Too much power. Wow. Too much energy. Wow. Too much anticipation. WOW. It's the new memoir from the biggest star in Dr Disrespect.
Dr Disrespect is a 6-foot-8 freak of nature with a 37-inch vertical, the two-time, back-to-back 1993-94 Blockbuster Video Game Champion, and in his factual opinion, the most dominant international gaming superstar in the history of the world.
It was just a matter of time before Western civilization came begging Doc to save literature by writing a memoir that reads like a vicious, muscular lion clawing his way through the rocks, roaring in anger and dominance. Here you will find his deepest, most intimate secrets. The untold history of his mysterious, legendary origins and his rise to unparalleled dominance. And most of all, you will find out what, exactly, Doc's a doctor of.
Are you ready for a book with the rhythm of a sleazy '70s muscleman and the ruthlessness of a '90s serial killer? A journey that stares down the long, dark alley of your fears and never looks back? Does your warrior's heart yearn to reach the tippity top of the mountain just to realize you're still only halfway up?
If so, firm handshakes, Welcome to the salvation of literature.
Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, better known as Dr. Disrespect or The Doc, is an American live streamer who became known for playing battle royale games such as Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, H1Z1, and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
In June 2020, Beahm was permanently banned from Twitch for then-undisclosed reasons. He returned to streaming on YouTube a month later. In June 2024, former Twitch employees alleged his ban was due to sexting with a minor using Twitch's Whisper feature in 2017; Beahm confirmed the nature of the ban, but characterized the messages as "inappropriate". Following this, YouTube suspended him from the platform's partner program and demonetized his channel.
“Violence. Speed. Momentum.” by Dr. DisRespect is more than just a book by the Two-Time himself. This captures, in all his glory, everything you ever wanted to know about Dr. DisRespect and then some. The way it’s told captures the pure essence of the Doc to where you’ll need to sit down to truly grasp the power of every written word that’s in this captivating book of VSM.
LoL okay, all jokes aside, I genuinely enjoyed reading this book! I’ve been a proud member of the Champions Club for many years now as Dr. DisRespect is my all-time favorite streamer and it’s beyond cool to see him actually publish a book under his legendary character. I’ve easily watched hundreds, probably thousands of hours of his content and it’s the best of the best which is why if you love his streams, you definitely need to read this immediately.
I give “Violence. Speed. Momentum.” by Dr. DisRespect a 5/5 as it was a hilarious read from start to finish. Keep in mind, if you have no idea who he is or haven’t watched any of his livestreams directly from his billion-dollar Command Center, this book will make zero sense to you. However, for devoted fans of the Two-Time, it’s undoubtedly a must-read that you’ll get a good laugh out of.
Let's get this straight, this book was written for people who understand what it's like to be at the top of the mountain and only be halfway up.
It's written for the Champions Club.
Do I think it saved literature? Doc says so, so of course. I read a lot, and this was a fun one that made me feel like it was giving me a firm handshake for being a regular fan in the arena.
That being said, if you don't already know about what the two-time is about, what were you expecting?
It is at its core, absolutely the book I would expect from D-dr-D-Dis-Re-spect-spect-spect.
If you don't get that, of course you won't like it. All I have left to say to you is "YayayayayYayayayayayayaya"
It's like Cobra Kai, but for gamers. The narration was great and I appreciate him staying on brand, but it was otherwise meaningless for someone that doesn't watch his show. I hope that there will be an actual memoir.
I respect the doc for what he’s done for the gaming community but this wasn’t for me. I’m not his target demographic nor a fan as such, and I really wanted this to be an actual biography. For fans though, I’m sure they’ll have a good time.
It's one of those bruhaha books that are festivals of over the top cheesiness so extreme all you can do is laugh your ass off and shake your head in disbelief. And if the said head is proudly ordained with a mullet, even better. In such case, this book might as well be about you!
Fans of the Doc will probably enjoy it. Haters won't bother with it. Everyone else will be baffled by it. This would probably be more enjoyable in audiobook form.
If you don’t know who Dr Disrespect is, or do not appreciate him, this book is likely not for you. This is not a real biography. It’s full of jokes that will likely be missed or feel distasteful without the context. However, for any fans of the two time gaming great, this is a laugh out loud must read. I absolutely loved this book.
My partner is a gamer and this is one of the streamers he watches and I got sucked in too, so he bought me his book. This book is just Doc all over, Hilarious and with a brilliant imagination. A real easy light hearted read. While I was reading it I read it in his voice and its just a really fun read. No plot. Nothing serious. but funny. 4/5 stars.
I love Doc and that's the only reason I could make it through this book. There's only so much of his goofiness you can take...except the "tippity top of the mountain and I'm only half way up" story. That gave me chills YAYAYAYAYAYA
To me, it's rather clear that this book is primarily written for fans of DrDisrespect, myself being one who perhaps paid more for a signed edition than he should have. And, to a much lesser extent, everyone else, in particular those who like over-the-top surreal comedy in a book. For that reason I can only fairly review this book as a fan, but I'll try to point out what praise it deserves as a standalone book and what praise it gets from a fan.
DrDisrespect is a character who is larger than life and over-the-top, so of course his "biography" is gonna be larger than life and over the top. His story is full of hilariously epic achievements in life and in gaming, kick-ass action sequences, and life pro tips that are probably not good for real life but definitely have the aim to sell you non-existent Doc brand products. Much like the character, it's all for laughs. I didn't expect anything else, to be honest. That is why I think it makes a big difference whether you're a fan or not.
(I don't know why anyone would expect this to be a legitimate biography of the person behind the character, when the author is literally the fictional character itself and not the person portraying him, Guy Beahm. He doesn't exist as far as this book knows. Of course it's all gonna be BS, and of course it's all gonna be glorious.)
Of course you might try to read it if you're not a fan, but you'll probably be scratching your head at catchphrases that keep popping up and running jokes that just keep showing up. If you're not a fan but you're very desperate for a book that makes you laugh, then maybe you can enjoy this book somewhat. But be warned, a lot will go over your head if you do.
That being said, the book is flat out hilarious, and it even plays with some amusing ideas that are unique for the genre as a whole, like the fact that Doc keeps fighting his editor as he's writing the book, and that he gets "real time updates" that interrupt his story, among others. There's also a lot of 80s and 90s references to movies and video games, so not surprisingly the humor often emerges from that kind of place.
I don't often read purely comedy books, but I gotta say it was a fun and laugh-out-loud time reading this book. It certainly helped that I'm a big fan of the Doc, and this is exactly the humor that his character handles in his streams. So it's a perfect treat for DrDisrespect fans, though I can't speak for how well it will bode for non-fans. But I certainly enjoyed it from beginning to tippity top.
My husband and I listened to this together and we both agreed on our ratings.
When I started reading this and if I would have continued reading the physical copy of this book it'd be maybe a three star read but the audio version bumped this to a high four star rating. The personality and energy of Dr DisRespect reading his words in his characters persona MADE this book.
I will warn you that you will learn almost nothing from his book about him, but if you find his videos entertaining to watch then you will 100% love and get a kick of his shenanigans. He keeps true to his persona the ENTIRE book! You get little gems of insight mixed with so much of his extraness he adds to everything that it's definitely correctly labeled in the humor section. I will never look at Applebee's the same again.
This book is true to the larger than life, barely contained within this dimension persona that Dr. Disrespect has cultivated over the years of streaming. For Champions' Club members and regular viewers they will find a book that is everything they would expect from the Two Time. For average readers not drowning in the streaming culture, they will find a narrative that bounces in and out of possibly fictional accounts to live commentary on conversations going on with fictional people that create a choppy flow throughout the book. A must-read for fans of the Doctor, but a pass for anyone else, which I imagine was the entire point.
This was not what I expected at all, and that is my fault for not reading the book description fully. I was expecting an autobiography from a very mysterious man. But instead I got a bunch of laughs and enjoyment while reading.
I also realized that this is an autobiography of his character, and we probably won’t ever know more about the man behind the scenes. He is very interesting and his character is one that is so unique, we may never see one similar to his.
I would recommend reading this if you do want some laughs and a light read. It can definitely be a short read and does have some cool vocab you can pick up while reading.
Doc's book is pretty much a case of "what you see is what you get": if you have even a passing knowledge of who the Two-Time is and what he's all about, you know EXACTLY what kind of story awaits you on the pages of this book: an in-universe memoir of Doc's "humble beginnings", in other words — a classic Doc diatribe, as seen on his streams, stretched to respectable 200+ pages. Funnily enough, one can actually gleam SOME truth about the man behind the impenetrable wraparound shades if one pays close enough attention. A mercifully quick read, it's a great addition to the Two-Time superfan's collection of memorabilia, but only a marginally interesting read for the rest of us regular folks.
I am a fan of the DR although I will admit I do not listen to him that much or watch his stream however I do respect the dude.
This is not so much a book to me but more a Pod Cast show in literary form and so I am glad I purchased the Audio version of this as it would be much more entertaining than reading it.
The DR provides and engaging story and anyone who appreciates him or his style of casting would enjoy this. No more than 4 stars for me though as even though I admit he Dominated I can't go 5 stars.
Anything the Doctor touches is pure Gold!!! This Book is nothing short of a masterpiece. Could not put it down! I joined the Champions Club years ago, and I rock my Black on Black on Slate Black Blazer daily. Every morning I lather up with Vasoline from head to tippy toe and I get the Job Done!! I love my life strictly by this code: “What would Doc Do?” And I can’t be stopped! Oh baby Oh baby Oh baby!!
