Meet Solomon Stone. Loner turned shadow agent. After the success of his first mission, Stone receives his to collect a woman whose husband is on the run. Stone's first task is to get Jessica Hannant to safety before assassins track her down. How much she knows about her husband's identity modification business is unclear - a highly profitable operation causing havoc around the globe. Currently hiding away in the Zagori mountains, Peter Hannant thinks he's safe in his Greek compound, but he hasn't come across anyone like Solomon a ghost about to pay him a visit...
Oliver Stone is a force to be reckoned with - as is his cohort, Ariel Drummer - and his targets had better know the meaning of determination and delivery. The stealth with which Stone acquires his target and transports him to his boss, George Ingram, raises goose pimples. Peter Hannant uses sophisticated encryption within his IT company to offer a product, identity modification, with great appeal to powerful individuals with few morals. Stone must insinuate himself into Hannant's guarded hideaway in a Greek island and return him to Ingram for interrogation and rendition. First, he must move Jessica Hannant to safety - she had no involvement in the crime. Stone becomes a target in the process - the hitman designated to take out Hannant fails and the contract is changed. Stone has to stay alive to prevent a coup d'etat connected with Hannant's illegal activites. E.G. Ellory delivers a subtle burner, not quite in the style of George Smiley and John le Carre, but with similar mounting tension and understated menace. Some more 'meat' on the characters will make all the difference, but a thriller writer to watch and enjoy.
My journey alongside the ghost walking of Solomon Stone continues as this off grid, shadow agent here tackles his second mission. Repeat appearances for his handler George Ingram and the effervescent and enchanting colleague, Ariel Drummer.
More drama, passages of high tension and a sense of an imminent threat. Stone extracts people in danger, compromised individuals who have information that needs recovering and often justice to face rather than a quick death. Those secrets often reveal further players at large, ready to undermine governments and commit acts of terrorism.
Stone and Drummer are not blunt instruments in the dark arts but they perform sanctions and killings that cannot be traced to the U.K. government. They are spectres that are deniable and as coined in ‘Mission Impossible’ would be disavowed.
So not an original idea in this genre but presented in a fresh and realistic fashion. The writing is succinct and the characters are developing into a winning team with interesting relationships implied and often not detailed beyond a shared look or common rhythm.
I enjoyed the various locations, the detailed engagements and the spotlight on spy craft through observation.
Lots to like and more to enjoy as a third short story awaits.
A great second novel in the Solomon Stone Thriller series. Mr Ellory gets into the heart of his character Solomon Stone. Stones attention to detail, his precision, he's been trained to analyze the situation blend in and get in and get out. "Skilled in the art of dismantling." as Mr. Ellory puts it. I don't feel Stone is a coldhearted killer but he is very mental, always watching. Stone also does rescue missions beside killing, depends on the job and sometimes both in the same job. The book comes off almost matter-of-fact like, except for the emotional victim/perp Peter Hannant. Ariel Drummer a femme fatale in a black dress and red heels, is another great character, she works with Stone. She knows her guns, how to use them and how to drive. This is a fun fast pace read and the dialogue and discriptions are wonderful. E.G. Ellory's second book is a page turner with great characters reminessent for me of the TV series "Persons of Interest" with Jim Caviezel as John Reese. A great second book to his Solomon Stone series. I was given a copy of the book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I love Solomon Stone as he is like an upper-class operative. This book is not so much about dismantling a marks life but about skilful and silent kills and escapes. Keeps you enthralled as gets quite intense in the hunt. If you love this Genre than you will definitely need to read this book. The more I read the more I loved the mindset of the Author as he has quite a way with dialogue and gives you great insight into the thought process of Solomon Stone. I will read every book that will ever be written in this series.
Solomon Stone is a 'fixer'. Highly trained to get in, do the job and get out. Hopefully with little, or no, collateral damage. Should things so south, he's on his own. No agency will claim him. He is a ghost.
I received a free copy of Killing Call through BookFunnel and have chosen to leave a review.
The Ghost is back!! As he makes his way to complete the mission that few operators can, an assassin just as capable as he is, is on his trail. Few can live this life. Few want this life. The Ghost lives for it, at least for as long as he can.
A good continuation in the series. Interesting twists on the witness protection style relocation. One legal the remainder not so. Stone and his sometimes partner have to sort out the mess with aid from the boss George. Great characters, locations, and situations.
You never know what to expect when you open a book. This book is a action packed and fast moving storyline. You start out running and just keep going. Who, what, why and how? The question is yours. This book is a great addition to the Stone series. Keep your eyes open for this author I see a great future. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
