“Journaling is a fundamental and clearly used biblical tool to help us retain and then properly steward what the Holy Spirit speaks to us.”

The Scribe was so insightful and helpful. I thought it was a fantastic tool to help people who would like to keep track of their daily life, spiritual journey, goals and relationships. It mentions so many important aspects of journaling I would have never thought of. It also includes tips on recording dreams and symbols with clues to how they may be interpreted by using the Bible. I read this on my kindle and will definitely be buying a physical copy. I have so many notes but I could have highlighted half the book! Would recommend for anyone wanting to gain more wisdom on journaling and how it could greatly impact your life.

The Scribe: Receiving and Retaining Revelation through Journaling by James Goll

Thank you for writing this book on the Scribe. I have never read or even known about scribes except what I read in the Bible until I read this book. I remember that Baruch was a scribe for Jeremiah. Taking what God said through the prophet to the king. There are other scribes that Jesus often dealt with in the New Testament . Thank you to you James Goll, family, and ministry.

Insightful read on journaling as a tool to grow in relationship with Jesus. And also to discern the voice of God through dreams and visions.

When picking up this read I thought it would lean a little heavier to the writing and journaling side. Journaling is promoted and named in this book as a tool, although I found this book more about hearing the voice of God and understanding dreams and visions.

On those topics I read really helpful insights, for example on:
- witnessing your spiritual alphabet
- what steps to take in discerning the voice of God
- not overcomplicating things
- examples in scripture on prophetic hearing.

Curious how these insights will integrate on my path the upcoming seasons.

This might be a more condensed book, as the writer was repeating some words in different chapters.

Journaling is a very good, if not a great, way to truly get knee deep into God's word and to gain a much better understanding of the Bible. If you get right down to it the "revelation" which Mr. Groll is speaking of is "the act of revealing or disclosing" the message of the Holy Bible. The only true way to gain a clue and understanding of the Bible is to study it and to seek clarification of those things you are unsure of. I have been journaling for some time now and "actively" studying the Bible through note taking, delving into the Matthew Henry Commentary and using books (old and new) in order to better understand the various books of the Bible. The journaling, or active notetaking, is a great way to shore up and solidify the information that you have just read. Studies have shown that people who take in-depth notes have a higher probability of remembering the information than those people who just read the information. And those people who do something with the information within a day or two of reading & notetaking will remember that same information for a much longer period of time. The more you use that information the quicker it is moved into your long-term memory. This was a very good book filled with some very worthwhile tips for journaling. Whether you are an old note taker or young in the study game of the Bible, it is well worth your while to read through this book.

More About Dream Interpretation Than Journaling

If you're into dreams, visions and the prophetic, then this book is for you. If you're looking for a book to deepen your understanding journaling, you might want to skip this book. I think God can speak any way he wants, but it has to line up with his Word. It seems that Toll wouldn't disagree, but he has a lot of caveats to this. And if you buy this in Kindle, there will be a lot of filler at the end.

Learned so much, about why I journal, and have been doing so since the age of 20. Now 54 years later I can see the reason I love writing.

A good review of basics: prophecy, and the value of journaling to increase and track what God is saying.
