“In past his wish was revenge, but now it's her.”

I absolutely loved the dark atmosphere that was maintained throughout the novel. It felt consistent. It is a love story between who lost all his close people and who never had someone who cared about her. Both of them were quite similar. It is a delightful journey to read a story with smart leads. Both of them been through alot because of politics and wars and then using the pain of suffering to survive and plan revenge. Jiujiu being quick to adapt to different circumstances at any time was helpful for her to survive till now when almost all of her family did not. Ji Yu has been through even torture and pain because of his loved ones death to survive so that he kill his enemies. It was good to see then show their vulnerable side to each other and have a very deserved happy ending. They are not "good" people but they did everything to survive. Also them living malewife and girlboss life after everything is so on point.

Compared to CALID by the same author, this novel is much more painful and darker. It revolved around revenge, schemes, and lies.

Jiang Jiuqing, the Ninth Princess of the destroyed Qi Kingdom, was ordinary in the eyes of others. She didn't have the beauty that could cause nations to get destroyed. She always blended in the crowd, without anyone noticing her until him. Jiujiu was actually very smart and clever. She exacted her revenge step by step. She did not place hope in anyone because no one really cared about her before. She valued her life more than anyone else until him. She was a skeptic who didn't believe that someone could actually and truly love her and place her above everything else. She was rational in dealing with things and had full control of her emotions. But, if you really think about it, she was admirable and at the same time pitiful. Her rationality and indifference to everyone was truly admirable, but it was also this indifference that made her pitiful. She never depended on anyone else because she never knew how to. It was sad.

Ji Yu was a prince of Zhou Dynasty and was the most famous lobbyist. He appeared gentle and amiable in front of everyone else so they never knew that he was playing them all. He schemed to avenge his families and himself who suffered a lot by the wrongs of those close to them. He wasn't a good person, I could even describe him as an evil one. He was dark enough that he literally poisoned Jiujiu to have leverage on her. He did everything to see the end no matter what the means were. He was the villain — a scarred villain. He had a deep hatred against the world. He was not like this before, he was normally playful and naughty. But, times had changed and life wasn't really gentle to him. Could we blame him for getting his revenge? No, I would have done the same. However, he was quite pitiful too.

Jiujiu and Ji Yu were very similar to the point that even though they knew that they liked one another, they were still wary against each other. It was crazy. Ji Yu lost all his loved ones that he never truly knew how to love another anymore. Jiujiu never really experienced how to be loved. Someone who didn't know how to love and someone who didn't know how to be loved, surprisingly, it became a beautiful and comforting love story.
