Leander Vanslow has a family problem: his vampire siblings covet both his blood and his brain. They’re building an army and they want the highly intelligent vampire children Leander can create.
But Leander has no interest in spreading hate. He’s already distanced himself and his resources from his toxic family, but the pressure from them is building. He needs someone to protect him—and not just anyone will do.
He wants a strong, powerful werewolf warrior. In return, Leander has promised the leader of the local pack a cure to an immune disease affecting their children. The fact that the werewolf he chose as protector is young and childish is a minor issue—or so Leander thinks.
Takoda Billie has spent the last few years strolling through life and avoiding the responsibilities that come with his blood, so when his father, the leader of their pack, assigns him the job of protecting a vampire, he’s angry. No, he’s pissed.
That is until he locks eyes with a creature who moves like wind and talks like he’s a hundred years old. Takoda’s caregiving instincts take over, and he finds himself invested in Leander’s safety for more reasons than duty.
But with children getting sicker and Leander’s family hot on their heels, will Takoda manage to step into his role as leader, keep his pack safe, and protect the stiff-backed vampire who’s stolen his heart?
This is a 84,000 word NON-MPREG, NON-Omegaverse paranormal romance between a very old vampire and his young, fresh werewolf lover. Leander and Takoda’s story is a simmering, slow-burn romance featuring two men who are forced to work together even though they’re opposites in every way.
Jules Monroe is a POC author who loves writing about things that go bump in the night. They like exploring the "what-ifs" associated with paranormal and supernatural and developing unique lore.
But for real, they just like writing about growly werewolf boys, prim and proper vampires, and any other types of shifters and supernaturals that strike their fancy.
If you're reading a Jules Monroe book, expect slow-burn, sensual romance between unique, diverse characters.
3and 1/2 stars. I loved the writing, and I enjoyed the story. I’m just not into vampires. Their just too cold and aloof. And although I made an exception with Lestat in Anne Rice’s books, I’ve never really warmed up to another vampire. For me, he was the exception. I hated the vampires of Twilight. In fact, I abandoned the series after the second book.
I was really appalled when they casually gave up sex for a year. Leander didn’t even seem to mind. I have to say even though I love a slow burn and don’t care if the sex is off page, but if there is no sex it’s a turn off. I want my main characters to be sexually active.
I want to read more books by Jules Monroe. I just hope we can have something without vampires. If you like vampire vs werewolf stories, I highly recommend this book. It’s well written and an exciting story.
There’s too much going on, but most of that seems to be happening off page. At some point, Takoda stopped hating Leander and everyone is commenting on how in love and how happy they make each other, just out of the blue. But Takoda is also still calling Leander “the creature”.
This story had a different take on the Vampire/Werewolf dynamic and I really liked that. I loved the MCs, especially Leander, but some parts of the story moved a bit too slowly for me. I am looking forward to the next instalment in this series though.
TAGS -- Vampire -- Werewolf -- drama -- opposites attract -- different take on the Vamp/Wolf story -- some sweet moments -- some parts irritated me -- moved a bit slow in some places -- I think there is unfinished business -- loved the MCs... Leander & Takoda -- little to no sex on page-- looking forward to the next instalment
I only got to 17%. This is the WORST pseudo scientific book I have ever read. I know its fiction and that the author does not know about diseases and such. But fuck. It was so bad. Did not make any sense at all. Why did they think it was a virus even though there is no indication for it ??? Just because it lasts long. WHAT ? THEY NEVER EVEN TESTED IF IT WAS ONE. Just assumptions. Then, without knowing anything about the apparent "virus" he develops a new antiretroviral??? That is not POSSIBLE. This infuriates me so much. Like I can see that the author at least tried to inform them selves but the result is just so much worse than if they had just slapped the word quantum on it or just didn't specify it anymore. Or maybe ask an Expert. Just terrible.
**First Time Reader**I'm glad I took a chance and read this lovely story. Werewolves and Vampires as allies. Who knew it can happen but it did in this story. With Leander the ancient but handsome vampire needing protection with the promise of aid for a cure to the werewolves, the alliance began rocky. Takoda the young werewolf and up and coming leader to the pack has been chosen as bodyguard. Leander and Takoda had an awkward relationship in the beginning. Takoda came into the working agreement with a lot of mistrust and wrong beliefs about vampires. Once he got to know and be around Leander, he began to care for the vampire and Leander began to let down his guard some and rely on the werewolf. This is totally an opposites attract because these two are nothing alike. I loved their banter with each other...Leander so old, prim and proper while Takoda has the humor and personality of a frat jock....good entertainment. Their relationship was a slow burn with a lot of kisses, caresses, sensual love scenes and no graphic sex scenes. The guys had a very nice HEA...a lovely m/m paranormal romance.

I really enjoyed reviewing Protected By the Werewolf by Jules Monroe. The difference between this romance as opposed to other paranormal romances is that this is a story about a vampire needing the help and protection from area werewolf. The werewolves hate the vampires because of their past histories thru time. Leander, a scientist who happens to be a vampire, is being haunted for his blood by his family. His blood holds special magical properties and it will make other vampires stronger. He seeks the protection from the area werewolves in exchange for finding a cure for a disease that is killing the young children of the werewolves. Takoda is assigned the job of protecting Leander continuously, hating him at first, then falling in love with the vampire. The story has some thrilling events, blood shed, sex between men in love, and happy ever after. This is the first book of the Werewolf Protectors Series and I am looking forward to reading many more.
I found the idea intriguing as a different play on the werewolf/vampire dynamic. The story was slow, which I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but I found some narrative missing. The intimate scenes were alluded to in conversation, but not on the page. I actually thought they were NOT having sex, just maybe some kissing, until one of them mentioned a slightly BDSM sex act and surprised the heck out of me. I even went back to see if I missed something. I don’t need to have the sex act played out in living color, but I literally thought they were just roommates. I didn’t feel the attraction between them. I liked both of the characters. I liked the idea behind the story. I liked the flow, but I constantly felt that I was missing the progression of their relationship.

The world building of werewolves and vampires in this modern setting was so cool to me. I loved the whole we're different creatures and not supposed to be together but of course we're gonna do it anyway vibes the two of them gave off. Also, I've never read a book with such a rich Indigenous background and that was one of my favorite parts of this book is seeing their traditions and how close their community was. Leander was a unique perspective on a vampire because eventhough he is older he still held an innocence about him. He went through so much throughout his life and I loved how Takoda really was there for him and honestly vis versa. Takoda was definitely the sunshine in the relationship and I loved how he was playful but stepped up when responsibility called. Their romance was great and I could really see that the two of them complimented one another.
Leander was the typical scientist, absent mind when concentrating on his studies. He had an innocence about him that I absolutely adored, and the biggest heart. Takoda was everything you can imagine an overexcited puppy to be, lol, playful and with a sunny personality... also the perfect caregiver, protector for Leander and leader for his pack. They were amazing individually, and as couple, I liked the way they influenced each other, how they took care of one another.
It was sweet and entertaining to watch them together. Also, I was glued to the pages curious to see whether or not they'd find a cure for the mysterious disease, or if Leander's family would get their hands on him.
All in all, this is an intriguing, cute story. Recommended.
***spoiler alert*** Leander the son of Dracula was running from his family because they wanted his blood to make more like he was. The werewolf pack gave him sanctuary and protection, he would work on their virus problem that affects the little girls. They agreed he finally got the antidote and saved two little girls. When it was Takoda’s turn to guard him they clicked but tried to ignore it until they couldn’t. But some of Takoda’s cousins didn’t want him there but the rest of the pack accepted him because he saved the girls lives. Finally they were mated after the problem they had with his family.
Thank you for staying far from the MPreg omega verse
I can't stand when these stories get out of controlled as such. I liked Takoda and Leander but I was not crazy about how weak you made Leander. I mean he is a vampire and he should have the strength of one. He is too cold and and he doesn't really warm up even when he is in love. It makes it hard to believe he is in love. This doesn't make them a good match or one you want to keep reading about. He is a good man but we want warmth and heat between our lovers. I also do understand a very human like virus infected a werewolf with a too human cure.
Werewolves and Vampires as natural enemies? Not a new concept. But Jules Monroe offers a fresh viewpoint. The Wolves live on Tribal Lands, while the Vamps seem to be city dwellers. Leander is a professor and researcher of bloodborn illnesses. There's a virus killing the daughters of the Wolves; weakening them slowly. Leander's research might just hold the key. But earning the Wolves' trust isn't easy. Then Takoda, son of the leader, is assigned as Leander's protection. As their story unfolds, it moves from enemies who lust for each other to mates who accept each other. Interesting. Not a real quick read. But it held my attention and I'm halfway through book two.
I quite enjoyed reading this intriguing paranormal romance with a different view on a werewolf/vampire relationship. The plot is quite intriguing with a slow-burn undertone with no graphic sexual intimacy. The characters have realistic flaws & are from different species but have good chemistry between them. There is: vampires, werewolves, family issues, drama, intrigue, suspense, deceit, betrayal, torture, devious plans, threats, conflict, some violence, suspicions, attractions, verbal conflict, diseases, antidotes, mates & a satisfying conclusion
I hate leaving bad reviews, but this one was a waste of my time. As another reviewer noted, there's a lot missing. Broken timeline, not on purpose, and one of the dumbest vampire characters in the history of literature. There was no emotional connection between the two MCs, and too much is told rather than shown. After an eye-rolling moment of sheer stupidity, I started seriously skimming the text, and I didn't miss much, if anything. Hard pass, and I won't read the others in the series.
Protected By The WereWolf tells an alien intimacy within a polarised world. Leander and Takoda's love story is an exasperating journey of romance, acceptance and protection. The abstract setting ( of place and time); and characterisation makes the book more inclusive and relatable to diverse groups of people.

I liked Protected By The Werewolf by Jules Monroe. It had good flow, an interesting storyline, and opposites attract main characters. It was an enemy to lovers opposites attract story and so it was a little hard to tell when Leander and Takoda went from roommates to lovers. There wasn't a lot of on-page sex so it was hard to tell. I did like how much personal growth Takoda had in the story, going from an immature bodyguard to Leander to growing up and taking over leadership of the werewolf pack. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This was a good start for this series. I truly enjoyed the characters, but they argued a little too much for me. Lee was a little too stiff and Koda was a little too immature at times. But the storyline/plot was really intriguing and kept me reading.
Enjoyed this story, with its different take on vampire/werewolf relationship. Liked the characters and the instead of coldness, I found Leander very innocent. Takoda was fun and sexy as he grew into the man that Leander needed. It did move a bit slow, but I did enjoy reading it.
I liked the story and the characters but the pacing and/or length just didn't do it for me. At times I was just ready for it to end because it felt like it had gone on forever with nothing happening.
But! Yesterday was a super crappy day, so that may have colored my enjoyment.
A good read with plenty of feels and romance. The only thing is I felt the finale took quite some time to get rolling and I would’ve liked a little more action. Still, romance between werewolves and vampires is always welcome and it was handled well here.
I really enjoyed this story it was so different from your typical vampire and werewolf story. It had a little of everything that made it such a good read.
Ancient and coldblooded, yet oddly innocent. Hotblooded, with the innocence of rambunctious youth. A blending of old ways and new, meeting for the age old battle against illness, battling against both prejudice and customs, the utmost nerd&jock in a supernatural setting. This is the story of individuals, separate from the story of their individual peoples, yet bound to their backgrounds by their needs and others' fears. Gradual world building without pedantic lectures, meticulous character development through quirks and interaction, excellent plotline. Slightly rushed final chapter/epilogue.

Can I give this negative stars? I can see why this is self-published, it would never make it past an editor's desk. What a mess! There are parts where whole chunks of the story are missing, the author just didn't include them. Sloppy writing, tissue paper characters, no depth, no emotional pull, cringe-worthy dialogue, lots of fake science pretending to be real that could have been with even a simple google search.
I should have read the reviews and maybe I wouldn't have picked up this idiotic drivel. This is one of the stupidest books I've read. The dialogue is truly terrible, horrid really. The pacing sucks. The "love" story isn't much, we don't get to see the building of a relationship, seriously it's skipped over the two main guys go from bearly tolerating each other into an intimate relationship inbetween pages we don't get to see, also no real sexy times either, those get skipped too except for 1 hand job. There is zero character growth, the werewolf is a kid from beginning to end, the only development he gets is going from hating the vamp to patronizing and infantilizing him. The vampire is clueless and just blah throughout.
A five-year-old werewolf (okay he's 20 something but he acts, behaves, and sometimes speaks like he's five) is ordered by his father/pack alpha to guard (he's shit at this job) a weak ass vampire (seriously the only thing that makes this guy a vampire is that he lives off blood and is a couple of centuries old). Werewolves and vampires are enemies but because the vampires used to keep werewolves as slaves once upon a time (hello plot that's been used a million times since Underworld was released). Werewolves suffer some kind of disease that is killing them off (who knows for how long, how or why, the author can't explain because they made up some bullshit that they gloss over because they clearly failed science) The vampire is a scientist that agrees to help them for protection because his own kind wants to eat him because he's so old he's full of power (hahahaha what a joke, he isn't) so they strike a deal. (Why don't the werewolves have scientists of their own? Never explained.)
The main werewolf can tell that the vampire is his mate (how does that work between different enemy species? Who knows we aren't told) and begins to torment him (because if you like someone you bully them like the old myth of pulling the pigtails of the girl you like so she will like you...) They have zero chemistry, their interests, personalities, and even intelligence levels don't match. They make zero sense as a couple. Any relationship buildup is skipped. The sex is null.
The author clearly flunked science class since the science here is pure crap (would it kill you to do even 5 minutes of research on Google?). It's a throw everything at the wall to make it stick and sound impressive but anyone with any kind of decent grasp of science will cringe. Speaking of cringing, the dialogue, it's truely horrible. I've said it already and I'll say it again because it's true.
The last third of the book is just a mess, zero editing or fucks were given by the author. Seriously there are whole chunks of scenes, information, and dialogue missing that should be there to make a cohesive narrative. There are whole paragraphs or pages that don't make any sense because there are parts missing. I think the author had a deadline and just rushed through what should have taken a few days in a few hours with a sleep-deprived brain.
This book was clearly a money grab for the PNR crowd without actually caring if it was a readable story. I have no idea what the others in this series are like and I could care less, you couldn't pay me to touch them.
