Insanity Plea

Rate this book
There's a little bit of James Bond and Lucy Liu in all of us. It just takes some of us longer to find them. Rae Shields is shy and attractive, and one big walking contradiction. Stoic, yet humorous, she struggles to overcome an abusive childhood and a plethora of phobias. An aversion to touch leaves her afraid she'll never experience the pleasure of sex. Believing she's insane, she creates a world where everything is ordered, disciplined, and calm. And, it works, until she meets Tyler.
Handsome and mysterious, Attorney Tyler Blazer is a well-known, widely controversial associate of the Cabani crime family. With a reputation for being aloof, he's dubbed the Ice Man. But, when he crosses paths with Rae, he's no longer the cool, dashing playboy he once was. Falling fast, he wants to stay away, but he can't. He's been ordered to kill her. His life becomes a complicated web of deceit as he tries to buy time, and keep Rae from finding out the truth.
Tired of being a victim, Rae finds her Lucy Liu in the nick of time with Tyler's love giving her the strength she needs to fight back. With him, she finds hope.

This book was really good, though I am more accustomed to longer books, for being as short as it is it packs a punch. The characters were well developed and I loved them as well as all the little fun facts that would go through Rae's mind at the most awkward times! I also loved how Rae thought she was insane and her monologue inside her brain when she thought she finally "cracked" was excellent!! I appreciated the little glimpses into her past but I wish there were more. But OMG the last 10 pages have blown my mind!! There has to be a second book because I need more!! Please give me moree!!!

Okay, I just finished reading "Insanity Plea," and I'm a little lost on what to think or write as I'm trying to wrap my head around it. It's considered a thriller/suspense/romance novel. I'd have to say 80% of the story centers on the romance/sex aspect. Speaking of sex, WOW! More erotica than BDSM. Oh, and Tyler Blaze...excuse me while I fan myself. This guy is hot! He's definitely an "alpha-male" but not like some of the other over-the-top, domineering, aggressive, arrogant, narcissistic asses you may read in other novels. His "alpha-male" I could definitely tolerate and enjoy.

As much as I enjoyed the novel, there were just a couple of issues I had with it. Firstly, I thought there was too many minute details written in scenes of no real importance. For example: she opened the door, took off her shoes, walked to the kitchen, opened the fridge, grabbed a water bottle, closed the fridge, opened the bottle, drank the water, walked to bathroom, put toothpaste on her toothbrush, rinsed her mouth, etc., etc., etc. I don't know about others but I find it too redundant and could do without. Secondly, OMG!!! I thought I was going to scream the number of times Rae called her genitalia "my kitten." Who says that? She must have said it like 20 times! WTF? To be honest, I've never come across that in any other novel I've read.

In the end, I still give it four stars as I thought it was a really interesting story with an ending I didn't see coming.
