This store IS a freak show. The creepy baker with the filthy fingernails and a fondness for the bogs. It wasn't his fault if every twenty years or so he needed to eat human brains to keep his own from turning to mush. The blue-eyed coworker with a mysterious wound. And those teeth… so white, so sharp. The snarky cake decorator with a twinkle in his eyes. I know you are, but what am I? The ghost hunter. The loud but lovable manager. And then there’s Cannoli Boy... When 19 year old Kellie transferred to the Yarmouth grocery store, she was looking for a new start after a bad breakup. Nick was a liar and a cheat and cute and sexy and… she needed to get him out of her head. New town. New house. New store. New friends. She had no freaking idea. Welcome to Forktados cupcakes and creatures served fresh.
Kellie Murphy's job at Forktados Groceries in Yarmouth, Cape Cod MA is definitely not paying her enough to deal with the crowds of summer tourists, not to mention ghosts, zombies, and the occasional werewolf.
This humorous, supernatural look at the, well, horrors of retail work has a great cast of characters, a bunch of unexpected plot twists, and all of the inside details on work at grocery story bakeshop. The setting is developed with plenty of local flavor, and a refreshing "townie" point-of-view on life in a tourist town.
The supernatural elements are fun, but the snarky exchanges between the characters are the real heart of this story.
A cure for Covid blues. A walk on the wild side of Yarmouth, Ma. Great fun. Mush better than present day reality. Great characters in a very real setting.
What a fun read! When Kellie Murphy starts her new job in the bakeshop of the Forktados supermarket in Yarmouth, MA, she has no idea that her coworkers include a zombie, a werewolf—and a paranormal investigator. As if the weirdos at work aren’t enough, she’s being haunted at home—by a ghost and by her ex, the cheating bastard who can still manipulate her heartstrings.
Over the course of several full moons, Kellie experiences a lot of paranormal activity in the great bogs of Yarmouth with her new love interest, Eric, the paranormal investigator.
Garulay is a gifted writer who mixes the bizarre and the mundane in totally believable ways. This is a light, fun book and a quick read—perfect for taking to the beach. And while the main story wraps up nicely, there are plenty of hints for more Forktados fun to come.
Kellie moves to a new town, which she gradually learns houses a hub of paranormal activity -- especially at her new job in the bake shop of Forktados.
The story is funny, snarky, and interesting, with lots of twists, suspense, and paranormal activity included. Oh, and there is a wild animal POV at one point which was unexpected and excellent. The characters are very well developed and absolutely stick with you.
An absolute must-read!
I received a free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Do you like ghosts? Werewolves? Zombies? You'll get all this and more in this book, just not the way you think. This book is hilarious and I loved every minute of it!
