These kinds o books are hard to rate. The fall into the hard to define category of it’s OK. I doubt I’ll reread it but I’m glad I read and I’m all for reading the next in the series.

Walker is the oldest of five brothers, all SWAT brothers on the same team. He meets Nia, an owner of a mostly romance book store when she attacks a thief who stole a special sentimental necklace from one of her customers. Being a cop, he instantly apprehends the thief but is given a tough time by Nia. They get into a yelling match. Walker arrests her and from that moment he’s done like dinner.

They quickly become quite close, Walker helps her with her wayward sister but there is an innocence about Nia. Though he’s wildly attracted to her, he also knows he’s going to have to use great patience in waiting until she’s ready for more. You don’t see this that often in a romance and it was refreshing. This isn’t a closed door romance so she is ready for more when the relationship develops further. Bother Walker and Nia are likeable characters though to be honest, for me, there isn’t anything that really makes them stand out. But as I said it’s good.

Just ok

The story was alright and had some good points. I just wish certain aspects hadn’t been rushed. There were some things that were a little dragged out and the parts that I really wanted the author to expand on, weren’t. There were also some scenes that contradicted each other. In this one, it’s this and then the next one it’s that. It’s as if the author forgot what she said before. Also, the ending was super rushed.

Good story but needs editing

There were SO many grammatical errors (on almost every page) and it was distracting. I almost stopped reading in the beginning because it weirded me out that the main character was describing her sister in almost a sensual way. The author should have taken into account that she was describing a character from a sister’s point of view.
This was a cute story. The author shows promise but will not get to 4 stars without an editor.

Between 3-4, but I was left with enough of a satisfied feeling that I'll round up.

Nia (h) is a shy bookstore owner, a worrier and over thinker. She's been too busy raising her younger sister over the last decade to worry much about her own dating life. Walker (H) is her new neighbor, a SWAT team member with baggage of his own. After getting off on the wrong foot (he arrested her), will they be able to ignore the sparks flying for long?

The characters are definitely enjoyable and relatable. They are both overthinkers, in their own ways, and reluctant to open up. Walker's very patient with her disappearing into her own head and really tries to be supporting even when she's being ridiculous. And she does try to return the support - I liked that they were each trying to support the other, and could talk and tease each other too (all good signs for a healthy relationship, right?). Nia does have some extreme moments though - like the whole confrontation with Mark. Though, in that case, Bug was a little too idiotic for me, even for a 19 year old. If you're so ashamed of your relationship that you're lying to the only family you have about it, maybe you should take the hint that something's wrong? And that's not even considering the cheating or belittling or verbal abuse that you endured from this same person the last time you were dating. Why would you go back to that person, even if they were showing you that 'nice and fun' again? Can understand why Nia freaked out, after seeing all the damage that Mark did the first time round, but her actual actions still seemed a little OTT.

I was a little disappointed at their "meet-cute." I use quotes, because how cute is arresting her? And she forgave him awfully fast (which was really what I was most disappointed in). I mean, what on earth did he even arrest her for? Despite what we all sometimes wish for, being an idiot is not an arrestable offense.

Speaking of their weird meeting. How could she sprint after a grown healthy adult male in a skirt that was "form-fitting" and "down to her calves"? That's basically a hobble skirt - a style quite aptly named.

Definitely some funny moments, too, in amongst all the emotional growth. While Falcon's name is ridiculous (even for a romance H name - his story is book 2), I liked his character. The Serious Baking was just the icing on the cake (haha!). And I loved the vague references to the shenanigans that Falcon and his mom get up to. I mean, Elvis impersonators?? I guess she's a retired judge, then, because that's a lot of trouble she's getting into as a sitting judge? Still funny, just don't think too hard.

This is the second time I've read a book in the last few weeks that had a named plant owned by the heroine. Fred was a funny addition to the story, but I loved that he had actual significance to the character too (no spoiler).

Just a thought, but Nia likes much older men. She was a decade younger than the bad influence in high school (17 to his 27 - which is creepy anyways). While Walker's age isn't mentioned specifically, he refers to his mother's death as "over three decades ago." As he was 12 when the Hales took the boys in, that makes him at least 42. Nia's 27.

There were quite a number of typos, though. Missing words, lots of one letter typos, a few sentences were just a jumble. Some were outright confusing. "Pretty Poly Princess"? That one I didn't understand until Falcon used the nickname again: Pretty Polly. My favorite, though, was walking "toward a firing squid."

Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangles. The push-pull drama is understandable, and they're actually trying to work through it, not intentionally creating more of it. A touch of insta-love (despite the references to weeks passing, this all takes place between the start of fall and Halloween), but still a satisfying coming together of characters who are good for each other and enjoyable to spend time with. HEA and no cliffhangers.

Would I read more in the series? While we weren't introduced to three of the other brothers (not even their names), Falcon seems fun and squirrelly enough that it'll be interesting to see what sort of woman he falls for. Yeah, I'd give it a try, especially if another free Kindle find.

What about by this author? I've read another of her contemporary romances, and while not amazing, it was still fun. Solid, and yes, I'd read more. Haven't tried any of her SPN series yet.

I really enjoyed this book. The banter was fun and I thought the characters were original and entertaining. It could have used more spice seeing as the FMC runs a romance bookstore but that’s probably just me nitpicking. There were also a few typos so be warned if that bugs you.

Nia is a sassy bookstore owner who first encounters SWAT leader Walker while she is chasing down a mugger. Their paths cross again and they can’t deny their attraction to one another. Both have baggage and, while problems do arise in their relationship, they tackle those obstacles together.

Their honesty and patience with each other was one of the things I really appreciated about their story. They felt like they were equals. Walker was an alpha cop dude but he wasn’t overbearing and bossy. He was honestly a breath of fresh air as an MMC. He respected Nia being an individual while still acknowledging that he was there for her when she needed him.

The side characters were also interesting. I found myself smiling at both Walker and Nia’s family dynamics. Both had such loving family members that were well written. Their family members added context to their love story and helped the reader understand Walker and Nia a bit better.

This is a forced proximity, he falls first romance. I might not continue with this series but, overall, a solid read.

Everything She Needs is a fantastic contemporary romance by Lola St. Vil. Ms. St. Vil has given readers a well-written book. It is written in first person, alternating point of view though, not my favorite format. The characters are totally lovable and make this story a delight to read. Nia owns a book store and keeps an eye on her younger sister. Walker is former military and now a cop on the SWAT team for the police department. Nia and Walker's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved this book (except for the 1st person thing) from start to finish and look forward to reading more from Lola St. Vil in the future. Everything She Needs is book 1 of the Everything She Needs Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Instant attraction - slow burn romance

Out of love for her little sister and feeling grief and guilt at the death of her parents Mia spends the last thirteen years careing for the sister she affectionaly calls Bug. With no time or inclination for a social life she hasn't dated or had an interest in dating until a chance encounter with SWAT officer Walker. Mia and bug had loving parents and she is trying to maintain that. Walker and his three brothers were adopted by a loving couple who gave them love and support. They are all on Walker's SWAT team and maintain a close relationship.

Their relationship was awkward at first and I was happy when they began to share parts of their lives. Close families are one of the things I like to read about and this didn't disappoint. It was serious at times but not too heavy. I would read this author again.

2.5 Star Rating

I liked the premise and the beginning of the book. Slight push/pull that I don't feel was really believable. I wouldn't bother with someone that avoided and ignored me for weeks.

The h's avoidance by daydreaming got old after awhile, her intelligent sister getting back together with a deadbeat ex just made no sense, the H not wanting to deal/share his emotional turmoil seemed out of character and him then getting shot felt way too forced.

There was a HEA with a nice epilogue that helped me give the .5. I liked his family and loved his parents.

Worth the Read!

What a beautiful, funny, loving, and enjoyable read. Nia and Walker are hysterical together, but add in Nia's sister, Bug and Walker's mom, Mrs. Hale and the funny tears start rolling. I loved this book!! Definately two thumbs up
