In I’m Still Here , Austin Channing Brown chronicles her experiences with race and racism as a Black woman growing up and working in white-majority spaces.
White people, Brown laments, want to believe America is a post-racial society, but nothing could be further from the truth. Open and unapologetic forms of racial discrimination may be a thing of the past, but whiteness—the ideology that white norms, values, attitudes, and behaviors are superior—still continues to victimize racial nonelites. In a series of raw and brutally honest essays, Brown shares how she has experienced racial bias and prejudice, calls out the tyranny of whiteness, and offers tips for individuals and institutions to move toward genuine racial justice and reconciliation.
