This book is appealing for individuals from all walks of life, as it contains a variety of techniques and can apply to many different religions or spiritual beliefs. There was a time I felt a little overwhelmed with the amount of information presented in this text, however upon completing the first 3 chapters, I understood how these sounds were going to contribute to my spiritual journey throughout my lifetime. By using some form of mantras on a regular basis, you can find your own connection with energy which will ultimately help you heal both physically and mentally. Of course, it won't happen overnight because sometimes things need some time to develop into something great but with daily meditation steps that include mantras, you can achieve any goal or dream that you have.

A Deep Dive into Sanskrit and the Original Vedic Mantras

I have read several books about mantras, but I've never seen one quite like this. This book clearly comes from the author's personal study and approach to mantras that is deeply grounded in Hinduism, other Eastern philosophies, and the ancient Vedic mantras. The book has two parts. The first part looks more deeply at the history and culture of mantras and spends a fair amount of time going over ancient Sanskrit words, both meaning and pronunciation. While she espouses doing mantras in both Sanskrit and English, she conveys a deep love of the early mantras, and her desire to say them as they were done originally shines through. Thus, a fair amount of the book is given over to the Sanskrit portion. She teaches you how to pronounce some traditional Sanskrit mantras as well as providing simple Sanskrit ones she’s created. In the second section, she gets into specific mantras, given in both Sanskrit and English. The section has preparatory mantras as well as ones that focus on the emotional, relationships, and the physical. I found this book to be fascinating to dive deep into the history of the original mantras but is still something that can be “done”—no dry learning here. It's an interesting, nuanced look at another culture's approach to healing based on words, and with a little study, you can add it to your spiritual, healing practice if you desire. If you've only approached mantras from a Western perspective but want to have a deeper appreciation of what they originally were and how they were intended to be used, pick up this book, and you will be surprised at the depth and breadth of them.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Transforming one's sense of identity and perception of life is a diligent step-by-step process. I related to this woman's journey because I've had similar experiences. Her connection with everything in this book is as vital and palpable as her conveyance of the subtleties of the Sanskrit language. She displayed a healthy skepticism in her initial approach to her studies, which I could appreciate. Her descriptions of the nuances surrounding affirmations and mantras struck home with me and I loved her explanation of the Shakti mantras and how they are used to unblock the chakras, yet in keeping with everything as part of a greater whole. This book is not a walk in the park, but rather a serious study of the profound shared by an earnest and benevolent woman, which comes across loud and clear in her writing. Something universal within me was definitely stirred.

This is one of the most in depth books on Mantras that I have read. It is filled with very detailed history and information of mantras and how to apply them to your daily life. I enjoyed this book immensely.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book.

Powerful explanation of why to use mantras.

This book gave me the incentive and knowledge to use mantras. It filled in a lot of blind spots and misconceptions about the value of mantras.

If someone would have ever told me that I would use my linguistics courses from college in a book about healing mantras I would have laughed. However, trying to understand how to pronounce certain words and sounds in these mantras pulled up the need for those classes. I enjoyed that in away.

It is apparent that this author is knowledgable in what she has written. She also had great references for further study which was very much appreciated. I'm always looking for new books that expand my knowledge. However, the downside to this book, is that even though I know more than a lot of beginners, I am not an expert. Therefore, this was a lot to unpack. Had I known little to nothing, it might have been too much for me if this was my first foray into reading or learning about it. The good thing is that it not only has the references but it also gives the insight to want to learn more. That is a plus.

This book is a knowledge hub for mantras

To be very honest, I didn't expect much from the book..Author has mentioned the origin of mantras, Upanishads, about chakaras and what not..

All the important mantras of Hinduism and their meanings and significance is also provided..

Highly recommended to people who are interested in Hinduism and the leveraging the power of mantras for prosperity and abundance in life

"This is a fantastic book for those, who like me, are new to spiritualism and all that comes with it!
Healing mantras gently explains the concepts, the benefits and how to use them in your busy life. I have to say that I was very sceptical but I do use them almost everyday now and I’m calmer and more considered.
Highly recommend!"

"Healing Mantras is a book about using mantras for self-help. The author discusses the history of mantras, the use of mantras in Christianity and Hinduism, their uses in cultural practices, and how to use them for personal transformation. The book also discusses misconceptions surrounding mantra use, maintaining focus on a chant's desired outcome, why certain chants are preferred over others in specific cases, where one might find new chants to learn or create oneself if so inclined, and what types of outcomes one can expect when chanting.

Harper claims that mantras can be used to encourage healing from illness or injury; however the book only focuses on mental/emotional issues such as low self esteem (and its resulting problems), frustration, and anxiety. Harper does encourage people with physical issues to work on them if they can, but never claims that chanting a mantra will heal the problem."
