When I woke up this morning, I never expected Loki, yes that Loki, the God of Mischief to throw me over his shoulder and carry me back to Asgard to be his... well... You know...
And that's not the worst of it. Now, I'm surrounded by other Norse gods and every single one of them wants a piece of me. And the craziest thing?
The absolute most insane thing?
I think I might be falling for them.
Yes, Them... plural
Then again, this is probably why my shrink says I'm crazy, but jokes on him.
Wonder, dragons, fae, fantasy, and romance, these are the things Melody Rose loves to write about. If these are the things you love, please think about following me on Amazon or on Facebook.
Here’s the thing, I downloaded this book from KU ages ago and then just let it sit there. When I’m in a Loki mood I tend to revert to fanfic (old habits die hard).
I take full responsibility for not re-reading the synopsis and TW for this book prior to starting it, that’s on me (although I tend to go into most books without checking TW). The dub-con/non-con in this book was just not for me. It’s also stated multiple times that mortals willingly sleep with Loki, so why tf is he kidnapping this runny nosed FMC and SA-ing her? The math isn’t mathing. 😒
Dub-con/non-con aside, the book was just not interesting enough to keep my attention. The most interesting thing about the FMC is that she’s allergic to mistletoe and pine and smells like blackberries…oh and of course it turns out she’s a demigod…
I was really trying to push through this book, but I just do not care enough about these characters to continue.

Rawr, ok where do I begin! First I want to give a warning, there is sex without consent, it's pretty much forced into our fmc, then followed by maybe a little Stockholm syndrome for sure, and yet I made it past those first few pages within this read. I think the pace of the book including the direction finally made me throw in the towel. This is a weird read for sure, and our fmc totally transformation into this new and improved individual was by far the weirdest. It's also weird how they come to the conclusion she's different and has powers, then Another weird slap to who she is? I just didn't like it. I found myself skipping and then we get more forced sex. I knew this wouldn't be a book I wanted to continue with
Blurb to this book sounded great, I mean who doesn’t love sexy God RH. Sadly didn’t live up to expectations. Now I love RH, my favourite genre however this book I honestly feel like it should have been MF. I think that the build up of the relationship with Loki would have been so much better rather than also then bringing in the brothers. This is rare for me as normally I’m wishing that MF books would be RH but I just couldn’t get into the feelings and felt like the RH was forced in this book. Sadly just one of those things and will probably still read the rest of the series when it comes out and hopefully I will warm up to it more.
Note: I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.
The basic concept had me interested right away. I’ve read many books by Melody Rose and was looking forward to something new.
If you’ve read anything by her before the hero is always a woman; but how this heroine starts out doesn’t let it show where she will end up.
Avoiding spoilers of any kind what I can say is that I really liked this book. It’s refreshing dealing with Norse Gods and hints of RH without the fast tracking or heaviness you’d find in such kinda of books.
It was a steady read from start to end; including of course the ease of the writing itself. I loved each character, all of whom are based on the Norse pantheon - but you don’t need to have any prior knowledge in order to enjoy that part. I liked the journey our main lady takes during the book too.
It’s a great start to a new series, in all honesty I’m very excited to read more of.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I knew this would have non-consensual sex in it, at least at the beginning. This didn't bother me.
What bothered me is that Freya and Loki deduce that Astrid is a demigod, and suddenly Loki pulls a complete one-eighty. At first he thinks of Astrid as a sexual object to pass the Yule celebrations with, but once he figures out her special snowflake status, he wants to be all cuddles and feelings immediately. Barf.
And Astrid? I knew she'd eventually be into having sex with her abductor, but she finds out she's a demigod and that whole thing is wiped in a blink because now she can have smoochies and snuggles? Give me a damn break.
Basically, I don't like complete one-eighty personality shifts in characters, especially when they happen instantaneously. Nope, nope, nope.
DNF @ 23% Sorry this one just wasn't for me. I liked the idea of this book but I'm not a fan of Insta love and the fated mates thing to explain away everything. The FMC was kidnapped and raped by Loki but by the second day there's already talk of Stockholm syndrome, and her body betraying her into wanting it 🙄 after just a few days without them even having a conversation she's decided she wants a relationship with Loki, things were just meant to be 🙄 she finds out she's a demi god but who cares, she'd rather be sitting on Loki's face, literally 🙄
you guys, i am a chronic five-star rater, and i'm especially inclined to five-star books about loki (see my bookshelf). this book has mild promise, but i'm 80% through it and the center of the story is as solid as wet paper. the premise of the first chapter is forgotten a fifth of the way in.
the most frustrating thing about this book is that the FMC/heroine is a giant mary sue and has no redeeming qualities, no bond with the reader, is not relatable in any way, and has an emotional age of about 13. the FMC's immaturity and tantrums are more stark in contrast because the other characters are ancient gods, but it truly reads like FMC was written by a very, very young girl with junior high level experience in terms of relationships.
there are issues with repeating adjectives and missing/incorrect words, and overall, it feels like no one edited this book or even beta read it. i know a little tiny bit about book structures, but this is the first time i've understood *why* meandering is so aggravating to the reader and undermines the narrative structure.
another huge issue that makes the reader dislike the FMC is that nothing is properly established with or for her, so she comes off as entitled and selfish, barging around a new place and expecting lot from everyone. there's never any effort put in to creating an attraction between FMC and asgard's most eligible bachelors, it's kind of framed as some sort of sex buffet held exclusively for her.
also, for no reason made clear to the reader, FMC is irresistible to every single character. no effort is placed into creating tension between the FMC and any character, we just get random, confusing love scenes out of nowhere. like the author mapped out romantic conflicts between several characters in an outline, but didn't bother doing any of the work to make them make sense by fleshing the storylines out. they're entirely unearned, so they don't mean anything when they happen, and FMC just wanders through the book straddling anyone who will stay still long enough. and even then, it doesn't work as pure erotica, either.
as a result, it just kind of feels like the FMC leaps around from guy to guy with no motivation or build-up other than "they're hot and i just noticed." FMC also hits on everyone awkwardly and constantly (???) which is uncomfortable to read, and she has zero empathy for anyone in the book. the way other characters react to and interact with her will obliterate your suspension of disbelief in every chapter.
like many stories, this book culminates in a "big-deal, life-or-death for all the characters" moment. and even at this juncture of the story, as every character is facing and preparing for the real specter of potential death, the FMC still behaves in an exhausting and childish manner. all the characters are planning important things, and FMC keeps interrupting with a version of "but what about my feelings?" she isn't clever, she rarely talks about things other than herself or her wants, she has no awareness of anything going on around her, and she's constantly demanding things from all of the characters.
if this had been edited, it feels like these issues would never have seen the light of day, and i suspect a lot of readers selected this because there are not very many loki-centric PNR books. and i will almost certainly finish it tonight, but the more i read it, the more i detest the FMC.
also i really truly dislike leaving less than five-star reviews, but this book ... i have read so much (and i read so much fanfic, i am not picky) in my life and i cannot recall any heroine in a novel or fanfic or anthology or fiction of any sort who was so unlikable. lately, i've been blazing through summer PNRs, and this one is also the first book i've read that's hard to pick up vs. hard to put down.
it's on KU so you might as well read it, but for a book ostensibly about loki, he features in it very little. if all of this adds up to some unexpected conclusion or actually benefits the ending, i'll update, but the FMC sort of ruins the whole book, and it was so new to me to experience that that i needed to vent about it. all of that said, the first few chapters are not terrible.
ETA: i peeped some of the other reviews and i had no idea this was intended to be a RH situation? i just read two FANTASTIC RHs, and i personally am fine with CNC/dubcon. neither of those put me off this book for the record.
I have always been an advocate for Loki. He has been thought of as a villain in movies and books but he has always been a god that would have coined the phrase "hold my mead". If there was something that was said that it couldn't be done, he would find a way to do it just to prove he could. If you don't want him to find a way to do it, don't say it can't be done! A lot of this book focused on his inner demons brought on by constant outside influences. How can the prophecy that he brings Ragnarok into being not color the view of others when looking at him? Then he comes upon the mere mortal of a woman on earth and his heart swells and he kidnaps her for Yule. How much chaos can one girl make in the hearts of gods? The only thing that I was really disappointed in was that it is based on the modern day Marvel movie ideas mixed in with the mythology. But no worries. I was upset with the movie Thor for the same reason and I still really enjoyed this book.
Astrid on her way home from a office holiday party that was embarrassing for her. She really just wants to get home. She really isn't great around others and her allergies are making her miserable any way. One minute she is walking home, the next a man has kidnapped her. When Astrid wakes up, she realizes she is not home. She was kidnapped and her kidnapper is there. He tell hers she is not longer home, she is in Asgard. He is Loki, the God of Mischief. He is going to keep her for 12 days. He has plans for her. Astrid realizes that fighting is will not get her anywhere. Astrid life has changed since she got there, not only is she being attracted to Loki but to others.
This is an interesting take on Norse Mythology. There are some themes that might not make people comfortable. I didn't want to go into to much detail as not to spoil anything

I just started reading this author’s books. I absolutely loved the Academy of Olympus series. We have all been missing out on a hero descended from Hephaestus. Good choice going in that direction. I just started the Gods of Asgard series and I’m left with hope that some of the holes in book 1 will be plugged in the subsequent books. I had a difficult time liking Astrid (although the mistletoe scene was great). Since we get enough of Loki’s POV, we understand where his pain comes from and how much Astrid means to him. Astrid ends up getting angry with him very quickly after meeting the other gods and Loki immediately pushes her away. They both sort of do an about face too quickly in the story. It made it painful to wade through their interactions and all her subsequent thoughts about it. Freya and Heimdall are both great characters so I hope they pop out more in the next book.

So this is a book/series I dove into right after another RH (my then first) that helped pull me from my slump and I guess between that and my love of the MCU and Loki this kept popping up so of course I had to give it a go. I didn't read the full description just mostly sexy Loki and I was in but as I got going I was unsure if I wanted the RH or not. Getting to know Loki and his issues and insecurities it kind of made me just want to make sure he could feel the love and acceptance he needed after dealing with some of his less than stellar outbursts and the whole kidnapping thing.
Still as the book progressed I was enjoying the story and seeing how things played out. How characters interacted and the overarching theme to the story and book 1 really helped set things up for later in the series. Overall I really enjoyed the story and quickly dove into book 2.
This Erotic R.H. story is loosely based on Norse mythology. Fair warning there is dub-con/non-con intimacy after Astrid is kidnapped by Loki..but then again gods aren’t known for asking permission before taking what they want. During the time Loki has sequestered Astrid in his room as a sex slave, his personality comes out. Although he may be dominating, he is truly at odds with the prejudices of his family. As time goes by Astrid becomes more independent of Loki finding out that she is a demigod, actualizing her powers, and finding herself attracted to Loki’s brothers. I’m excited to see Loki’s next play for Astrid as the war in this family is definitely on.

First let me say that I knew there was non-con in this before I read it...I have no triggers and didn’t mind it. I actually quite liked this book and all the characters and world building. The character development for Astrid was great. I especially loved Freya and Thor! They were the best part of this book! My only complaint is that it felt like the author tried so hard to get us to like and understand Loki in the first half and then spent the second half getting us to hate him....until that final couple pages. It just seemed like what was the point in getting us to like him if you were just going to get us to dislike him again? I will read the sequel if there is one as it was a good book.
Must say that when I read the reviews I was leery but it was really good! I actually started to feel sorry for Loki at one point and Astrid started to piss me off but I think in the long run it is going to be a lot of self discovery. Astrid is finding herself and finding out who she is and discovering her powers. Loki wants to help develop those but seems to screw up and piss her off. You can see that he really does care for Astrid but he has to find a way to show her even though his family and his nature is fight against him as well as her libido. Again, interesting storyline, I liked it. Yes it had some noncon parts in the start but then it turns consensual by the end...looking forward to seeing what happens.
At the beginning of this book i actually liked the dynamic between Astrid (FMC) and Loki. Even if most of that time he acted like a bit of an idiot (and needed a slap quite honestly). As the book progressed though you begin to understand where his attitude stems from when hes basically treated like an outcast. Which makes him a loner and so unsure of himself. I actually started to feel sorry for him to constantly be compared to Thor and Heimdall. Im dying to see what happens to Loki in the next book. I really enjoyed reading this book (Loved Freya) and that ending was just knockout! A really good read
This is a modern look at Norse Mythology and one human women thrown into it but Astrid may be more then she seems and what Loki wants he gets and so do his brothers and yes the sex is suggestive in nature and may put some readers off. I do find the story interesting write now so I would read the second book before making a decision about the series. This has some mythological aspects there is mystery and Norse Gods who start out awful but I'm sure will get more likable as Astrid gives them much needed dose of there own medicine.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review
She loves three Gods. Astrid is kidnapped by Loki and taken to Asgard to be his plaything for a week or two. But once there she desires him, and the Gods realize she is part Goddess also, the daughter of Baldur. Now she has to tap into her powers for Asgard is under attack. But she is part of a prophecy that causes Loki to act jealous and mean and the day of the fight he disappears. Astrid desire two other Gods so who will she choose? Loki the trickster god kidnapped Astrid right off the street she was going to be his on Asgard for 12 days of their midwinter celebrations but Loki never had any intention of returning Astrid back to earth. Loki felt bad about having sex with Astrid like he did there was something about her he believed that Astrid wasn’t human and he couldn’t understand these feelings that he was having for her. That’s all I’m going to give it’s a fantastic start to this new series and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.
I tried getting into this novel but i can't. It's not for me. The sex scenes were so-so but the first couple was rape. As Astrid was kidnapped by Loki for 12 days and has sex with her without her consent. That what pisses me off the most. Astrid is also with boring to me and Loki is a asshole.
I DNF at 45% into the book and i won't be reading the rest of this novel or the next two books in the trilogy.
I also started this book early then what it has on the date started. I can't remember when i started it but it was early then November 27 2021
I had s hard time rating this book. I want to say a 3+ but there is no inbetween. Loli is a bit of a jerk. I can see that he will try to redeem himself, yet he is supposed to cause Ragnorak . Astrid went from frumpy allergy ridden to the savior. Um what happened to all the stuff she was allergic to that was around during the Yule? I just have mixed feelings. Will read book 2 to see if it improves.
I found this book after the author rec’d it in the rhra Facebook group with a warning of some non-con. It prepared me for jumping into my first non-con as I typically stay away from heavier tropes. I have to say I enjoyed the storytelling. The characters were raw in their hate and their passion and I found it plausible and interesting to follow their emotional and physical journey. I’m definitely keen to read the next book in the series
When Astrid is kidnapped by Loki and taken to Asgard, she has no idea that in many ways, she is going home. Her life is about to change for ever. But she does not expect to fall not only for Loki, but also for two of his brothers. When war strikes, will Asgard win against the evil that threatens to destroy them? Will Astrid survive totake her rightful place? Where ever that may be? Loved it!

Loki kidnaps Astrid on Earth (Midgard) and brings her to Asgard. He thinks of her as his, a trophy and special concubine. Astrid isn't having any of this type of thinking. Romantic and power plays ensure. Things are further complicated by his two brothers. Who is she? What is she? Why are people drawn to her? I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to another book.
OMMFG I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK AND AM SO GLAD IT WILL BE A SERIES!! That ending was absolutely crazy and fantastic. I am so glad she finally came into her power's. I really enjoyed this book, but I have a bone to pick with it. How Loki was treated & felt the need to put himself in danger just for the other God's to most likely think the worse of him.
I usually don't do reviews (I know, I know that's awful) but I just have to tell you if you're reading this and debating wether or not to give this a go. My answer to you is DOWNLOAD IT... I was not sure about it but it sucked me in from the beginning! I can't wait to see what's in store next.
This book was amazing! I love Astrid and her men but I wish her and Loki would talk like normal people sometimes haha I feel it would help alot if they could just explain how they feel without getting mad. Im hoping Loki comes back and accepts what Astrid wants *sigh* I cant wait for the next one😁
Melody Rose has done it again. Every theme she writes always makes you burst out laughing or makes your palms itch with wanting to smack a b**ch. The character building is seamless. Heimdall has always been a favorite character of mine in Norse mythology. Just love to see him in such a shining light.
