Animals Are Sleeping

Rate this book
Just how do animals sleep in the wild? Some animals sleep standing up, others even sleep while swimming or flying! The short, lyrical text provides fascinating information, such as location, position, and duration of sleep of animals living in different habitats. The satisfying conclusion will have children reaching for this book again and again at naptime, bedtime, or any time of day to learn about animals.

This fictional story includes a 4-page For Creative Minds section in the back of the book and a 25-page cross-curricular Teaching Activity Guide online. Animals are Sleeping is vetted by experts and designed to encourage parental engagement. Its extensive back matter helps teachers with time-saving lesson ideas, provides extensions for science, math, and social studies units, and uses inquiry-based learning to help build critical thinking skills in young readers. The Spanish translation supports ELL and dual-language programs.

This is surely a good book I would recommend for young children that need a bedtime story! This book goes through the various sleeping arrangements that different animals have, and it becomes a fairly educational story. You will see how animals sleep whether it be upside down, high up in the trees, during the day, or cuddled up in the snow. Young children love animals also and this is why I chose it for an appropriate book for young ages who almost always love animals. The story winds down to the end, wishing the reader good night which makes it a good bedtime story.

My son was stimulated by identifying familiar animals and new animals alike. He would often add additional details about the scene or environment. I liked this book. I thought the pictures were gorgeous - almost frame-able.

I taught a lesson on animals with my 1st graders where they had to choose their favorite animal. I would use this book as introduction on animals where they can use the illustrations as a guide providing examples of animals.

This is a book that could easily be missed because of the cover. The illustrations inside the book are perfect for toddlers.

The art is what makes this book. The short lines with simple rhymes make this good for a bedtime read-aloud for little ones, but the art is gorgeous, warm and soothing.

Gorgeous illustrations. Kids will enjoy naming off all of the animals. Would be a great choice for a bedtime storytime. Pair with Mem Fox's Time for Bed.
