Freddie Bonbon is THE BEST baker in Belville and although life is busy, he always has time to lend a hand and solve his friends' problems! In this third story in the series Freddie's best friend Amira is excited to be dancing in the Summer Show - but disaster strikes when her partner Samuel gets injured. Luckily Freddie is happy to try and combat his nerves and learn the steps. But as the big day arrives, rival Bernard - ever ready to step in if Freddie changes his mind - is waiting in the wings with some naughty tricks up his sleeve. Watch out Freddie!
*3.5 stars rounded up. In book #3 of this children's chapter book series featuring Freddie Bonbon, the amazing young baker of Belville, the town is having a Summer Talent Show. Freddie's assistant, Amira, is planning to do a dance routine with her friend, Samuel, but during practice he sprains his ankle. Could Freddie fill in for him, even though he gets terrible stage fright? Amira has some ideas to help him but once again, Bernard Macaroon, Freddie's rival baker, is up to his nasty tricks. Cute story about not having to be perfect to enjoy yourself. The recipe included with this episode is for Freddie's Doughnut Muffins.
This was another cute one. As with the 2nd one, this one isn't really focused around food or the bakery, but its always in the background and still fills a foodie need. In this one, Freddie's assistant Amira is going to enter the town talent show dancing with her friend, but he twists his ankle (Thanks to Bernard and his up to no good cat Otto) and Freddie has to step in. Its about facing your fears and being a good friend. Cute moral.
This is a fun addition to the Freddie collection of stories.
Loved Amira at the center of the story and how she helps Freddie with his stage fright. I enjoyed how everyone came together to help and dance!
Bernard is a fun villain but also a confusing one at times. He has this big crush on Amira that doesn't really do anything for the story. He is a jerk to most people except Amira. Luckily Amira sees this and isn't interested. But I'm not sure why that detail is included. This is a children's book so I think the crush is a bit old for the audience. Also Bernard never has a consequence or punishment for his actions. He tries to make things fall apart for Freddie but never gets punished. I just would like a clearer lesson there.
Overall, a fun series! We enjoy these books!

My six-year-old and I have recently completed the books in the Freddie's Amazing Bakery series and this one is just as good as the rest! Freddie, amazing baker and even better friend, decides to face his stage fright and help out his good friend and coworker, Amira, in the talent show. Bernard, as always, is right there to throw a wrench in the works. Previously it was discovered that Bernard has quite a crush on Amira and the illustrations of Bernard with hearts in his eyes as he gazed at her were adorably hilarious. These early chapter books have been wonderful to read out loud with an easy-to-follow storyline, great characters, cute illustrations, and happy endings. Each book also contains a map of the town, a glossary, and recipes - which we can't wait to try!
I'm a big Harriet Whitehorn fan... and a big fan of baked goods, so this was sure to be a winner. And it was like joy in a book! Freddie is a baker extraordinaire, but with the local talent show coming up and a friend in need, can Freddie overcome stage fright and a certain meddling person to help out? Gorgeous illustrations and a fabulous story to go with it! Now where do I get some doughnuts??
This third installment of Freddy's Amazing Bakery was all about being a good friend and overcoming stage fright. Freddy steps in to help Amira when Samuel gets hurt before the town talent show, but he's really suffering from stage fright. Amira helps him overcome this in a super sweet way.
Overall, really enjoying these stories. They are definitely good for sensitive readers and listeners and my tiny chef is very excited to try some of the recipes that each book has in the back.
