Nathan's streetwise humour shines out between the shadows of his past life embedded in gritty Sydney nightlife.
We witness all shades of characters and situations through his eyes as he uses various dodgy plots and strategies to keep his clubs full of happy revellers, whilst trying to repel or placate trouble makers.
His pacy style of story telling drew me in immediately.
Glimmers of compassionate insight, juxtaposed with moments of hard to look away awfulness make it a lively and laugh out loud read.
We gasped, laughed, and almost cried, but most definitely enjoyed the mellowing and self salvation of Nathan.
I Can't wait to read the next one, and watch the movie Nathan !
Many thanks to JW for the advance copy.

For those amongst us who have asked themselves “How did I get here?”, and let’s face it, whom amongst us has not done that…Pretty Lights offers a warts and all walk in Nathan Kirk’s shoes in the unfamiliar world of nightclubs and late night venues.

A funny, salacious, sexy, titillating rollercoaster ride of a read…the same book offers the more analytical amongst us the opportunity for insight into common life issues that confront all of us…mental health, relationships, finances and more.

Make no mistake this is a hugely entertaining page turner perfect for planes, trains and poolside. The dialogue is quick, sharp and full of witty pop culture references that give Nathan a unique Gen X voice that resonates for us who are of this demographic.

Highly recommended 5 stars.

Good honest account of the other side of the nightclub industry, great fun with plenty of cringe worthy accounts of the seedy side and mentality of managing in the Nightclub industry. This book really took me back to my own days in the mid eighties working along side these guys from dusk till dawn and all the creatures that would inhabit this space, absolute hoot! do yourself a favour, you know how the rest goes.

WOW: What a read its so eye opening. Seedy and disturbing at times, but also so bloody humorous with it. This is a book you could picture yourself a fly on the wall witnessing some of these enlightening short stories. I encourage if you want to be engrossed in the what seems mad world of late night club life then give it a read. Terrific

Interesting and frank account of the club scene. A recommended read, even if a trip to the colonic irrigator is required at book’s end.

Want to relive your years of gratuitous hedonism in the nightclub scene? Take it from the guy who watched the whole thing sober; it wasn’t as great as you thought.

Nathan Kirk writes with heart, cynicism, bewilderment and a deep, pervading anxiety and guilt about a scene that exists for the young to make mistakes, the privileged a place to flaunt it, and for parochial fuckwits to pretend they’re gangsters.

This book is horrible and hilarious. Pray you can’t find yourself in it.

In a nutshell this would have to describe this scene to an absolute “T”, definitely best book I have read ever , Nathan has hit the , nail smack bang on the head with his view on the sex , drugs and rock and roll , in the totally whacked club land era .I would love to see this book as a movie it would break all box office records , hopefully this is not the last we have heard from Nathan , a credit to him well done .
