Weddings and Other Things I Hate is the third book in a series of comedic contemporary F/F romance novellas. If you like eccentric characters, fast-paced and razor-sharp wit, then you’ll love the third book in Elizabeth McGivern’s ‘Things I Hate’ series.
I’ve set out to read all 5 books of this series over the weekend. I liked parts 1 and 2, I am a bit unsure how I feel about this third one. The writing again is great. Jane and Helen are fun couple to read about, but a bit of the ridiculousness is gone. There is a more serious tone in this book, which is fine. But I think I can see the directing this is going in and I don’t know how I feel about it. This book has left me worried. Unlike the other 2 instalments, they just made me want to read on.
I am sticking with this series, and I will finish it. But I am sure hoping book 4 and 5 are more like 1 and 2.
Third installment for Jane and Helen. They've been together 8 months now and have settled into their long-distance relationship. Jane is planning her sister's hen party and prepping for her wedding.
I think my biggest issue is that this is billed as a "humorous" and "feel good" series. I don't particularly feel good after reading it. There are some funny moments, for sure, but these are really not being properly marketed.
I'm not super into contemporary romane on the best of days, but part of me regrets starting this series. I'll see it through though.
The sudden death in the book description didn't surprise me but it literally brought me to tears. Jane accomplished a goal in a way I wasn't expecting. The ending was horrible! I hope the next book clears it up.
