As a knight of Valoria, Henrik isn’t afraid of anything—except maybe one fiery princess
Henrik is one of the king’s elite, known for being deadly with a sword. And for flirting with every girl in the Valorian court.
Well, every girl but one. As Prince Kincaid's oldest friend, Henrik can get away with a lot. But there are some lines he can't cross. Even if Princess Lavinia is now far from the childish girl he remembers.
Then the attractive and altogether confusing Lady Claudette arrives from Thorania, and Henrik has never been more unsure of his own heart.
But trouble is brewing in Valoria, from bandit attacks to betrayal within the royal family. No one else seems to realize the scope of the threat, and Henrik can’t afford to be distracted by his heart. Not if he’s going to protect the kingdom he loves from total disaster.
Downfall’s Echo is a companion story of The Kyona Chronicles.
Deborah Grace White was more or less born reading. She grew up on a wide range of books, from classic literature to light-hearted romps. Her love of fantasy was inevitable from the time her father read the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy to her and her siblings when she was four years old.
The love of reading has traveled with her unchanged across multiple continents, and carried her from her own childhood all the way to having children of her own.
But if reading is like looking through a window into a magical and beautiful world, beginning to write her own stories was like discovering she could open that window and climb right out into fantasyland.
Now she gets to live that childhood dream amidst the fun and chaos of life with her husband and their four kids.
Henrik, viscount’s 3rd son, is best friend of Prince Kinkaid. He’s close to yet feels a bit apart from Kinkaid’s family, including the irrepressible Princess Lavinia. A stranger arrives causing confusion and chaos in the royal family. Surely, danger follows and Henrik and Kinkaid must uncover the mystery. I enjoyed the writing and its a good story but maybe not quite up to the level of books 1&2. The MCs were strong, likable and consistent. Although intentionally done, seems a bit doubtful that they wouldn’t figure out what’s gone wrong (magically) sooner. The fun balances it out. Overall, it was an enjoyable book that I’d recommend!
Chapter 1 - Jocelyn has a baby!!!!!! Chapter 2- Lady Claudette was using magic to make Henrik think she was beautiful, but when Joss arrived she stopped so Joss wouldn't notice. She doesn't actually know Cody and Yasmin. WAIT CODY HAS A DAUGHTER?!?! She is going to be spectacular in literally every way of fighting. Guaranteed. Also she has to marry Norik. Chapter 14- Ok. So Lady Claudette is using magic to now make Crown Prince Ormond like her. She has something do do with the raids and her guard Feivel is directly involved. That's why Henrik senses something off with him. And the attack on Lady Claudette was staged. Joss could see straight through her if she wasn't so sick. She's more sick than when having Norik because she's gonna have twins. Or triplets. Norik has some sort of magic that allows him to see straight through things. Such as seeing his mom was sick before Kincaid did. Princess Lavinia is amazing. Norik's cute. Lady Brielle is perfect for Ormond but the idiot can't see it and hurts her by focusing his attention on Lady Claudette. And Henrik has so much information if he could just realize it all points to the fact that Lady Claudette is using magic and is also evil. Ok I'm done. For now.

Exciting, mysterious, and playful. Downfall’s Echo follows Henrik and Lavinia as they investigate some strange happenings in the kingdom and try navigate their own hearts. Can they overcome their fun loving reputations and be considered seriously when it counts? This book is full of humor, mystery, great sibling dynamics, and clean romance. Lavinia has been a beloved character from the beginning of the series and her and Henrik’s story does not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. Downfall’s Echo is the third book in a series that will make most sense when read in order. The series is a a sequel series to an earlier series that adds context to the events but does not need to be read to enjoy this series. The romance is clean and the fighting scenes are creatively written and not gory. This is a great conclusion to the series that will delight fans.
I have loved the entire series, and Downfall's Echo was no exception. While written from the knight Henrik's point of view, I loved seeing the grown up Lavinia, and meeting Joss and Kincaid's son Norik. It reminded me of Jonan's story, with the heroics and political balancing act of being close with royalty but not royal. It was a fun perspective and I enjoyed it!
Loved this third installment of the series as a quick and fun way to wrap it all up! A sweet story of growth and determination and trusting your instincts, but also that our words and actions affect us and others around us. Can’t wait to see more of the extended world!
If you’ve enjoyed the Kyona Chronicles as much as I have, this one won’t disappoint. Lovable characters, quick plots, and a wonderful foreshadowing of the next series!
What more can I say about Deborah Grace White’s writing than I have in previous reviews? Well, probably that I am looking forward to her next series while discovering anything I haven’t yet read! Keep up the good work,I was lucky to have discovered your books!
Contains: kisses and some violence. I really didn’t see the point of this book. I guess it introduces Noric who is on the next series but other than that I don’t know what this story adds to the world as a whole.
There is something exciting and yet sad about the final book of a series, especially one that has more than three books. Knowing that this is the last you will hear about the characters…
I have come to the conclusion that there is an art to writing a good ending. Wrapping up plot details without making it appear to be a list of resolutions is something some authors seem to have difficulty with. In Downfall’s Echo, Deborah Grace White has beautifully tied up the loose ends of the Kyonia Chronicles, not only for this story but also for the entire series.
Having met Henrik in Legacy of the Curse, I couldn’t help but admire him and hope to learn more of his story. So I was excited to discover that Downfall’s Echo is all about him. Yay!
More than simply a knight of the realm, Henrik is also the best friend of the younger prince and as such, has more access to the castle and the royal family than most. And yet even that privilege has its limits. The Queen has made it clear that she merely tolerates him.
When whispers of mystery and danger to the kingdom begin to sound in the palace and throughout the capital city, Henrik can’t help but do everything in his power to ensure the safety of the royal family and the kingdom.
There are many things to love about Henrik. His impetuousness is one. And his extreme devotion to the kingdom. What I loved the most, however, was his humility. He never presumed to be more than the youngest son of a viscount and never expected more from the prince than friendship. Even when circumstances were against him and everyone seemed to have turned their backs on him, his first thoughts and instincts were of serving and protecting!
The pace of Downfall’s Echo begins a little more slowly than the others in the series, most of which start out with a bang. There is more court intrigue and relationship building at the onset but don’t worry, the action comes and when it does, it is long enough and described so clearly that you won’t be lost and unable to figure out what is happening, even amid the flashing of the swords and the pounding of horses’ hoofs!
If you have yet to read any of the Kyonia Chronicles, you will want to read them all in order. While technically each one could stand alone and has a clear and satisfying ending, each builds on the previous and you will miss some of the things that are going on.
Lovers of adventure fantasy – young adults and older – will not want to miss this satisfying series!
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
