent as an adult and remember everything about them. Losing a mother at eighteen is challenging as is trying to find yourself in the world away from home. Grieving your loved one is a process, and no one can tell how you’re going to handle it. Not a soul should tell you when you need to be done grieving. Nobody will know how you’re feeling unless you tell them. Don’t be afraid to communicate what you need during your time of grief or need. Take your time and be kind to yourself along the way. These poems are to let you know that you’re not alone.
A beautiful story of loss and love. I enjoyed the author’s style (a mix between exposition and poetry), themes, and vulnerability. I would recommend this book for anyone dealing with loss— or anyone who wants to be grateful for love! I’ll be continuing to follow this author!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5️⃣ ‘A Long Way from Home’ by Christina Robin Resnover
Wow… where do I start? I was gifted this book and did not expect the emotional rollercoaster that I was put on when picking up this book. I SOBBED within the first 8 pages and then I cried at the very end. These poems were something that everyone, with or without experiencing the loss of a parent, can entirely resonate with. Not only did we see her journey through the years in the book, she took us on the loss of her mother, the heartbreak from a relationship, the loss of her grandmother and some self conflicting thoughts.
It’s more than grief. It’s raw and astonishing. It’s powerful and unheard of. Whether you’re 16 or 45, this is a good fit for you to read.
‘Too Hard’ and ‘Misery’ were poems that I had connected to on a entire different level. I would love to recommend go buy and read this book, and make sure to look out for my fav poems.
To Christina, once I finished this book, I wanted to reach through the pages and hug you. Thank you for this masterpiece.
Favorite poem - Cover Us pg. 50 Real, raw emotion that struck me from page 1. Oftentimes, poetry can be heartfelt but feel disconnected in translation from author to reader. However, this poetry book is dripping with relativity. I felt nearly each and every single word deeply within my own heart. Though, I haven't lost my mom and grandmom to the stinging pangs of death, I can only imagine how heartbreaking it would be and I commend Christina for displaying her intense bravery and caring enough about herself and others to share her story. It is truly inspiring and makes me want to share mine. I know there are others suffering out there that definitely need this book in their lives! Thanks for being so courageous and helping others to do so as well. Your work isn't done yet.
I graciously received a signed copy by the author after being selected as one of the winners from Christina's giveaway in October 2021.
This book really is a journey like the title implies. It's a journey through loss, love, the loss of love, and growing through it. The author tells her story very honestly through the medium of poetry. Each poem is raw and reads much like a journal.
The poetry itself is not a style I naturally gravitate to, but that is personal preference. If you need comfort, or are looking to understand the raw emotion behind loss, give this book a try.
