Hime and Mitsuki finally open up to one another about the deep insecurities they share in their friendship. When closure for the two seems close, Mitsuki leans in to share a kiss with her crush, but Hime is caught by surprise and more confused than ever before. As a result, Hime begins to distance herself from the café, leaving a firey Kanoko and a despondent Mitsuki in her wake. The once sweet sanctuary of Liebe drowns in bitterness... The wait was well worth it with this volume. This series continues to show how vital communication is in relationships, whether they be work, romantic, or platonic. Hime's facade has really come back to bite her in the ass after Yano's confession, and now her and the other Liebe staff are trying to cope as well as play damage control.

I honestly really liked how everyone's flaws were on display during this whole dramafest, as weird as that is to say. Hanako's selfishness and jealousy, Sumika's constant desire to interfere in order to keep the status quo, Yano's straightforward attitude, and Mai's passiveness. All of these flaws shine, but also kind of help in the long run. Weird, I know, but it's true. The artwork/ art style was on point as usual and the paneling and use of shadows in certain scenes really amped up the drama/ emotional moments.

I had a lot of fun with this volume and am still eating up the drama. I'm curious to see how this situation is going to be resolved and how many hearts are going to be broken in the end.

The long wait was worth it. Serious story development here!

Last volume, we had Mitsuki confess her love to Hime, and kiss her. While still putting up a steel facade, Hime has gone into a panic. She wanted to have something special between her and Mitsuke, but doesn't have romantic feelings for her (or does she...?). So, not wanting to hurt Mitsuki further, Hime decides to quit the cafe, because, as it is later revealed, she can't bear to see her cherished Mitsuki hurt and crying. The other girls, especially Kanoko and Sumika pair up to try and get Hime and Mitsuki to resolve things, and to try and convince Hime not to quit. Kanoko sees herself as Hime's special friend, and secretly harbors a crush for her. Meanwhile, it seems Sumika is holding a candle for Kanoko. At the end of the volume, events have been arranged to get Hime and Mitsuki together alone, so they can talk things out. Both girls cry a lot, and when Hime finally rejects Mitsuki, it causes Mtsuki to bawl greatly and bury her face in Hime's lap. Hime tries to comfort her, but is herself devestated that she has so badly hurt her dear friend. Mitsuki tries to convince Hime to not quit, as she can't bear to lose Hime for a second time. The volume draws close ending with Hime alone, outside on the stairs, sobbing. She's just rejected the most important person who's ever been in her life, and it's killing her. So things are left undecided in regards to Hime quitting. The volume closes with Kanoko and Sumika talking, and Sumika finally starting to come to terms with how she truly feels about Kanoko. So yeah. Lots of drama and raw emotions in this volume. I eagerly await the next volume, hoping it doesn't take another 6 months to arrive! Personally, I hope Hime comes to terms about how she truly feels about Mitsuki, and why she keeps trying to lock up her heart and run away from matters of love. I'd also really like it if Konoko and Sumika were to get together as a couple. They mesh well and compliment each other (as do Hime and Mitsuki).

No bomb explodes without causing damage and leaving behind an unfortunate amount of fallout. After Mitsuki came clean about her crush on Hime and shared a kiss with said crush… Hime quits the cafe and threatens its entire dynamic. When her entire identity is threatened, just how far will Hime go to maintain it?

The danger to having a facade, particularly one that just desires to be all things to all people all the time, is that eventually you’re fooling everybody and that includes yourself, as Hime hasn’t exactly learned yet, but sure is experiencing through most of this volume.

Despite her protestations and a very brutal conversation with Miyuki, there’s clearly a lot of introspection that Hime isn’t doing, even as she draws what is the most obvious conclusion, which might not be the true one. I’m just saying, there are a lot of hints, including the “throb heard ‘round the manga”, that her heart knows her better than she knows herself.

There are a lot of raw moments in this one, honestly. Poor Miyuki goes through the shredder more than a season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Besides Hime’s ‘response’ to her confession basically being, “I quit my job”, she has to deal with Kanoko figuring out something went wrong and that Miyuki is at the source.

Whether she’s mad at Miyuki for confessing or herself for never having the courage to try being more than a “special friend”, Kanoko is positively incendiary during her one on one with Miyuki. It doesn’t help when Miyuki throws fat on the fire by proving that Kanoko’s special status isn’t as special as she might have thought.

It’s a lot to take in - this volume is high dialogue and lots of feelings. Everybody gets hurt, basically. There are some really nice touches with the art - I love the illustrations at the school which suggest that Kanoko is slowly drifting outside of Hime’s inner circle.

At its core, this has been the story of a girl who doesn’t want to be anything except popular and the utter futility of that idea. As we see here, once she has friends who know her real self her only recourse (in her mind) is to push them all away, leaving her the most popular loneliest girl in the world.

A far cry from any of the series’ ostensive comedy beats, that’s for sure. Although the manager has a great scene where she completely dismantles Hime’s nonsense during an exit interview. It’s a very, very talky volume, sometimes to its detriment if you want faster plot progression, but mostly I was loving every minute of it.

And that bonus manga sure throws fuel on the fire that a Sumika and Kanoko pairing is in the offing. Which is fine by me; the gyaru x nerd pairing is one I can get behind and the casual chemistry between them, which it seems Kanoko hasn’t even noticed, is really good.

4.5 stars, and you can adjust down if you don’t like lots of talking. For my part, I found it engrossing. I actually read this book twice for my review, which I hardly ever do, just to take it all in. There’s a lot to digest here and it’s all worthwhile.

the confession…

…is one of the most confusing situations. It is hard to understand and follow the thought process. Hime did not feel like she could reciprocate Yano’s feelings/confession. I get it. She likes Yano as a friend. In the platonic way. However, Yano “likes” Hime. Hime asked her to be honest and she was. It cost them a friendship anyway. But I have a feeling that Hime doesn’t quite understand her feelings for Yano. She should have told her right away that her feelings are unrequited. Hime told everyone else right away. But she ran from confronting Yano after the big reveal. Either Hime will realize her like as well, is actually more than friendship or they will find a way to be friends again. Hime kind of gave off mixed messages. Unless, it is true that Yano doesn’t really know or understand Hime since they keep having these moments of miscommunication that really costs them.

I got a humble bundle of queer manga and it had 14 volumes of this manga. I ended up binge reading 9 of them last night and this is going to be a review of the 9 as a whole because it's too hard to remember where one ends and another begins. I haven't read a lot of yuri manga (webtoon is a different story) and I've only read one other class S series (though I didn't know it at the time and learned what that is with this series) but I like this one so far. It's super cute. I like that the characters are flawed. There's angst and comedy and a delicious slow burn. It's basically Ouran High School Host Club but make it sapphic.
