My mother was cursed because she was raped. It wasn’t her fault for being beautiful, but what if we were given this curse to protect us?
The sentences on your skin are spoken to you by your true mate. That's how it works here. You can't get rid of them or change them, and that's… just fine.
But why have I got six?
In our town, people come from one of two worlds; ours or theirs.
Ours? Normal suburban streets, nice houses and trimmed rose bushes. Theirs? Rip-roaring motorcycles, uncontrolled gunfire, strippers and anarchy.
What happens when two worlds collide? There's seven explosions at once.
In a town full of vastly different people, not everyone is as they seem.
I look like an innocent flower, but I’m the fucking serpent under it.
This book is written in UK English. Contains mature scenes and is not suitable for readers under the age of 18. Contains some dark themes which could be considered triggers. This is a reverse harem, why choose romance featuring one woman and six men. The female lead character chooses all potential mates by the end of the book.
I really liked how this series has started off. A strong FMC with strong mates. A cliffhanger that brings together a lot of anticipation for the next book. I have unanswered questions about this book that I’m hoping will get resolved in the next book. And I’m super excited to see where the next book takes the plotline.
Monday loves books, snakes and tea. She runs a reptile rescue, which definitely suits her. Because, honestly, who would understand things that slither better than the girl with snakes for hair. Should probably mention her mom is the infamous Medusa. Which makes the marks on her arm a little tricky. Everyone hopes to find their mate. But some twisted deity has decided to saddle her with 6. That means 6 poor souls are mated to the daughter of the most fearsome legend to leave Greece, and Monday is very much her mother's daughter. Getting 1 mate to look past the dual heads-a-hissing would be a challenge, but 6? And when she discovers that the 6 she's fated to are the local MC?
Spoilers ahead. This is like a knock off Sons of Anarchy, Wonderland, Greco-Roman mythology scene meets Ally McBeal-but she's a vet...sort of. It's hard to describe, which actually makes it very interesting. It is very verbose, though. Very. It takes time to get into the speech cadences, and to slog through the inner monologues. But, once the rythm is down it starts moving. There's a lot of info dumps that could do with some smoothing, but they're not obnoxious, just a little jarring sometimes. We get a glimpse of bitter and brutal CEO/happy mom Medusa, who we know the past of (the horrors that happened in Athena's temple). We discover that Monday's dad hangs in the garden, but only half the reason why. The guys' stories are variations on various myths, and the MC is kept decidedly vague except for them owning half the town. The world building of the world is seemingly left up to mythology to explain as the focus of the story is completely on the characters. While I have a ton of questions, if I leave any of them in the review, it would be absolute spoilers- which I refuse to do. But I do have about a dozen questions. My only real complaint, though, is: the guys names, nicknames, club names, true names and her nicknames for them get very confusing. I got a kick out of some of the zingers bandied about. Her bouncing from shy to vamp back to shy was a little odd and didn't match her inner monologues. And, while she joked about birth control, none appears to be used, and she doesn't seem to be ready to settle down- with or without them. Other than some rather odd inner chatter about her "volcano" rumbling, or her cat meowing, it was definitely intriguing enough that I'll be looking for 2's release. I have questions, dang it lol. I need answers.
I’ve be in the mood for a good MC RH while I wait for the next Steel Demons books. This was a good book with some interesting characters. I mean the leading lady is the daughter of Medusa so you know it’s going to be a different take on things. Monday is a unique FMC with some hobbies that make sense for her but not for the average person. Her males are a good mix of lore, legends and gods. Some parts of the story have great detail in world building, and character creation and this slowed down the story for me at times. That’s the only reason that’s not a five star book.
I absolutely loved this book. It hooked me from the start and had my dying of laughter at times. I can’t wait for the next book and look forward to rereading!
A reverse harem paranormal romance with deadly monsters, the men and women of myth and legends? H*ll yes! <3
