Some nuggets & perspective on why I choose to serve Him!
Page 260: “The greatest news ever read or heard is that Jesus Christ spilled his blood on a cross for our sins. This news is even more sensational because He was an innocent man who died in our place. He took our sin upon Him. The blood that He shed was the payment for our sin so that we can be in right relationship with God.”
Page 246: “If you feel unworthy, it’s because you are. But remember, Jesus Christ went up against a powerful enemy, the devil, against the most powerful weapon the enemy has, sin, and the most powerful result of sin, death, and He conquered all of them… He now offers you the opportunity, through grace, to be a part of the story… Receive My grace and be a part of the story… We were outsiders, but He made us insiders. We were disqualified, but he qualified us. We were powerless, but now we have the Holy Spirit living inside us. We had a self-absorbed story, but now our story is part of the greatest story ever told.”
Page 234: “Gratitude for grace is our motivation for doing good works. It’s God’s grace and His kindness that leads us to change. We are compelled to live a life of good works— not because we Have to, but because we Want to… This book focuses on how the habits of Jesus can become our habits, but we won’t do them to prove we’re worthy or to earn God’s love. We do them because we already have His love, and because He considers us worthy. When we fail (and we will), His grace encourages us to try again… In justification, we bring our Worst to God and receive grace. In sanctification, we want to bring our Best to God to honor the One who loves us. When we fall short, we experience God’s grace again.”
Page 268: “God’s grace isn’t made perfect through our perfection, but through our weaknesses, failures, and mistakes.”
Last October, our church did the Red Letter Challenge and I struggled a bit with it as some of the challenges were just too daunting. This one was so much more enjoyable. Five habits that we as Christians need to hone that were so very important to Jesus were: commit to community; study scripture; prioritize prayer, seek solitude, and choose church.
These are all things that make perfect and logical sense to do; however, we let life get in the way and encroach on our time with God.
This was a shock to the system to get me back to truly the basics that make a monumental difference in my life!
Grab a small group of people or even just one other person and commit to taking yourself through this study/challenge. I think it might change your habits to ones more righteous and holy.
Zach Zehnder's writing style is so easy to understand and relevant. After reading this book, I felt closer to God and motivated to have more purpose in life. I requested a free copy of the Being Challenge to be sent to my pastor. He is contemplating doing a whole-church study on it next Lent. I am going to start reading Zach's first book The Red Letter Challenge, also.
Excellent book to strengthen your walk with Christ. Light daily devotionals which build on 5 keystone habits: Community, Scripture, Prayer, Solitude and Church
These are all habits which Jesus practiced. Each day ends with a challenge which makes you think about how your life measures up or can be improved. Great food for thought.
I absolutely love this challenge so far- and trust me for me it's a challenge. You will definitely grow deeper! I thought the Red Letter Challenge was it- well ok now let's get to Being! This was so timely for me, and I know I'm not the only one who needs this right now. You won't be disappointed!
This was a more simplified version of Red Letter Challenge in that it focused only on being. It also focused on my relationship with Jesus. My church did this during Lent and this helped me focus on Lent and the season.
This comes from The Red Letter Challenge. A 40 day study that challenges you to be like Jesus. The five habits are commit to community, study scripture, prioritize prayer, seek solitude and choose church.
Zach and his team have once again created a Bible Study that can be a stand-alone growth opportunity, or it can be...and will be for us a 40 day study bringing people together in the Word. As a follow-up to his Red Letter Challenge last year, we will continue to dig deeper into the first target of RLC and discover "Being" in God. How do we develop a relationship with God, how does this make us a stronger Christian. Do you want to shoot for that target? Try this study, it will be a great experience!
